I'm torn between Wendy's chili and Nathan's fries. The chili is cheap, tasty and filling. The fries at Nathan's are thicker than your usual stick cut fries and have a nicer ratio of crust to interior. Nathan's used to have a pleasantly tomatoey Manhattan clam chowder on the menu but I haven't seen it in years unfortunately.

If I had to pick one item, I would say McDonald's Chicken McNuggets. No other Nuggets either from a restaurant or frozen taste like them and I will cheat a bit and also include McDonald's Sweet and Sour sauce. I love that stuff so much I wish they bottled it.

Those are really good. My daughter's a committed vegetarian but oh my does she make an exception for chicken mcnuggets. We grabbed a 20 piece last night as a snack along with some fries. I think she ate fifteen of them.

Taco Bell's beef burrito. I don't indulge often but the taste is perfect when I'm in the mood for trash food.

A&W Double Teen Burger (I think a strictly Canadian thing, nowadays...I know A&W Canada and the original are no longer connected, and I think only A&WC brought back the Burger Family...yer loss!).

The texture of the patties is unique among fast food burgers, making them second only to homemade.

I like those sausage mcmuffins when I'm around one of those places. I can go all fucking day on a couple of those and a cup of coffee. Also cheers to the above mentioner of Taco Bell -- I like those little soft tacos with beef or whatever in them. Those two items are tied for favorite I guess.

The 7-layer burritos at Taco Bell kick ass. I can usually remember all 7 layers off the top of my head. Here goes: lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, rice, and refried beans.

My friends and I refer to the Oporto burger range (http://www.oporto.com.au/menu/http://www.oporto.com.au/menu/) as the default fast food choice. When you can't decide what you want have an Oporto burger, usually a Bondi with chili sauce.

For small chain - Hamburger, hold the tomato (because they use 1/2" thick slices!), extra onions from The Hat (http://thehat.com/menu.htm).

Regional chain - the basic taco from Del Taco.

National chain - like Wargamer, the basic Chick-Fil-A sandwich, customized to my liking.

See, that would have made my list but for the fact that I have refused to set foot in an Arby's since they dumped their regular fries for those gawd-awful curly fries. That corporate decision made me give up their food forever.

It used to be the original Jack in the Box Chicken Supreme Sandwich. It has morphed into something different that's not as good. These days my fave is Togo's Turkey Bacon Club on sourdough (with a scoop of avocado, please).

As soon as I read the OP's title, I knew it had to be Wendy's Chili.

For a complete meal, I spoon it over a plain baked potato. Ideally, a small will have 3 hot sauce packets and two pepper packets stirred in. If I'm feeling particularly naughty, I'll squeeze a bit on sour cream onto every third or fourth bite.

Toss up between Burger King Original Chicken Sandwich and the McDonalds Filet-O-Fish (the only bad thing about it is that it is too damned small, I want a double sized option. Same fish/bread/cheese/tartar sauce ratio, just bigger)

That corporate decision made me give up their food forever.Admittedly, I haven't ordered fries in an Arby's since I started Weight Watchers a couple of years ago, but the Arby's locations in Dallas offer your choice of curly fries, regular fries, or potato cakes (like big triangular tater tots).

McDonald's fries. Runner-up: the Quarter Pounder with Cheese when they get it right (which they sadly often don't these days.)

Second runner-up: Chipotle burrito.

It used to be a Wendy's cheeseburger, plain. I'd put salt on it. But they changed everything. They're all dried out now, and our closest Wendy's closed down.

Now it would be back to the Big Mac. Not exactly good, but I know exactly what I'm getting. Since I'm just getting fast food anyway, I'll go with consistency.

What the .... ?!?!

Rally's Chicken tender strips with garlic-parmesan sauce. OMG sooooo good, and sooooo bad for you. Deep fried strips of chicken slathered with garlic-parmesan butter. I would be happy to eat them every day, and if I am executed in the future for anything, I believe that will be my last meal request.

Best breakfast? McDonald's steak, egg & cheese bagel, with grilled onions. Mmmmm.

I was crushed when I went into McD's last week and realized they no longer have bacon and egg McGriddles. Early morning road trip and I was really looking forward to treating myself.

For burgers - I love Harvey's veggie burger with everything on it. Throw in a side of poutine and I'm in fast food heaven.

In-N-Out cheeseburger and fries. Preferably eaten on a road trip to Southern California, somehow it's not the same if I have one here in Vegas. Recently, on a trip to San Diego, we stopped by In-N-Out and it was the best meal I've had in a long, long time.

In Vegas, my pick is Rubio's fish tacos. Mmmmm!!

Here's one from out of left field: Jack in the Box Teriaki Chicken Bowl. A bit pricy considering how simple it is, but one of the few fast food items that seems at least marginally healthy. Their little egg rolls are pretty good as well.

Otherwise, Big Mac. As traditional as it comes.

When I was an ESL teacher in China, I ate a lot of Pizza Hut, but that's only 'cuz it's mad fancy over there. My favorite treat was McDonald's, because it was the only place in town you could get a drink that was really, really cold. For this reason, I would say that my favorite fast-food treat is the most ubiquitous of them - the Big Mac.

But skip the fries. If you're too hungry for one hamburger, just order a second one.

Edit: I also ate a lot of pizza hut because they delivered, and they were the only delivery service that had English-speaking dispatchers. Otherwise I'd have to puzzle through a Chinese menu and push my imagination to the limit to figure out what a Five Treasure Chicken Sandwich might be.

National chain - Chik-Fil-A sandwich

Local-- the Pork barbecue sandwich, from the Bar-B-Cutie. $4.91 gets me a sandwich (good sandwich), a baked potato/bbq beans/fries (choice), and a soda/sweet tea.

Near-sit down service & fast food speed!

Tough one. Going international, a Thuringer Rostbratwurst with mustard on a ridiculously undersized bun, like this (http://www.maclement.de/hp/wurst1.jpg), may just be the most perfect sausage I've ever eaten. I first had one in a town square in Erfurt, and ever since that has become the bratwurst by which I judge all bratwursts. (And, yes, I understand different regions have different bratwurst traditions, in terms of ingredients and preparation method, but that is by far my favorite.)

In the US? I think I'd have to go with a plain ol' In-N-Out cheeseburger.

Best breakfast? McDonald's steak, egg & cheese bagel, with grilled onions. Mmmmm.

This gets my vote. I order it without the egg so that I'm not distracted from the onions and that lovely artery-clogging sauce.

Arby's mozzerella sticks. A full week's supply of both fat and sodium, and I have to go through their drive-thru first, then around the corner to McDonald's for a coke; but sometimes I still can't resist.

For smaller regional chains - Zaxby's chicken strips. This is seriously the best of the best fast food - but unfortunately not available in my area. Just had some last week during a Christmas trip down South. Yummmmmmmmm.
