View Full Version : Ann Arbor Holiday Dopefest, Anyone?

Michigan Dopers, Sr. Olives and I are coming home for the holidays. I'm pretty much booked through Christmas but after that I have some wiggle room until January. Anybody want to stir up some trouble between the 26th and the 31st?

I propose we do a restaurant-like thing since I obviously don't have a place to host a party (but I totally would if I could!)

cmyk is obligated to come this time, or I'm pressing charges. None of that ''I have to woooork,'' crap. We all know that nobody in Michigan is employed.

Ha. I will be there, dammit!

Heck, I'll even be back visiting during those days. I might try and swing by if possible.

Or is that supposed to be "scaredy cat".

I'll stick with fraidy cat.

We will keep an eye on this thread - we wil be in town for the holiday visiting Tom Scud's siblings, spouses, and adorable 3-year-old niece, heading home on the 28th sometime. Specific plans are still up in the air, though, so don't plan around us.

Tracyfish and i are, predictably, in with this. To my knowledge, the only thing we have is dinner at her aunt's on the 26th.

Tracyfish and I are completely open, except the 26th.

The 29th or 30th perhaps?

The 29th or 30th perhaps?. Either of these works. Let's say 30th?

Queen Tonya
12-18-2011, 07:35 PM
30th works for us too. Anyone got ideas for where?

cmyk

The Cinnabon in the airport?

Okay, I have a request. We could scope out some killer middle eastern food in Dearborn. The middle eastern food out here cannot even compare. We're deprived.

Anyone have any recommendations?

There's a restaurant on Michigan Ave, about two blocks west on the other side of the street from the Arab American museum....I can't remember what it's called but I have been there twice and it's excellent.

Just so you guys know, I eat my hummus with a ladle.

Oddly, our favorite mid-eastern place is in Inkster, not Dearborn, but we're always up for fattoush and tabbouleh.

I wonder if you're talking about a place near Schaefer on Mi Ave called Pineland? They were phenomenal the couple of times we went there, but wound up closing mysteriously. :(

Seems like it had a more traditional Arabic-sounding name but perhaps that's it? I was last there in January or February of this year.

I don't have my heart set on Dearborn. Just delicious Middle Eastern food.

Amani's.

Al-Ameer on Warren Road (there's one in Dearborn Heights on Beech) is really good too. I've heard great things about Palm Palace, and there's one in Ann Arbor.

Not picky here either, I just love Middle Eastern food - 26th and 27th are out for me, but the other dates would work.

I like New Yasmeen on Warren Ave. it's more of a bakery/deli, but the food is great.

Time? 6pm maybe? Or is that too early?

Queen Tonya

We can do 6, no problem.

chiroptera

Tad early for me (I'm working and it's a 90-minute drive) but I can make it, or close enough for government work. :)

We're flexible, let's do 7 instead.

So, Amani's (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=amanis+dearborn&ll=42.334248,-83.177576&spn=0.032613,0.051413&client=tablet-skyfire&hq=amanis&hnear=Dearborn,+Wayne,+Michigan&t=m&z=14&vpsrc=6&iwloc=A) in Dearborn, 7:00p tomorrow?

Anyone showing say, "Aye."

Anyone who can't say, "Argh!"

For me: "Aye."

Youuuu're supposed to say, "Argh!"

Hey olives, is D coming along as well, or just your eye?

cmyk
12-30-2011, 01:55 PM
Also, to anyone on the fence about coming tonight. Really, lay down thine apprehensions. I was there once. Walked into a room full of strangers, all looking at me; they looked smarter, funnier, and even more like actual humans than I. I couldn't have been more righter. But besides that, they were friendly and *sniff*, I may have made some life-long friends, and learned forever how not to do an Al Pacino impression.

So come. Really. The only one that bites is LOUNE, and Tracyfish keeps him on a short leash—with sequins.

We've also been known to play some really geeky board games and drink good beer.

Waitasec...

Well, ayes for us, but you all knew that already.

cmyk is going to the Amani's Kitchen restaurant on Warren and the rest of us will be merry making at the Amani's Lebanese restaurant and laughing at him? :dubious:

I mean, I'm cool with that and all, just askin'.

cmyk

I can see what you post here!

There will be an unmarked black van pulling up to your house to spirit you away. Do not resist, it'll only make it worse.

Oh, and bring muffins!

I had a paint colour emergency at a client's house and although I expected this to be a short work day, I didn't get home until after 5 pm.

Amanis. I am so jealous.

So glad your phone can finally do something that a lot of other phones have done for a while. Super helpful, there.

Although both systems suck in a crowded restaurant for sure.

Both the iPhone and Android suck equally bad in different areas, but only relatively speaking in general. Any device that can look up monkies on the internet by voice command alone may as well be magical alien technology from the future, and we should all bow to it; like the druids.
