View Full Version : Sensual Erotic Porn - Any Such Thing?

Reading the thread on foreign porn http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=639785 reminded me: I've often wondered if sensual affectionate pornography exists?

Can't say I've watched a lot of porn over the years, one of the reasons being the "actors" engage in immediate congress without any foreplay or credible story line. Its sexual connection by the numbers.

Andrew Blake, so I'm told... His name always shows up as a director of "couples porn." I find porn more or less kind of boring. At least after ten or fifteen minutes.

Andrew Blake's films are characterized by high production values, artistic stylization, and rigorous technique. His style has been compared to that of the seminal fashion photographer Helmut Newton, and described as "decadent, lush, opulent, unfailingly arousing, moneyed and sophisticated." Blake's contemporaries include the established pornographic director/producers Viv Thomas, Michael Ninn and Marc Dorcel.

Blake's work has been described as "lavishly produced and lovingly edited," and sex writer Violet Blue says of Blake's work: "It's a whole different genre of explicit erotic filmmaking evident from the first frame -- pure high fashion, glossy candyland fantasy. It is luxuriously designed from nip tip to toe. And it's stylish as hell."

Andrew Blake began his career working on movies for Playboy, but shifted to working independently in the 1990s. Most of Blake's films are released through his own production company, Studio A. Andrew Blake is a member of the AVN Hall of Fame. Blake's films usually feature original music scores by the composer Raoul Valve.

Unfortunately it doesn't sell very well. You might try Candida Royalle's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candida_Royalle) Femme Productions.

+1 for Femme Productions - they specialize in tender, romantic, couples films that still have X rated content. They include insertion shots.

One of their best titles is Three Daughters. Which involves, You guessed it three sisters and their relationships with men. The youngest is a young adult that is having her first sexual encounter. It was shot back in the 80's and a very good erotic film.

IIRC Three Daughters comes in a Late Night Cable version and a full on X-Rated version.

His stuff is beautiful; try Wet or High Heels. Truly beautiful women, and you feel like they are being celebrated rather than degraded.

There's also a photo web site called grace and beauty. I've seen photos from there and they do a lot of soft porn shots that attempt to be what the Studio's name implies.

YYMV, but I appreciated the few shots that a friend showed me years ago. I don't know if there's any images of men on that site. The images I saw were studies of the female form. A very nice female form. :D

Erotica isn't porn.

Hilarious earlier thread (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=424012) more or less on this topic.

Thnak you for this thread! I hope more people answer. I have the same problem as you do; they get down to brass tacks so quick and you know, the actual act of sex gets kind of boring.

Not quite in the same vein, but X-Art (not linking for obvious reasons, but pretty easy to figure out the URL) has what I would call "classy" porn.

They are great with the lighting, camera work, etc... and while there isn't a story, there is usually a good deal of foreplay before just getting to it...and when they finally do, it looks nice. No nasty-ass shots from right behind and below the man's ass (seriously, who likes that shot?!), the actors seem really "in" to each other, like they were areal couple, etc...

And all their actors are very attractive.

Erotica isn't porn.

The difference between pornography and erotica is lighting.

What turns me on is erotic; what turns you on is pornographic.

It's kind of like the difference between a church and a cult: a cult is a church down the street from your church.

If you like girl/girl, then AbbyWinters is worth a look. Abby is a poster here and I think she had an "Ask the..." thread. I believe the girls are usually couples and it's quite intimate and tasteful.

My wife and I tried watching some porn with a storyline intro, got bored after five minutes, and fast-forwarded to the fucking scenes.

I heartily second Abby Winters , especially the archives with the Australian stuff, I think the site has done a bit of a shark jump in recent times since it moved shop to Amsterdam.

If you're into that kind of thing, also see IFeelMyself, still operating from Australia, as far as I can tell. Girls Out West might also be worth a look. All in all, Australian porn has a certain flavor all its own.

Elsewhere, Hegre Art has its moments, especially the massage videos.

(I'm posting no links, of course, as this stuff is NSFW as all get out.)

Er... of course, not that I would know about any of these things.

Would (do) you watch an otherwise conventional movie with hardcore sex scenes?

The market question is a bit more complicated than some say it is; sure the existing market for porn probably doesn't have much patience for preliminaries and nuance, but that doesn't mean such an market doesn't potentially exist. Chicken and egg.

In a certain light, I actually have a case.

Now I'm intrigued...

I may be mis-remembering, but I believe our GuanoLad did camera work for Abby Winters... or possibly lighting, given the gag here. :D

Same woman/company/whatever also does Beautiful Agony and IFeelMyself, I am almost certain.

Thanks for reminding me. I read that by about the year 2000 pornography had become mainstream and publicly acceptable. Couples now walked into video stores and rented XXX without embarrassment. Stars like Jenna Jamieson had regular TV shows.

Furthermore women openly expressed their dislike of the hard-core films and wanted more sensual erotic choices. However if you conduct a google search (so I'm told ;)) the sites and movie results are exclusively hard-core which rather suggests that is still 98% of the market.

Many of my aesthetic or creative ideas, though sometimes tertiary or tangential, became central to the Abby Winters paradigm. So I think I helped shape what our style evolved into, at least for a while anyway.

I left long before the recent site redesign and the shift to Amsterdam.

Wow! That, sir, is pretty amazing. I am humbled by your presence.

Have you been involved in anything similar more recently? Any websites we should know about?

Actually, I find almost all of the shot on 35mm stuff from the 70's to fit in this category. Since they were made to appeal to a wide audience, they often have acting a plot, a little humor, and not too much weird shit.

Try 1001 Erotic Nights.

Where does the Batman porn fit into all of this?

http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=8202942&style=ice

(You may have to indicate age but shouldn't have to register.)

And it's supposed to have a way to view it sans sex to see a 60s style batman show.

Fans of sensual bjs (and who isn't a fan of a sensual bj?) might check out Camille Crimson's oeuvre.

Dita Von Teese is a young lady that is trying to bring back Burlesque, striptease and Pinup photography. You'd swear these pics were taken in the 1950's, but they are modern. photo sets of Garters, corsets, stockings etc. very tastefully done.

google image her to get an idea.

She even dresses and looks like a lady from the 1950's.

Completely safe for work

In the late 80's and early 90's I saw some female produced porn, and it was actually good. Contrived, but romantic, storyline. Like a cheesey but lighthearted romance novel type stuff that shows the goods. Lavish costumes. I remember Vivid doing some good stuff as well.

I would look for the specific genre of female produced porn that appeals to you.

My husband likes sensual porn and he finds a lot of it on a subreddit called 'passionx'. I've seen some videos linked there that I quite liked - lots of foreplay, couple focused, and it seemed realistic.
