Sounds like the Donald is pulling out, because he just can't take the vicious insults jokes that have been coming his way since he started inching towards a presidential run: Trump says public scorn greater than he expected (http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/World/2011/05/11/18134966.html).

Real estate magnate Donald Trump suggested Wednesday it’s not much fun flirting with the idea of running for president in the face of relentless attacks and ridicule.

“Nobody said it was going to be easy, but I had no idea I would get hammered in the way I’ve been hammered the past few weeks,” Trump said in Nashua, New Hampshire.
...
Trump referred to the Sept. 30 White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, during which Obama and comedian Seth Myers mocked the tycoon mercilessly while Trump sat in the audience, stone-faced.

Even Republicans have been taking shots, he noted.

Being in the media can be tough, but the White House Correspondents Dinner? Who doesn't love a roast? :D

His poll numbers have been collapsing. I hope we won't have to deal with him in the rest of the primaries.

Especially in retrospect, when the President was joshing Trump about choosing whether to fire Meatloaf or Gary Busey, and ended up firing Busey. Obama's comment: "You know, those are the kind of decisions that would keep me up at night."

This from the man who had given the "go" order on the bin Laden hit, and knew it was going down in the next day or so.

I was going to start a thread asking "what excuse will Trump use for not running for President?". I don't think he ever intended to really run, but he's talked about it enough now that he'll have to come up with some half-assed reason why he isn't taking the plunge.

Looks like "Seth Meyers made fun of my hair" might be the excuse he chooses.

Donald Rump quit faster than Palin. Seems the Repubs want to dish out criticism but can not take it themselves.
The opponents weren't saying nice things to me. Wahhhhh

Thus showing how out of touch he is with the real world. No-one who paid the slightest attention could have been in any such doubt. Good riddance; imagine what he would have been like as president when the Chinese or Taliban came a-callin' ? Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, you're being unfaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaair to me!

Mind you Obama's put up with more of this in any given week of his presidency than the Trumplet has in his lifetime.

Wait... he's honestly complaining about getting eaten at the White House Correspondent's dinner? That's practically what it's MADE for.

I'd be surprised to hear that anyone didn't expect this at some point. He never had any intention to run. Didn't NBC just renew his show for next season?

The joke is on us. Trump knew exactly what he was doing. Look, he's in the news every single day. Free promotion. Mission accomplished.

Absolutely. And our fine news media went right along with his plan, as they have all along. Sometime in the 80s his REAL line of business became about keeping the Trump name in the headlines (so then he can charge more for things with the Trump name on them).

Bullshit. If he expected adoration and is disappointed to find out nobody takes him seriously, good, but I expect he got just what he wanted out of this: the publicity that comes with running for president without any of the hard work like coming up with a platform or making any serious decisions. It's not just that he was never going to run; he was never a serious candidate and by the end he was not even trying - that thing about gay marriage and newfangled putters? Come on. He was clearly not making an effort because he'd realized the news would cover any idiotic thing he said. He should never have received a fraction of the airtime he received. And none of this would have been possible if NBC han't kept quiet about his Apprentice contract. They kept the status of the show quiet because if they'd been open about it, everybody would have understood he had no intention to leave the show and was just doing this to feed his ego and perhaps his ratings. To that end, it looks like he failed. He's shameless, but just about everyone else involved with this disgraced themselves.

I'd like to credit this to Seth Meyers and his nice work at the correspondents' dinner, but the truth is that the bin Laden killing made it impossible for the press to pretend it could take Trump seriously. I was talking about this with somebody recently and compared Trump's "candidacy" to the Chandra Levy story after September 11th. (Not to belittle her murder, but the salacious Gary Condit side of things, at least, is comparable.) There was just no way for major news programs to spend time every day on the killing of Osama bin Laden and everything that went with it, and then transition to coverage of Trump saying Obama wasn't born in the U.S. or that his college grades were bad. So to that end, this is one of the minor benefits of Obama authorizing the bin Laden raid.

Clinton dealt with it, and won. Trump is obviously not ready for prime time, from a political perspective.

So did the ratings for The Apprentice actually go up after the Donald started making presidential bid noises?

“I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and ultimately, the general election,” Trump said in a statement.

Well at least he's humble about it.

He was never going to really run. Obama making fun of him may have moved up the point where he bailed, but the real candidates are starting to actually officially declare (or declare they're not running), so I don't think he would've stayed in much longer in anycase.

But... but... but... wasn't Trump the tough guy who was going to make all the OPEC countries cut their prices in half just by giving them one withering look of scorn?

And he can't take a few jokes about his hair?

He's accusing the President's mother of committing fraud and the President of lying to cover up the fraud and then he gets his feelings hurt when people make fun of him.

What amazed me was watching a panel of reasonably intelligent-looking people last week who were asked what they thought of Trump and if they would vote for him. A shocking number expressed admiration for the man and for his business acumen.

I think Trump's business advice has been discredited by most every respected analyst. His companies' numerous bankruptcies speak to that fact. He's sold his name to a number of projects that failed and apparently feels no remorse that those willing to invest in his name lost huge. He's a marketer, nothing more, and yet there are those that would trust our very country to this classless flim flam man.

I frequently despair over the rationales driving much of our voting public. This is one more example where that distrust is probably well-deserved.

Yeah, this is the the thing that get me. Even if you take him at his word about the bankruptcies, it's a business tactic he uses to screw over his creditors and leave his investors hanging in the breeze.

And then there's all the talk about how the US should literally plunder any country that we send troops into, not to mention simply threaten every other country into submission. At least he's smart enough not to say exactly what he'll threaten them with.

One of the reasons some people figured Trump would never run is that he would have had to disclose a lot of information about his net worth. I read he promised last month that he would do that, and of course, he didn't. He is very rich but probably not nearly as rich as people think, and his primary skill is certainly marketing himself.

Shocker: billionaire finds out that earning the respect of people who aren't on your payroll is more difficult than expected.

Obviously, the American people just don't understand how successful and classy the Donald really is.
