Maybe I am not reading the right threads but I dont see the name Cecil Adams pop up too much. Why?

Its because he uses an alias. Search for posts by "loverock" instead :)

Cecil is a busy man! You don't get to be the smartest guy in the world by hanging around and chatting. He's got research to do, ignorance to stamp out, butts to kick!

Loverock hmmmm wasn't he the "Spanish Flee" guy?? ROTFLMAO...... *wiping away tears* I printed that one out just so I can have a chuckle every now and again.
As for him stamping out ignorance etc I would think that he would at least poke his head around every once in a while. Granted I have not been a regular on this page for a long time but I thought that in 3 or so months I would have seen him contribute more than once.

Off the top of my head, I know he contributed to the "Glass melding" thread here in General Questions. I also know he has responded to a few people in the part of the board devoted to comments on his columns.

I also have been wondering if he is reading these threads. It seems likely that the only way he could avoid the impulse to put in his 2 cents worth on some of these threads would be if he were not reading them at all.
I am, I guess, judging by myself. When I read through a thread, I find that, more then half the time, I want to say something.
I guess there's no reason why he has to participate. I'm finding these threads interesting and enjoyable, even without The Great One.

It seems likely that the only way he could avoid the impulse to put in his 2 cents worth on some of these threads would be if he were not reading them at all You have to stay after school and write "Cecil is not impulsive." 100 times.
Ay Yi Yi!
Our Unca Cecil has obviously been kidnapped by the Illuminati, due to his vast knowledge of the 17/23 correlation!
Doubtless, he has been taken to a remote island fortress {female fort?} where he will be brainwashed until his vast store of cosmic wisdom is lost to us; or until he becomes a sniveling wretch like that Ed Zotti guy that Cecil salvaged from the rescue mission a few years back.

I have it on good authority that Ed does not snivel . . . much.

Hmpf. I posted this yesterday, but it doesn't seem to have appeared (another of my posts suffered similarly.)
From time to time, the Straight Dope Staff browbeats Ed, and Ed pushes Cecil into reading and commenting on a few posts. But it's an uphill struggle, mainly because Cecil doesn't get paid for this online stuff.
He is hesistant to waste his time and energy thinking about things that he doesn't get paid for. I know, I know, it's a character flaw, but it's not his only such. Hence, he doesn't want to "waste" time on the boards... wading through irrelevant posts, through wrong answers put forth by well-meaning folk, through joke answers put forth by ... umm... whoever might be warped enough to do that, etc.

I'll tell ya what you get Cecil to poke hi head in and toss in this $0.02 and I will personally mail him a crisp $1.00 bill (It's the only American money that I have... I could send him some Canadian money but that is awfully close to worthless) Just let me know where to send the cash.

unca CeCe!!!! May I bow to your greatness!! I have never seen your beauty (as a side note i just asked my girlfriend how to spell "beauty" and she said f-u-c-k-y-o-u I am not positive but she may be thinking that I am talking to an internet floozy) first hand and I am greatly honored..... I have had my questions of your reality over the years but this helps my case of the paranoias.... :) you do great work... keep it up... love it!

Reminds me of a story I heard about an autograph seeker writing to a famous author. He wrote something like "Dear Mr. ______, I have written to you several times seeking your autograph and yet you have never replied. Now, I have just read in the newspaper that you are paid $5 for every word you write. In return for the enclosed five dollar bill, could you please send me one word?"
The author sent the letter back to the autograph hound with one word scribbled at the bottom: "THANKS".

"Mention Cecil's name and he appears."
I thought the folk saying was "Speak of the Devil . . ."?
BTW, I've been thinking . . . for the life of me, I can't think of any words in the English language that end with "G". Can anyone help me out here?

Cecil,
If I send you Bill Clinton, will you send me a dollar?
On second thought, never mind. He's probably not worth that much!
