According to WikiAnswers (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_was_John_Quincy_Adams_alligator%27s_name), it was named Gerald McGuiness the 2nd. Does that ring a bell?

The serious answer is it probably had no name.

The alligator (http://books.google.com/books?id=LIADAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA368&dq=alligator+lafayette+%22john+quincy+adams%22&hl=en&ei=Ef11TtiCEYGEtgf9kPy-DA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CDkQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q&f=false)(more than one) actually were among gifts given to the Marquis Lafayette when he stayed at the White House. They utilized the East Room to house the gifts.
