View Full Version : Brick House - A Silly Games MMP

So, it's an early MMP (for those of us in the official MMP time zone, AKA Eastern Standard Time :) ).
Went for a walk with my brother and nephew, who brought his iPod along and was broadcasting songs for our listening pleasure (kinda like a teeny-tiny boom box).
Eventually, he made it to Brick House (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5EmnQp3V48) and we decided to make up a game where we pointed at brick houses every time the song says "brick house." Each house can only be pointed out by one person. There are quite a few brick houses in my neighborhood, so there were almost enough houses for everyone.
Later in the walk, we decided to play this without the song in the background.
We found it quite entertaining.
I'm sure we're not the first to come up with this game, but it was fun to make rules up on the fly.
My question for those who don't choose to hijack the thread immediately:
Do you have family games that you consider your own? What are they and how did they come about?
Happy almost Monday! And happy Monday to those in later time zones!
Hugs.

2nd! Woot two!
We played a game called the alphabet game. You find words on signs and billboards that start with A, B, C... for hard letters you can use license plates, in any position. You can use car names too. The Nissan Quest was particularly coveted.

Good Mornin' Y'all! Up and caffienatin'. *YAWN* 'Tis 54 Amurrkin out and foggy. Today's high shall be 74. A mild Winter's day here in south Jawja.
gt that sounds like fun! We didn't have any silly family games. My folks had five kids, so makin' it anywhere without killin' one or two of 'em was considered to be a successful trip. :D Plus, we kids had to fulfill our kidly obligations of irritatin' the snot outta each other so who had time for games!
Now I must seek out more caffiene and some brekkie for rumbly tummy. Then, alas, irk purtification must commence.
Happy Monday Y'all!

Good morning! Last week at home before the big trip...
swampy, your comment in the last MMP about expecting a bday check rang true with me. My MIL sends $35 checks for each birthday. It's been $35 for at least the 28 years I've been married to her firstborn. I really wish she would quit, but I know it'd hurt her feelings if I made such a request, and it really is presumptuous to make that kind of request. Life has its weird moments, yanno?
As to the OP, I don't recall any games in my fambly, but I had some weird friends in college who had a rather annoying one. They had a Honda of some sort - I think they called it their Millennium Honda - and every time they saw another Honda on the road, first one to see it would say "beep" in a rather nasal voice. Where we lived, there were LOTS of Hondas. I really hated riding with them...
Not sure what the day holds. One of my first chores is to call the vet... :( We'll figure out the day as we go along, I guess.
FCD has declared he never wants to retire. He's absolutely bored out of his mind being home to recuperate, and today, it's just 4 weeks since the surgery. I know part of it is that he's restricted in his activities, but I'm pretty sure he also misses the challenges and social aspects of work. Frankly, I'll be glad when he goes back - sometimes I just want to be by myself and that's hard with him underfoot all the time. :p
Happy Monday!

SpazFamily didn't really have any family games that I can recall. We had family poems and family songs. The poems were mainly my mom's and the songs were mostly New Christy Minstrels. "The Cat Came Back" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgUA3TtyVF8) was quite popular for a while.
Today I need to go by the Sprint store to find out why the speaker and microphone on my phone no longer work. I'll probably end up getting a new phone. Again. This is the second phone of this type I've had in about a year. (Dead pixels on the first one). Culinary Boy has the exact same phone I do and he's never had any problems. I'm death on cell phones, I guess.

And speaking of New Christy Minstrels, I work on the east side of this mountain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85jxrb7i7dE). Tunnel Road actually goes through Beaucatcher Mountain.

Family games -- My sister and I, being the rotten kids we were, used to play 'Slug-A-Bug'. The point of the the game was to be the first to spot a VW Beetle, then belt the other on the shoulder as hard as you could. Mom would put a stop to it when our respective upper arms started turning purple.

Many years ago when outlet malls were really popular we'd often find ourselves in an outlet that sold socks because there's a certain kind that my mom always looked for. My dad and I would always find "P.S. Socks" and then the silliness would begin. We would try to think of how many different things that P.S. could stand for. This would go on for hours and drive my mother crazy. :p

My kids play "French Fry", but I don't know why. They wave at other cars and if someone in the car waves back, they yell "French Fry!" and fight over who the wave belongs to try to claim a point.

We didn't have any kid games growing up. My dad owned a construction company so summer was his busy season and we didn't take vacations as a family. We did have a cottage about 2 hours away and that was in the days of no speed limit and no seat belts. My mother would be barreling along at 85 mph and had my sister (who was about 15) lighting her cigarettes. We had no time for car games since we were too busy being scared!
I have developed a bizarre red rash behind my knees and on my abdomen. It kinda itches but not bad. Of course my doctor's office doesn't open til noon. I hope it's just a stress rash and not some bizarre disease like 5th Disease.

Howdy from irk. We have a new receptionist today. I am watchin'/monitorin' her on the phone and beginnin' to show her the ins/outs/wonders of the IMS. She hasn't run out the door screamin' so I take it she'll fit right in here. Yep, this is what I'm mainly doin' today. Fun, huh?

Try Cruex or an equivalent first. I suspect tinea, which is Athlete's Foot/Jock Itch fungus, based on your brief description. $9 a can for Cruex is still cheaper than a MD co-pay...

We played a kind of "Telephone-On-Paper" sort of. Each of us would draw an ordinary object and pass the paper to the left. We'd add something silly to the paper in front of us and pass that one to the left and so on. I think that was my favorite family created game.
We also played Canasta, Parchesi, and Monopoly.

I remember two variations on license plate games during car trips of my single-digit-age years:
- finding each letter of the alphabet, in order, on the plates around you
and
- making words out of the plate directly in front of you, the idea being to compete who could come up with the longest word
The first was more of a time-waster than anything else, but the latter had the potential for actual competition. Also set the ol' neurons up for later Scrabble games, and even later, WordsWithFriends apps. :D
Speaking of car trips, the Other Shoe and I went out of town for a college buddy's wedding reception. (Mazel tov, you crazy kids!) He drove, and I dozed off on the way there. I woke up sobbing. I've never done that before. I'd dreamed, so vividly, of someone I hadn't though of in fifteen years, who's been dead for perhaps twenty, and I'm only just past thirty if that puts it in perspective. I dreamed a memory I hadn't thought of in so long ...
It was one summer when I was visiting relatives in Poland - I was walking with a gaggle of assorted cousins and neighbor kids back home one evening. I must have been twelve, maybe thirteen, and I doubt the oldest was older than fourteen or so. We were all just kids, but rural Poland was as safe as any 50's-style nostalgia we Murricans entertain, so it was just us kids. I remember the big bright moon was already out, shining down on us all. This boy - and dammit, I do not recall his name - was walking next to me and out of the blue he squeezed me hand and told me I was pretty. I was shocked into complete speechlessness; while I may entertain delusions of hotness now, I was a quintessential ugly ducking and believe you me, nobody told me I was pretty, and certainly not random boys. I stammered out a "thank you," and he responded with his "you're welcome" in a construction so formal and old-fashioned that I'd rarely heard it - it literally translates into "you thank me for nothing."
That was all - no kissing, nothing else, just that one moment. He dropped my hand after a few seconds, and that was all. I certainly hadn't had a crush on him or anything, so this was all very unexpected and confusing.
A year later, my mother told me that my aunt had mentioned in one of her letters that he had died suddenly - some insect-borne fever is all I recall now.
And so, when I dreamed of him so vividly, that night I'd long forgotten, I could not remember his name even in my dream, and woke up with tears streaming down my face.
RIP, nameless boy.
(That said, the rest of our trip was splendid. It was great seeing old college friends again - some of whom wound up marrying each other, so it really did turn into a mini-reunion - and we always love, love, love getting a chance to visit Austin again. Must. Move. Back. SOOOOON!!!eleventy!)

Oh purple...
We never had random games we played, especially in the car. My sister would fall asleep too soon.
So I've started decorating my cubicle. I had put up my Nanowrimo 'winners' certificate at the end of November, and had a charger for my mp3 player, and a blanket, but everything else I was taking home everyday. Now I've got two cute little business card holders from Chinatown that I got in my stocking - one is a ninja and one is a little girl in kimono. And I hung my new Thundercats calendar.
I wonder if I could get away with permanently converting my keyboard to Dvorak and stickering it. (I can switch right now, but I have to switch for every program which is confusing as heck)

On car trips, my family would occasionally play where we had to find letters. More often though, we played a game where we had to count the animals -- left side of the car versus the right side. It was one point per animal except a white horse, which was 20 points.
We also played a game where we all thought of a song, then at the count of 3 all sang our song at once. That's fun once or twice.

ShinyCat just to be on the safe side I say clear it with TPTB. One never knows how an irkplace will feel about these things.
SmartAssBBBobbio she must disavow all knowledge of my activities as well as all knowledge of ever knowin' I or this place existed. :p IMS = Information Management System. It's real name is AIMS, Aging Information Management System so called due to the agency bein' Division on Aging and also due to the fact that the dang thing is a dinosaur.
We also played a game where we all thought of a song, then at the count of 3 all sang our song at once. That's fun once or twice.
Another prime example of the kidly obligation to do stuff that drives the 'rents crazy. An excellent one I might add. :D

Do you have family games that you consider your own? What are they and how did they come about?
Our family version of "Hi Bob" which may actually predate "Hi Bob" by several years. My Dad, Gramma, brother and I all loved bad horror movies (I'm talking some stuff that made Plan 9 From Outer Space look Oscar worthy). We were watching a movie called the Giant Claw and noticed we were each basically taking a drink when people said "battleship". Once we noticed that we started doing it on purpose. Since they call the monster "big as a battleship" plenty of times it gave us a chance to "ingrain" it. And start laughing and hooting about it. My brother and I still automatically make a drinking motion whenever we hear the word "battleship" and my wife caught the habit as well. Part game and part tradition.
We have shared it with others at a local thing called Bad Movie Monday so the family expands. And the worst movie monster in history (after the Creeping Terror) lives on.

My husband and his siblings were apparently so rotten that punch buggy wasn't enough. On long trips they would play:
Punch Buggy
Slap Taxi
Kick Bus
and to wrap thing up in a nice Canadian bow
Elbow Canoe.
He told this story when our kids were 8 and 9. I immediately banned all of the above.

FCM, my sympathies for the hard decision you've made *hug*
Purple, *hug* to you as well, I've had dreams that have instantly brough the long distant past back to me, it's very bittersweet.
We used to play Padiddle. (Spotting cars with one headlight) In addition, there were semididdles (semi trucks with one headlight) and Diddleaps, cars with one rear light gone. And that was one of the more normal games we'd play (I still play this!)

Back from the vet's. For the first time in about 21 years, we are a dogless household. And we're agreed that we'll stay that way... probably. It's funny, that 21-year run began and ended with little black dogs rescued off the street - first was Freeway, who wandered up to our inlaws' building site in FL and immediately adopted our daughter. He was a great pup...
Anyway, it's snowing. I doubt that it'll stick, but it's coming down pretty good at the moment and the ground is wet. I've got a fire going because it's cold - the kind of cold that creeps into your core. Thank goodness for a big pile of firewood!
Poke sammiches have been ingested and I realized why they tasted meh - I neglected to cook the roast with onions. How stoopit is that??? I did add some reconstituted onions to the sauce, but it's not the same. On the other hand, the slaw I got from Food Lion was really full of onions, so there's that.
No one played a rousing round of "I'm not touching you!!!!!!" ?? :D

I'm sorry you had to do that Mooom. Purple mentioned waking up in tears - I wake up in tears when I dream about the need to put one of my doggies to sleep. I HATE those dreams. Luckily they only come once a month or so.
I think my house is haunted. Last night, I was straightening the covers to get in to bed and Sweetie was coming through the door. I distinctly heard someone say, "shhh, shhh". He came in the room and asked who I was talking to. I said no one. He said he heard someone say, "shh, shh". Creeped me right out - to the point that I checked under the bed and in the closets.
About 10 minutes later, I was in bed, with my earbuds in and he came in from the bathroom and asked what I had said. I said I hadn't said anything. He said he heard someone say, "HEY!" - followed by something else, while he was in the bathroom.
The only reason I wasn't too creeped to sleep was because the dogs weren't bothered by any of it. Still though, I need to go in the basement and I'm still thinking about robbers hiding out in my basement, telling each other to be quiet so they don't get caught.
My financial aid changed between Friday and Saturday an I don't know why. The extra money I was looking forward to for helping with household expenses has gone away. I still have a refund coming but it's way smaller than it had been and will give me enough for textbooks and not much else. We'll get by without the refund but it's going to be a lot harder and it's very frustrating.
However, I did managed to tweak my schedule enough so that I have 4 classes I'm actually looking forward to taking. I have Intro to Conservation Biology on Monday and Wednesday and on Tuesday and Thursday I have Physics of the Environment, Climatology, and North American Prehistory. Should be an interesting semester.

You know, my post came across a lot more morose than I meant it. I started by talking about car trips and segued into that, but mostly because I was still enjoying memories of a supremely lovely weekend.
So, to lighten things up: I was given a fluted "vase" for the holidays that's a perfect big ol' betta bowl. Brought it into my office last week, and went out on my lunchbreak today to buy a lovely rust-orange half-moon guy. He contrasts beautifully with the light and dark blue glass marbles I put at the bottom (which is why I didn't want the typical blue/purple betta) and he's staring quietly at me through the glass as I type.

Gack! My natural grace has been augmented by my bad knee. Day before yesterday I was walking over the threshold from the patio. Only I forgot the doormat and tripped the whole way to crash up against the coffee table.
Ow! I sprained my right wrist, made the knee worse, banged my nose and scraped the bridge, and to top it off banged my bicep. Bruise as big as a grapefruit.
Do you know how hard it is to get the top off soup with one hand? But that's all I could eat because the dentist dug around on two teeth. So I gave up anything but pathetic re-heating. Let's see if I can drive tomorrow cause I have appointments and don't want to take a taxi.
Which reminds me we didn't do anything in the car but read and talk once us kids were old enough. Before that we sang. My parents could be pros, my sister and I not so much.

It's all foggy outside! We were supposed to have some sun today - it better happen, dammit!!! And my new vacuum cleaner is supposed to be ready for pickup today - it better be, since the old one is petty close to worthless. And I get to go to the dentist today for my semi-annual cleaning - woo and hoo!
The big chore for today will be switching over the aquarium sump from upstairs to down. FCD has been figuring out exactly what he needs so we don't have to stop partway thru to run to the hardware store. I think he needs to get one more plumbing piece today. I dunno - I'm just the muscle, since he's still not supposed to lift. I'll be carrying buckets of stuff downstairs so we can get the upstairs tank out of the way and connect to the pipes that come up thru the floor, across the closet wall, and into the back of the aquarium cabinet. It's a wonder to behold!!
Other than that, I got nothing. I finished another hat-n-scarf set for the homeless shelter, then made a hat and started a matching scarf. Gotta keep the fingers busy, right? I don't think I can watch TV without a project in my hands.

Gotta keep the fingers busy, right?
Just as I was reading this a dog jumped up on the couch next to me and instead of saying 'hi' to her, I said 'right.' I guess I was answering you, FCM. :D
I had a hard time getting out of bed this morning. I think I'll be a little better after tonight is over. And then ultimately better by Friday, but that seems a long way off.
We played a game at the dinner table with some close family friends where you'd think of a rhyming 2-word association with something and everyone else would have to guess what it is. For example, the clue might be "sushi" and the answer would be "fish dish". They could be tricky, like using "shark" for "cool pool." "Donut" could clue for "roll hole", etc.
Just about the time everyone got tired of it someone would throw another out there and off we'd go again.
"Veneers."

lieu, that reminds me of a teacher who wanted us to play a game called "Hinky Pinky" - the difference being, you used a 2-word clue, so "obese feline" = "fat cat." It never caught on - we thought it was a stupid game. We were cool kids, you know. ;)
And is the answer thin skin?

:grumble: too early, etc...
Day 10 sans caffeine. I've discovered Twinings English breakfast, which is wonderful and I've been drinking it throughout the day, but I miss my morning coffee.
My cousin, who was never known for her brains, is in my math class. She has been back to school for a few terms, after living on the streets for a decade. She going to embarass my to death. Yesterday, right before class before class she leans over and whispers '"hey, you want to see something neat?" I wasn't thinking much of it and said sure. So, instead of reaching into her bag to show me a book or something, she scoots her chair back and begins to untie her shoe.
I told her to just show me later... I really don't want to know. Thankfully, espaņol is a bit more mature. I love my cousin like a sister, but my god she is a dope.
Is this what college is all about? Being the grown-up in a room full of kids? Whatever happened to sex, drugs and parties?
And is the answer thin skin?

I don't remember if I mentioned I'm trying to get my black belt in April. That means I need to take about six classes a week. I don't want to get dressed Saturdays, so I have to do it Mon-Thurs (two classes on Mondays and Wednesdays.)
I may die. I took two classes last night, and I am so pooped. And sore. I got a cramp in my butt in the middle of first class and that cheek still hurts. And my back... and...
And I really wish they wouldn't insist on 'ladies first'. I HATE the idea that having sticking-in parts means I should be treated special. But if I don't go along it's disruptive. Grrr. Just have to deal with it (and the teacher's in-your-face Christianity in emails and stuff) a little longer.

HELLO EVERYONE!
I was an only child so I didn't exactly have games in the car. Who would I play them with? My parents were definitely of the "Children should be seen and not heard" category.
So I used to talk to cars, or pretend they were talking to me. Cars' headlights can look like eyes, and depending on their placement, I used to pretend they were angry to see me or happy to see me. I used to call myself the Queen of Cars, and used to make the angry ones 'bow' down to me eventually. (I'd stare at them long enough until I'd get the optical illusion of the 'eyes' showing respect).
Because there really isn't any other place to put it: I do have a clear memory of one time when I was sitting up in the back of our station wagon (for you whippersnappers, we didn't have to wear a seatbelt or anything!). We were stopped in traffic, and there was this wonderfully nice looking elderly couple in the car behind us. I had a big picture book, like 11 x 17 size, so I sat cross-legged in the back of the book and patiently showed them every page (there were only like 10) and pointed out each page. I remember them paying close attention, and nodding, and smiling, and when I finished I waved, and they waved back.
I always wonder what those nice old folks thought. :)

Meeks - your picture book story reminded me of one time I was driving a van with my youngest sister in the back - she would have been about 15 or 16 at the time. It was a work van that I'd borrowed to pick up some furniture I'd ordered, and my sis had come along to help me. As I was driving down the road, she decided it would be funny to press her face up against the back window, clawing with her hands, and mouthing "HELP MEEEEEE!!!" She wasn't smart enough to realize that one quick tap on the brake and she was knocked on her ass. Yeah, my sister thinks she's hilarious.

Oh my stars, 'Mika, that last part is the cyoooootest story evah! How old were you?
So, new fishie made it through his first night on my desk here at work, and now that he's settled in he seems quite the active and curious little sprite. My mother had a betta that lived for-fucking-ever (seriously, he must have made it to his sixth birthday at least) but we used to joke that it was because he never moved. This one follows my movements and seems to like it when I run my finger slowly and gently across the glass. For lunch I opened a can of tuna and was distrubed at how closely he was paying attention to me as I cracked it open and started to snarf down one of his distant relatives. Must get ass in gear and post pictures, although they're hard to take because the glass is fluted so some part of his fins are always distorted in a very pretty (to me) way.
Mostly I just refer to him as "fishie" but this morning as I was walking in it occurred to me that I might privately name him Sanity.

I have a GREAT betta story which I will tell in a moment.
I don't remember how old I was in that story, and there's no one to really ask, but I'd say somewhere between six and nine, so not terribly young, but young enough to still be unselfconscious. :)
Here is my betta story.
I had a betta, once. He was alone for a while, and then I decided to set up a fish tank. So I set up this awesome fish tank, with angels, tetras, neons, gobys, catfish, and others. It was wonderful. I added the betta to it. I know they are supposed to fight, but I figured if he did, we'd pull him out.
He never fought. He was absolutely Lord and Master, but he lived peacefully in the tank for about three years.
Enter one of Mika's Great Ideas. I decided he needed a girlfriend! So I went out and bought him a female betta, and added her to the tank. Chaos ensued.
In three days, he had eaten Ms. Betta. We found her remains plugging up the filter.
In two more days he had killed and partially eaten almost every fish in the tank.
In a week, he had eaten most of the plants and killed off all all of the fish.
In two weeks the tank was a barren wasteland! He had destroyed it, all for the introduction of a girl. My beautiful angels, my tetras, my neons. All gone. Why didn't I remove him? Well, for one, i wasn't sure it was him, and I was kind of taken aback. By the time my fish were dead (remember that was only five days) I figured he'd be fine now, at least alone.
That betta lived on for two more years. I tell you though, I never put my fingers near the tank again.
Just goes to show what happens when you get the taste! :)

Home from irk. I went by to see about the sickie. He says he's feelin' better but still looks like death warmed over. Anywho, I didn't get real close, that bein' our general rule when one of us is sick. He has soup, oj and meds so he's good to recuperate. Bein' as I was feelin' lazy I picked up a burger and snarfed it down when I got to da cave.
That is all for now.
Geez, ems, I'm pretty sure I'd get fired before any 10 hour meeting was over. You would probably not be surprised to here that we see all of these by one person or another in this meeting every month. Usually it is only 6 hours but there is previous year in review bullshit to cover as well as appraisals to cover and a whole bunch of other crap. Urgh.
My conf call only lasted 6 hours instead of the prescribed 8. Yay! So I got the chance to go see one of my employees who started as a trainee in my location a couple of years ago pass his big promotion presentation this afternoon. And now I am leaving to go gorcery shop.

It looks like I have a torn meniscus in my knee and no betta fish. My betta Indi (short for Indigo; guess his color!) lived for around eight years. My mom had to be banned from buying any after the carnage got too extreme.
So I may/probably need surgery, which isn't the end of the world, insurance wise. What'll get me is taking care of the house and animals. How do you pick out and get ready for a whole new career and location if your knee is recuperating? Gotta be done asap, though.

Morning all!
Finally had my MRI scan that I've been waiting for for ages- hopefully they'll just tell me there's nothing major going on, 'cos my back does seem to be getting better.
I've even been down my allotment site diggin' out the veg beds for spring- if we get a spring, 'cos we don't seem to have had a winter yet; this time last year, the ground had been frozen solid for 2 months, this year we had one light ground frost, and my marigolds are still flowering. Most odd. I'd happily take some of the spare cold any of you have lying around, or we're going to be overrun with slugs 'n stuff this year.
I got a fishtank- but no bettas. I did get a pair once, but the girly betta turned out psycho, and killed most of the other fish, including Mr. Betta! Didn't work out who was doing it for ages, so didn't manage to stop it. I think I got an angry feminist one... ;)
I have some new babbies too- axolotyls, brought home at christmas, new hatched offspring of my parents' ones. Been spending ages watching them gormlessly try and hunt- honestly, they get outwitted by water fleas, how do they ever live in the wild?? Very cute though.

Good mornin' y'all! Up and caffienatin'. *YAWN* 'Tis 62 Amurrkin out and that is the high for the day. It's also rainin' and will rain most of the day, hence the fact that we are at the high already. Da cave temp says 72, thus, the heat is not runnin' which is a good thing. Matter of fact the heat hasn't been on for three days. I can live with that.
gotti I'm still waitin' on tax stuff. I pretty much know I won't owe anything but I'm clueless as to the refund amount I'll be gettin'. Probably a couple hunnert bucks at best.

Good morning! I woke up having a dream about Tom Hanks weeping to me over some trauma in his childhood or some such. The few specifics I remember include ruins of old buildings, a sink that didn't work, and putting powder on someone, only to discover that it was finely ground gunpowder. After that, who could sleep?
Walmart still hasn't delivered my new vacuum cleaner. I emailed and complained, and they wrote back to say it's on the way but not to worry, they don't charge my card till it's delivered. Hah - how about it was charged 2 weeks ago?? I let them know what I thought of that - wonder if I'll get a gift card for my inconvenience? I think they owe me some chocolate at the very least.
Today is finally the big day - we'll be hooking up the new aquarium plumbing and with luck, all will go well. Speaking of bettas - I was under the impression that you never put 2 together in a tank. My daughter used to have a pair, but she had a divided tank so they could see each other but not get to each other. Which begs the question - where do bebeh bettas come from then? Not that I really care - we don't do fresh water fish.
Other plans for today, you ask? Um, I should probably bring up our luggage for the cruise and start thinking about what to pack. There are things I can pack already - I doubt that I'll be wearing shorts or my bathing suit over the next 4 or 5 days...
I have no idea what our taxes are going to be like this year. I did see my W2 for the 7 months I was working, plus my retirement incentive payout. Haven't see one for my partial retirement payments, but quick math suggests overall, I'll make the same or slightly less than last year, so there's that. Unfortunately, OPM doesn't yet withhold state income taxes from my pension money, so I may have to pay there. Plus at the end of the year, FCD had one short term disability check from which nothing was withheld. It's probably not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Anyway, I don't expect to get our taxes done till we're back from the cruise, and I'd be thrilled to be within a buck of our obligations. Ain't gonna happen, but it would be cool.
We're supposed to get rain tonight. As long as it holds off till we haul the stuff upstairs down to the new sump in the basement, it can rain all it wants. Depending on how long my sweetie sleeps, we may be done about lunch time, so threats of PM rain won't matter. I see knitting this afternoon - I've finished 2 hat/scarf sets and I've started a third. I plan to have them all done, washed with the afghan I finished over the weekend, and I'll deliver them all to Mom on Sunday. If I ever develop an allergy to acrylic yarn, I'll go insane!!!
And that's my morning so far. Stay tuned for further updates! :D

Ah the joys of the self-employed. I haven't quite finished up with my accounting stuff from last year. But, I am waiting on one miscellaneous W-2 that hasn't showed up from a temp job so it will be awhile before I get any tax stuff done.
Despite the fact that yesterday was the one that I was most anxious about, I've been having an anxiety attack for, oh, probably about the last 5 hours with intermittent sleep.
Now to try to act motivated and get some work done for the day.
Almost forgot to mention... I ordered a new pair of tennis shoes from Zappos last night when I got home from school which was at about 9 p.m. and THEY'RE ON THE TRUCK TO BE DELIVERED HERE THIS MORNING!! Wow. And it was free shipping, too.

The aquarium is re-plumbed and the old sump tank is sitting on the front porch. I'll get daughter to help me move it around to the back tomorrow. FCD is figuring out the computer now, which will give us control of everything but filling the sump. That part will be added after we get back.
I ran to the grocery store for a few items for us and some stuff for daughter next week while she's staying here. I've got a fire going - it's raining and just icky outside, and chilly and damp in here. FCD's shorts were just delivered - as soon as he tries them on so we can be sure they're right, I'll run them thru a rinse cycle in the washer. That'll be today's big excitement.

So yeah, maybe at the next next grading. In October.
In Toronto we have this composting program, so we have garbage, recycling, and green bin pickup. The green bin is all food and animal waster, and diapers. The damn squirrels chewed through the lid of one of our bins a couple of days ago, and it's been deeply depressing to watch the squirrel All-You-Can-Eat buffet on the porch. So I went out during naptime and duct taped a double layer of cut up aluminum cans over and under the hole.
An hour later, I've got a hissing growling squirrel that chewed through the layers and refuses to come out. Blast.

Yes, but our plan is either brilliant or insane. We know the area we want to move to, so we're getting a storage unit in that area, and are moving stuff to it slowly, rather than knocking ourselves out in one or two heroic days of moving. The potential insanity is that we don't have a new home picked yet. For now, we're stashing unessential things like the Xmas decorations, extra linens, books, and such.
I've got a final cost of my neck surgery - $70,000 billed to the insurance company. The actual artificial disc implant was over $18,000 on its own.

"Hey Y'all!" Channeling Paula Deen tonight, I guess. :D Sorry to have been MIA; I don't really have an excuse either. But here I am. Hugs and good thoughts to all in need.
My family didn't have our own particular games that we played while traveling in the car. Probably my favorite was the license plate game. We always tried to find cars with tags for where we lived, or where our relatives lived. I remember once when we were going to Maine from Delaware one August; I think we were on the way to the Tappenzee Bridge, so somewhere in NY state or upper New Jersey. At any rate, we saw another Delaware tag car, and as it got closer to us, we realized it was a neighbor from up the street; the widowed mother was my 11th grade English teacher! She and her sons were headed to their summer cottage somewhere in upstate NY. Small world!!
Sunday I cracked my crock pot crock; I used it to brown a roast on top of the stove, and when I added some broth, it cracked. Dummy me, I don't know why I thought that you could cook on the stove top with it, but I did think that and no, you should NOT do that. So don't try it, okay? I was able to order a replacement crock although it probably would have been just as cost effective to get a new crock pot. This one was fairly new, we'd only gotten it in October. I was browning it in the crock pot because it was going to be cooked in the crock pot, and I didn't want to have two pots to clean (by way of some explanation for my own stupidity, I suppose!).
I have also been trying to crochet hats. I am thinking of maybe working with a group that makes things for Project Linus, except my skills are really not that good. I am so clumsy, most of my efforts come out lumpy and uneven, unfortunately. I have been able to crochet one hat so far that looks okay. I've currently got at least three going, including one that I've unraveled several times so far! The current version seems to be going okay and I think I've gotten the hang of the simple pattern, but the two that I've tried to make so far with that... well, one of them is -huge- and the other is a bit too snug. LOL I feel like Goldilocks - where's the one that's "just right?!"
Tuesday I have an appointment with the opthamologist; I've been seeing "floaters" in the eye that I had the cataract surgery in a little over a year ago. I still haven't had surgery for my other eye yet, so I'm going to ask about that. I may have to wait a bit longer, though - there's a $250 co-pay for out patient surgery in my new plan!
In the mean time, it's off to the grocery store tomorrow morning. Hope everyone is doing well. And I am dreading taxes this year - I haven't seen a W-2 for work yet, and like FCM, since June no state taxes were withheld. I may, for the first time in many many years, have to file for an extension. Like I said, I really hate to think about it. Oh well.
Happy nearly Thursday, all!

I'm going to drop a huge update email on Irish Brother today and ask if he can come down here this weekend to mediate among everyone in the house because I'm sick of being the monkey in the middle. Nobody is seeing how their behavior looks from anyone else's point of view except me and it's frankly driving me to another breakdown if it's not resolved posthaste.
In other news, I finally rescheduled my headshrinker appointment for next Wednesday. I couldn't do it before due to moving and the earpiece on my phone up and dying for no reason. This is the third phone of this type I've had. I'm death on them, apparently.

doggio I just knew somebody would step up with a dentist/architect joke! :D
Sounds like a plan in the makin' gotti.
Herbs remember crock pots are for low heat cookin'. Hence the name slow cooker. :p
Today I get to go to the doc for a physical before irk. Appointment is at nine a.m. I could go in to irk for a bit first but I choose to be a sluggard and not go until after the doc.
OYKW is goin' back to irk today. He got his pizza yestiddy and is all better now. Oh and I do have chili cookin' away in a big slow cooker. Yes, I actually put it on when I got up this mornin'. This way it cooks today, gets to set and mellow overnight and get eaten/frozen tomorrow. Chili is one of those things that's better if'n it gets to set and mellow IMO.
I need more caffiene and some brekkie for rumbly tummy. Then I should get purtified for the doc and irk I guess.
Happy Thursday Y'all!

Blurf. I'm grumpy today.
My blood sugar has become an issue along with my expanding waistline, therefore, I am no-carbing. Three days into it, my mouth tastes funny and my pee smells, so I'm doing something right. It's the presence of ketones, meaning I'm metabolizing fat.
I'm sure the dieting is a contributing factor to my grumpiness, but not the sole cause. It's time to hoist the Jolly Roger and start slitting throats.

Good morning, Mumperworld!! I fell asleep to raindrops on the roof and awoke to many puddles on the ground, not that it was a surprise. Last night's weather radar had a huge expanse of green headed our way, and it definitely passed thru. Today we're supposed to hit low 60s - weird, weird weird...
Nothing exciting planned for today. My sweetie needs to take it easy. After 2 days of working on the aquarium, he was hurting last night. I keep reminding him how recent his surgery was (barely 4 weeks ago) but that doesn't seem to stop him. I swear, I married the world's worst patient!
tarra - I found the hardest part of crocheting and knitting was mastering tension control. Once you get the feel for that, your too big/too small/too lumpy problems will go away. Patience - it'll come to you. Have you tried making little blankets rather than hats? Flat and rectangular or square is easier to master and around here, Project Linus seems to emphasize blankies. ;)
Speaking of crock pots, I get to buy a new small one. We've got a nice big slow cooker, but my older, round crockpot has died, giving me the excuse I've been seeking for ages - a reason to get a new one! :D After we get back from the cruise, I'm gonna find me one.
That's all I've got now. Off to read the funnies, even tho they're rarely funny any more...
Happy Thursday! :D

I missed a taijitsu class last night. I keep forgetting that the first class on Wednesday starts at 5:30. For some reason I can manage to remember on Monday. I'm not terribly worried about it.
Woke up feeling more girly than I've felt in a while, so I'm actually wearing a blouse, and woman's jacket instead of a dress shirt and an unisex jacket. And heels! Technically, they're boots I bought to use for Pirate Faire, but they're nice heeled boots. I think it's about a two inch heel, but it doesn't feel that way.
And then I got in the car, and drove like an asshole*, and swore at other drivers. :p

Heh, I had to get that out of my system early or else I would have turned out wicked screwed up. Today's my birfday. I wasn't born on a Firday though. I was born on a Sunday which just means that old poem is full of crap. Sunday's child ain't blithe...or gay!!
I went to bed at 1am but my back and sciatica hurt too much to fall asleep. So, I took a blanket and a pillow and settled myself down on the hard wood floor. It felt SO good! However, after about an hour, my back felt much better and I decided to give the bed another try. I stood up and looked at my side of the bed and saw this (http://s862.photobucket.com/albums/ab183/spike1380/?action=view¤t=iggyinbed.png).
I slept on the couch. :smack:
Why did I pick today for the day to start getting up at a normal time? I have nothing to do today. Sweetie has to work and I have no vehicle. I see a nap in my not to distant future.
LiLi - I agree. Actually, I agree so much that I brainwashed myself into not throwing up at a very young age. What sucks even more is being completely incapable of throwing up when you desperately need to. I can't even remember why I hated it so much (other than the fact that I was doing it repeatedly for days).
{{{{Spaz}}}} - Swampy's right. IRL friends DO suck sometimes. My best friend still gets on my case for breaking up with Sweetie and moving to NY for 2 years because of the fact that I left HER. Happy Birthday, congo!!!!!
I am just about finished taking a quick break from lunch preparations. I hadn't had a chance to eat breakfast so I just did that. After being extremely anxious and whiny all morning I went out to start my van because I needed to go to the store and buy rolls for lunch. And... I had forgotten to liberate the wipers from the windshield so one of the wipers cracked and fell off. Then I started crying. And a fat lot of good it did me, too. :p
After I thought about it for awhile, though, I realized that honestly (even though it didn't seem like it right then) it picked the best possible time and place to break and it could have done much more damage that just a broken blade. So, I'm glad about that, I guess.

Well whoop-de-doo - it appears the Xtreme wind has knocked a large branch on to our red shed leaving a gaping hole along one end. Once FCD finishes showering and dressing, we'll be wandering out there to check it out and see what we have to do to protect the stuff inside. But come spring, we'll need another shed, or we'll need to clean out the white shed and make room for all the stuff from the red shed. Or we'll need shelves in the garage for red-shed-stuff. Anyway, rah for the wind...

Sweetie just gave me my birfday pressie. He gave me a gym membership. Before you ladies get all up in arms about how uncouth he is...I wanted it. I want a new vacuum too but he didn't get me one of those. :(
Anyway, one of the few things I don't like about this area is how far we are away from convenience. The only gym I know of in the area isn't open convenient hours and it's too busy and too intimidating. Well, a new small, family owned gym is opening in Sturbridge on Feb5 and it's gonna be open 24/7 with staff available at normal hours and key card access and no staff on off hours. I'm very excited about this. It's only about a 8 minute drive and even shorter at 1am so it's really close too.
I can't wait for Feb5!!!

I was wrong - it wasn't a branch - it was a tree. A dead tree that was behind the shed fell and hit the roof, snapped, and the broken top rolled to the side of the shed. It's a mess. Thankfully, we'd moved our sucker-vac to the garage a couple of months ago, or it would have been crushed.
We're going to put a tarp inside the shed to cover what needs to be covered, and we'll deal with it all in the spring.
I'm going to make my pre-cruise checklist so we don't forget anything. What are the chances?

Spend the day digging and acquiring horse poo, in an attempt to get myself really tired. It seems to be working, my brain's obviously in shut down.
*yaaaaaawn*
Started the new term of pottery classes last night- was a little awkward- there's 4 guys there all with learning disabilities (one guy who was there last term, 2 of his friends, and one other guy with the same caseworker), and all but the one back from last time just don't seem to have any interest in doing anything; so the teacher's just having all her time taken up trying to get them doing something, and not getting bored and playing with other peoples' pots.
Their caseworker seems to basically sign them up whether or not they want to be there; it all seems a bit of a waste of everyone's time, including the other 2 really interested people who signed up to learn stuff, but have every conversation with the teacher interrupted. She's not a great teacher to begin with (she's very nice, and knows her stuff, but gets constantly sidetracked, doesn't appear to have any plan of what she's doing, and wurbles aimlessly a lot), and this is a really tough mix of students... Good job it's a cheap class; I'm not expecting to get much teaching.

A scramble dawg is a hot dawg, grilled, nuked or steamed, your choice, placed in a bun and cut into bite size pieces. One dumps chili, onions, mustard, oyster crackers, dill pickle slices and grated cheese on top and eats away with a fork or spoon. They are messy but nummy! Purists argue over whether or not there should be cheese but I say there should always be cheese.

I searched on the phone number and the only hit I got was someone confirming that it was Freedom Mortgage Refinance calling about a refi. application they had filled out.
They called us in late 2010 to see if we wanted to refinance but they were offering an adjustable rate so we said no. This time she said it wasn't an adjustable rate. Oh well, Sweetie said he was too busy to answer when they called and left him a message that they'll call back.
My diploma (degree?) came today!! Now I need to get a frame for it. I feel a bit silly being so excited about an Associates degree when so many of you have advanced degrees but it's the first time I haven't quit something important when it got too stressful.
Well, I decided how to spend my day. I'm watching old scary movies. I just watched the Masque of the Red Death (one of my favorite Poe stories) and was pleased with it. I tried to watch the Dunwich Horror but I forgot how much it pisses me off that they never bothered to pronounce it correctly (never mind the fact that it sucks ass and has too many closeups of Dean Stockwell's unibrow). So I turned that one off. Now I'm watching the Pit and the Pendulum. I'm on a Vincent Price kick today apparently.

Happy birthday, congo! After three pregnancies, I've pretty much trained myself to throw up at the first signs of nausea, because then I feel better. Doesn't work with flu, but does with morning sickness.
I'm 31 weeks pregnant, which does feel like ages. Twins are full-term at 37 weeks, and I'm hoping we can deliver about 35 weeks, if everyone is measuring okay, and the babies will be able to come home instead of staying in the NICU (which will happen if they're underweight). I've never had a baby less than eight pounds before. Smaller will be weird.
Filbert, I currently want to eat ice, clay, cement, and laundry soap. Socks would be normal. No, I am not joking. I wish I were.

I think it's great! Definitely something to be proud of. Or, if you're going to be an English major I should say 'definitely something of which you should be proud!' :D
Well, I got the wiper blade and a companion for the other side and I can't figure the damn things out. I'm usually the wiper blade queen around here. I guess I'm going to have to resign my title. :( Fortunately, my dad will be here in a little bit.

This is another very good point. Sometimes IRL friends just don't get mental health stuff.
That's pretty much what's going on here. I'm dealing with depression and Culinary Boy is recovering from alcoholism and PTSD. Everyone's pretty much tired of our issues, so we've decided to remove ourselves from their lives and work on our issues separately. He's finally taking advantage of the huge resources he can get as an OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom) vet and I'm passing time until my appointment next week.
And to top it all off, Mysterio, el mal gato, peed on my bed last night. Through three blankets, two sheets, and the mattress pad where it was stopped by the pad's plastic backing. Fortunately Clown washed and dried all my bedding today for me.

When Sweetie came in the house, I asked him, "Dude, did you know that facebook had us in an open relationship?"

Well, I don't. Instead, I take a lot of chewable vitamin C every day, because the texture reminds me of laundry soap. It's probably related to some nutritional deficiency, or possibly to pregnancy just being nuts.

Good start to the day here! I got all the dirty clothes downstairs, sorted 'em, and started the first load. Then I turned on the water maker and the pump and heater, added salt, and left it to mix till it comes to temp so we can do a water change. And capped off my basement adventures by bringing up the 3 roller duffles so we can start packing... after the clothes are clean... and after someone gets out of bed. :D
At that point, I goofed. I forgot I had leftover pizza (yet the boxes were sitting on the counter and I was thinking that I should toss them in the trash) and instead made cheese on rye. How dumb is that?? Oh well, pizza for lunch then.
Last night we watched 3 episodes of The Tudors, and today, I want to watch the last 4 so we'll finish out the series. I don't want one or two hanging while we're gone - I'll forget too much. Caffeination is nearly complete. I need to get my hiney in gear and finish cleaning up around here for tonight's shindig.
It's a good thing I'll still have a weekend left after tonight.
They're still threatening us with snow. The problem with that is it's pretty much hit or miss in this area. We have a convergence zone too, and they tend to get hit with it more that we do down south of it. However, once in awhile the weather gods decide to be capricious and flip that around and we get more.
At most, we'll see a couple of inches, assuming we even really get any. It's supposed to move in earlier than expected, but I still don't see any white outside. That's good, especially since we have pipples coming for dinner and fun.
Well, I must finish the cleaning. I realized too, that I forgot something at the store, so I need to make a final dash down there to pick that up too. It's a casual gathering, so I will be serving food on red solo plates. I don't have enough plates in my regular dinner ware to serve the amount of people coming, and I refuse to take out my handwash dinnerware.

too much happybirthdaying yesterday?
I wish. No, it was really frustrating actually. I woke up really early (for me) yesterday to start putting myself on a normal schedule. I tried to go to bed at 11:30, with the help of 2 sleeping pills. I finally fell asleep (on the couch) just as Sweetie's alarm went off at 4:15. So I moved back to the bed as he got up to get ready for work....and couldn't fall asleep.
Ginger wouldn't stop barking all morning. I finally did get back to sleep around 5 but she kept waking me up with her barking and barking and barking and then as soon as she stopped and went to sleep, Holly started barking and barking and barking. Iggy and I were both quite annoyed with them.
I finally fell asleep for real around 10am and just now woke up so my normal sleep is all kaput now.
Gotta pick up the Jeep at 8 tonight. $565 for labor and the parts he had to buy and $1500 worth of work is done. YAY! It better friggen pass inspection on Monday because if it doesn't, I'm screwed.

Hugs for Spaz, and a belated happy birthday to ShortDrum. Hang in there, LiLi, sending good thoughts your way and to everyone else who needs or even just would like to have them. :)
Wow, must have been some magic in FCM's encouraging words, because I think I might be on my way to getting the "tension" right when crocheting now! I also watched (and re-watched) several how-to videos on youtube. I was somehow able to fix the hat that was too big - it now looks like a rasta hat, but it can also make it as an oversized beret. I'm still not sure how I did it, but I got the brim/edge of the hat to be smaller enough to be snug. And I've also crocheted a couple of more just right size hats now, so it wasn't a fluke. Yeah buddy! Now it's on to find and join a Project Linus project. :)
We had barbequed pulled pork sandwiches last night - home made. They were delicious; I'm also making a sausage and pasta casserole tomorrow. I think I'd like to maybe find a vegetarian cooking class somewhere; we'll see if it's on the course menu of any of the nearby community centers. Maybe just a recipe exchange. Meat has gotten even more expensive, and it's probably healthier to eat vegetarian a couple of times a week. Let me make it clear, however, that I am NOT giving up meat altogether, that's for sure. :)
Hope everyone has an enjoyable Saturday evening. I'm going to be watching Animal Planet's Pit Boss and Pit Bulls and Parolees - gotta watch the dogs! :)

It's probably not particularly nice of me to say, but since Scruffy has been gone, I'm sleeping really well. No more being wakened in the middle of the night or way too early in the morning. We stay up till 11 or 12 and I wake around 6-7 feeling human. I'd forgotten what that was like.
All the last minute stuff gets done today. FCD has to finish packing. I need to gather our toiletries and sundries. Bed must be stripped and re-made, and I'll toss the sheets in the wash. Also fresh towels will be put out for our housesitter. :D She's bringing her Christmas stuff over to put back in the attic, and I'll have to help her with that. And I need to make a list of stuff for her to remember. Details, details...
Last of the leftover pizza for breakfast, and I've got leftover Messican food for lunch (Pollo Fiesta - muy yummo!!) Target departure time is 2-ish. Will we make it?? You may never know, but I'll try to post at Mom's when we get there tonight. Dunno if I'll be back here before then. Depends on when my sweetie gets up.
Yay, tarra! Glad you're figuring out the tension thing. Just FYI, I finished an afghan last week, and the start end and finish end aren't exactly the same, even tho the stitch count didn't change. Apparently over the course of the 6' of length, my stitches got tighter or looser. So even with 40+ years of experience, I still make beginner mistakes. Just to let you know what you may be facing. ;)

Morning everyone!
Since I think I managed to forget on Firday - Thanks for the Happys everyone!!
Got the Jeep back last night. $565 for a new ball joint, a new floor pan with seat legally attached to it, new heater core and controls. He told us that we need to get 3 tiny little plugs for the carburator to help it run better and help the gassy smell go away. We also need to get plugs for the floor pan because HOLY HELL that's some cold ass air coming up my pant leg!!! Those were little things he didn't have time to do and I can easily do and weren't actually in his plan to do anyway. We also need to give it back to him when I have time to be without it (spring break most likely) so he can replace the heater cables. He set it up so the heat would blow as hot as possible and we can turn it off and on but that's it. He didn't have time to replace them (because I need it back for tomorrow).
So, it has heat and it runs and the bad ball joint is gone. He said our breaks are great, as are our tires but we need an oil change (which we knew) and those various plugs and new wipers and that's all stuff I can do after it (hopefully) passes inspection tomorrow. Once all that's done, I can go to school and finally get my parking permit so I'll be all ready for class at 8AM on Tuesday. YAY!!!
Somehow managed to sleep at midnight and got up at 8:30. I'm wide awake and ready for the day which shall be packed full of......nothing. :dubious: Hmm. Mayhaps I need to find myself something to do.
Ginger is trying to con me into giving her my yogurt. It's not gonna work, no matter how prettily she sits or how fast her butt wags. :D

I love pecans as well. I like pecan pie, but can't eat more than about 1/2 a slice. It's just too sweet.
Waffles were a success. I have a really nice recipe that contains a minimum of ingredients and no added fat or sugar. And is still yummy. Of course, we added chocolate chips to one of the waffles (I have a 4-square waffle maker), so that made up for that. :D
Am going to make multiple recipes of waffles and throw them in the freezer so that we can just toast them as needed. Yum.
Also, I just looked through the Joy of Cooking to compare the recipe and found that she has a recipe where you put thin slices of bacon on the waffles as you bake them, as in this recipe (http://allrecipes.com/recipe/cornmeal-bacon-waffles-with-cheese-sauce/detail.aspx). That sounds yummy (not sure why the allrecipes author thinks cheese sauce is a good idea; I think a bit of maple syrup would be perfect).
Mmmmm. Waffles.

It's snowing and has been pretty much most of the morning. It stopped for a while and the sun came out enough to melt just a little; but now it's coming down again and everything that was bare is covered again.
The highways and stuff look bare and wet. However, with the temp drop tonight, that crap is going to ice over but good and those that have to work tomorrow are in for a must sucky commute.
Happy Birthday to Gnat!

Am supercleaning my room and watching the old episodes of Downton Abbey. Just waiting for the floor to dry so that I can put everything back again.
It's important to set realistic goals, LiLi. :)
Sounds like a good birthday dinner choice by Nat.
Back to cleaning.

OYKW had gone to pick up pizza but suddenly I want mac 'n cheese with no veggies. :D LiLi do let Gnat know he's a bad influence. I'm sure he'd want to know that. Then again, maybe pizza trumps mac 'n cheese. Especially since I don't have to make pizza.
Thus is the excitatement at da cave today.

I'm 5"3. Mr. Lissar is 6"4. His family, except for his mother (who's 5"5) ranges from between 5"11 and 6"5. I look ridiculous in family pictures.
Making mac'n'cheese. Children are all tragical and we don't know why, but it's really really funny, because neither of them remember why they're crying. Nitwits.

Mr Lissar must be nuts over you.
Shame on you Bobbio. :D
Happy Birthday, Gnat and ShortDrum!!!
Sticky Buns you can just send that disgusting pecan pie to me and I'll dispose of it for you, kthanxbie. :D
I know there was more, but I'm forgetful, so hugs all around.
It snowed here earlier, but then it rained, and now it's gone.
I'm considering going to the store. We may need vanilla ice cream. I'm not sure.
I think I'll make jambalaya for dinner.
I think I'm rambling.

Happy birthday Gnat!
I think we may have a new Lutheran. :D Culinary Boy really, really liked the service today. He also knew to sit near the back of the church. (Well, I had told him about that inclination before.) Lunch was chimichangas at a cheap-but-excellent Mexican place in Washeville* before visiting Computer Boy and Katy Cat.
Sassy Chica and I went kitty fishing this morning. We caught a Mysterio with an old shoelace. It was far more entertaining than it should have been.

I had Papa John's for dinner, since the restaurant that make the best mac n' cheese in Raleigh won't deliver.
rosie, I cook and clean. And alphabetize spices.

Can somebody please cut my dog a break?
I came home tonight to find Bub upstairs with my mom alone. From what she described it sounds as if he had an absence seizure or a focal seizure. Honest to goodness... This is not the first time that I suspected him of having one, but it's been probably at least a year since I witnessed it. I don't know what to do other than to just monitor him and see if it happens again. :(
Now we're hanging out here, just the two of us.

Hopefully it's just something more benign like idiopathic vestibular syndrome. IIRC, the dog's inner ear just goes bonkers for a bit and the brain gets so confused the poor beast pretty much just stops in its tracks for a bit. The last time our dog had it, she went limp on one side and tipped over like one of those fainting goats.
We found a new house to rent. It's almost as if someone asked us what we wanted. Big "game" room that will become the sewing studio, a guest bedroom, an office space for me, a half acre yard with a Chihuahua-proof fence, and a roughly 20x20 foot outbuilding with power that will become my workshop. Close to my office, close to Faire and a lot less than we're paying now. :)
