I'm from California. It's pretty clear that California does great film, but not so much that the rest of the world's film culture can safely be ignored. But our porn? Best stuff in the world by far.

What is Iowa best at? Getting along. People just seem to do it. There is an unusually low level of tension in the air for a state that is not composed entirely of white fundamentalist Christians (athough we've sure got our share).

What Iowa is worst at is probably instrumental music. It's become something that exists mostly to have high school competitions. Most Iowans would no sooner keep playing an instrument after graduation than keep playing football, and their tastes in the arts reflect that even if they're culture vultures.
