MetroPCS Blackberry Curve 8530

Excellent condition, used for only three months before I switched to Sprint. It has the original manual, CD for the desktop software, USB data cable with wall charger, and best of all -- an Otterbox Commuter series case. That alone cost me thirty bucks (and an Otterbox is worth every penny; they make the best protective cases on the market.)

I'm not sure if you can take a MetroPCS Blackberry and flash it to another carrier while retaining the data/Internet capabilities. But if you're already with MetroPCS and want a Blackberry Curve, this one's all set to go. I paid $300 for it but mostly I'm looking to sell it cheaply to someone who really wants a "smart phone" but can't afford it. The monthly cost from MetroPCS for the Blackberry is a flat $60 for unlimited calls, texts, and data with no throttling after reaching a certain threshold. At least that's how it used to be.

I'm asking seventy-five bucks for the whole thing, including my beloved Otterbox case. Or -- I'll take fifty bucks and something cool you have that would be worth twenty bucks to me. Use your imagination.

What kind of network does it use? GSM? CDMA? Is it 3G? Is it unlocked?

It is not unlocked, and MetroPCS runs on the CDMA network. It's 3G in areas where MetroPCS runs 3G (which at this point is pretty much anywhere it services.) I know that the 8530 is sold by other providers, Sprint being one of them, but I have no idea if unlocking it will allow it to be fully functional on another provider's network. I would have rooted if if I was smart enough, but alas, I'm not, so it's now pretty much just like it was when I took it out of the box.

Okay, thanks. I'm sorry to say that I can't use it because my network, Fido in Canada, is GSM. The CDMA providers in Canada, who are mostly the original Bell networks in each province, are migrating away from CDMA, having implemented a GSM-family 3G network overlay just before the 2010 Winter Olympics. I don't expect them to turn off their CDMA networks for quite some time, as US roamers can still use it, but I don't know whether they're still selling new CDMA phones.
