As of today, August 9th, you have a nice easy path to British Citizenship (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/bad-timing-as-london-riots-220922) - well, as long as you have won an Oscar, or an Emmy, or a Golden Globe or a BAFTRA award...or at least been nominated recently.
OK, line forms to the left (of course).

You know, I have a real snarky comment to make involving U.S. immigration problems and this factoid, but I am going to lie down now...

Finally, at least now my five Oscars are actually useful.

BAFTRA award? That must be one really rare award. Never heard of it.
Yeah, I can see all those American Emmy winners moving to the UK for tax purposes. Right.

To quote Bill Hicks: I love the weather here - you have it.
And the weather. Don't forget the weather.
Well, that and the haute cuisine.

Okay, an Oscar, an Emmy, or a BAFTA I can see. But a Golden Globe? They'll give those to anybody.

Heh. While I -- and apparently, everyone else -- didn't much like Hollywood Homicide, I did chuckle at Josh Hartnett's character pretending to helplessly cower in abject fear before overpowering the bad guy du jour, at which point he gloats that his performance was worth at least a Golden Globe.
Thing is, I was already counting on what we now know: Hartnett -- who had to deliver that self-congratulatory line while acting alongside guys who've in fact brought home the hardware -- obviously wasn't getting so much a nomination for said role or for anything he's done since, because even the Golden Globes draw the line somewhere.

once more my nobel prize in physics, 100-meter sprint olympic gold medal, and two terms as prime minister have proven useless.

The article mentions Hollywood and various American actors. But is it limited to just American actors? Or could someone like Roberto Benigni or Marion Cotillard take advantage of it if they wished?

The article's title (and this thread's) is misleading—all that's being offered here is a work permit. The same rules for citizenship apply to these people as to all other work permit holders.
