Do I have a way of looking up how many times I've been warned?
I don't even know if I ever have been... I'm just wondering.

Click on your screen name to view your public profile. In your user CP, if you've ever received any warnings, there will be a tab that says "Infractions." This will list any warnings you've received since the automatic warning system was instituted in, IIRC, 2009. Older warnings don't appear there.

If you've been warned, there's an extra tab(only you and the mods can see) in your profile.

Okay, thanks--don't know why I didn't see that.
On a related note, I was wondering if there is a procedure in place around here for a timespan-specified voluntary banning.

The mods have granted sabbaticals in the past, as I recall. I think it's the sort of thing that's enough of a hassle for them that you had better be damn sure you mean it, and ask very nicely over email.

Since it's voluntary, we'll lift it any time you ask. Alternately, you can just exercise self-control and refrain, n'est-ce pas? :)

I was reminded that I would not receive a discount for my time off (as I am a Charter Member), but I didn't expect that I would.
They did not update my status, so I still showed up as Charter Member.
Frylock, if you do choose to go away for a while, please come back.

Yes, we're happy to do it, and it's not a hassle -- just a matter of going into the secret mod workshop and clicking a couple of buttons. Only ask if you're sure you want it -- I don't think we'd be equally cheerful about reversing it in a couple of days if you got over a temporary snit.

Are warnings prior to that still in effect? Or have the expired under a 'statute of limitations'?

They won't carry as much weight because they're older. If someone misbehaves and had a warning in 2005, we're not likely to give it the same consideration if the warning was last week. These matters are always discussed; we never make these decisions lightly or based solely on a mere tote of infractions.

What if I want to know if I've ever received any official praise? Would there be a tab that says "Kudos"?

Yup. And everyone but you has one. ;)
Well, almost everyone.
I don't understand why someone needs a sabbatical. As C K Dexter Haven points out you could just not post for a while if you think you're going to be incendiary. Could someone explain this to me? (Seriously. No snark. I don't get it.)

Some people prefer an external locus of control. For instance, a person who has heavy work or school obligations might ask for a sabbatical, to prevent backsliding when he or she is supposed to be doing something more important (sic).
Thank you.
If I ask really nicely, can you set a bit somewhere to make me exercise?

So people who have received an official warning have an extra tab that people who haven't never see. Or maybe I'm just not looking in the right place. Should I commit an infraction to get a warning to make sure I can find the tab that says I've been warned?
If so, what would be the best thing to do to get a warning? Insult a mod? Another poster? Deliberately violate the two-click rule? Forget pie?

Yes, if you have not received a warning since the infraction system went active, you will not see a tab for that. It's a feature.

If that was a feature here the Dope would never have money problems!

You don't have any, so you're not missing it.

:D
I tried nine different ways to get to the kudos tab and all I got was one that said Sudoku.

I tried nine different ways to get to the kudos tab and all I got was one that said Sudoku.Well, it had to be renamed for legal reasons. In the beginning it was called the "Kudos tab", until the "cease and desist" letter for the Mars candy company. It was renamed the "Attaboy tab", until a certain dog food company had a hissy fit. It was then called the "Gold Star tab", and it turned out that there was a chain of exercise centers with that name. Currently, I believe The Powers That Be are trying to decide between the "Plays Well With Others tab" and the "Ain't Screwed Up...Yet tab".

I post on another board that has the subscribed user privilege of banning oneself for an allotted time. I've used it occasionally when I was uberbusy. :)
