There's been rioting in Belfast (http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News/Belfast-Riots-Ulster-Volunteer-Force-Blamed-For-Violence-And-Firing-At-Police/Article/201106316015751?lpos=UK_News_Top_Stories_Header_4&lid=ARTICLE_16015751_Belfast_Riots%3A_Ulster_Volunteer_Force_Blamed_For_Violence_And_Firing_At_Polic e). This time instigated by loyalists. I hope Irishgirl, Pushkin et al don't live in East Belfast!

I've seen it said in the news coverage of this that in recent weeks there have been a number of "attacks" on the loyalist areas there. Assuming this is true, why haven't we heard about this before? (That's pretty much a rhetorical question, though.)
At least people are having meetings now. I've been bothered about this area for quite some time as I fear the consequences of loyalist disengagement there with the mainstream political process.

Who started the riot seems to be in dispute-there are "conflicting accounts".

And the debate is...?
I added it to another thread about on-going violence in NI but it has been separated out from that zombie thread, hence the lack of context.

According to the BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-13910940):
Police have said the violence was orchestrated by the UVF and both loyalists and republicans had fired shots during the unrest.

This thread is a continuation of the recurring zombie, Terrorist murders in N.Ireland Why? (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=509810)
The theme has been consistent, but it has gotten confusing to see multiple separate events discussed over the course of two plus years.

I don't thanks... any more. I'm glad I moved out of the East, for unrelated reasons, two or three months ago :) All I saw of the sheenanigans were two riot control vehicles leaving the city on Monday night.
The rest of the city is peaceful. Dropping off my daughter at her Mum's place, the only hijinks going on were the bonfires being erected.
