Good Mornin' Y'all! Up and caffienatin'. *YAWN* 'Tis 40 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 62 and windy today. Windy it is!

So, I did not see the MMP up and decided to take a chance and make one. I have nuttin' of substance to post except to say Happy President's Day to all the Amurrkin Mumpers. Some folks have it as a holiday and some don't. I do. For the first time evah in my life. Da bear has never had one of these strange Federal holidays off before.

Anywho, here it is. Have fun!

Happy Monday!

I don't have a holiday cos I'm neither American nor in the US, but it's my first day in a new job which so far looks reasonable - that's a Holy Day.

Happy Presidents' Day to those of you who celebrate it and hi peeps to everybody else.

I'm new. Not to the board, of course, but to the MMP. I never post here, it always seems like a secret special club and I don't belong. But I couldn't sleep because the dog was whining all night, the cats were cleaning themselves on my bed all night, and the neighbor teenaged boy is having an all-night marathon sex session with his live-in girlfriend. So here it is 4:43 and I am up.

It's a holiday here for everyone but school kids. They have their two days off at the end of this week for Rodeo Days. Yes, all the schools shut down for a rodeo. Oh well, delayed gratification, then a 4-day weekend- woot.

Nah, it's only that most Americans are asleep. It's lunchtime here but us newbies don't know where to go eat yet...

Amazing how fast people went out the door at the stroke of 1pm.

Welcome, Alice! I, for one, have just dragged my carcass to the computer, but to be fair, I've already showered and dressed and heated up some leftover pizza for breakfast. Back in the olden days when I still worked, I wouldn't get to post to the MMP till afternoon. This is better. Anyway, welcome to our silly little group. We're not secret, but we are special, altho some are more special than others... and they know who they are. ;)

Nava - hope you like the new job, altho your stories are much more entertaining when you hate your boss and/or coworkers. :D

My day = not much. It snowed over night, but the grass is still visible, and the pavement is just wet, plus it's already above freezing. I expect before sunset, there will be no white left on the ground. Not that it matters - it's a holiday here anyway, so traffic will be minimal.

And for those of you who were worried about my report in the last MMP - the new aquarium heaters are working fine and all fishies are alive. I know how much you care.

That's all for now - don't wanna give you too much of a good thing. Happy Monday!!!!

Welcome Alice! Don't worry, we don't bite--unless you ask. ;)

Blurf in progress. I have a dentist appointment in a little while. I thought I'd have to play taxi again today, but fortunately work schedules interfered. I'll have to cancel my coffee date this afternoon in the interest of saving gas. This is actually not a bad thing since there's a lot of Little Things I need to take care of today.

Weird, huh? It sounds like the first day at a new school. Hope you found out where they disappeared to, Nava.

Welcome, Alice! It's totally not a secret club. Everyone is welcome to contribute. Chocolate love offerings go to FCM and beerverages go to a variety of menfolk. :D Hope you fell asleep after you posted.

Am up to get ready and make sure I can give the electrician the tour of the dead circuit. Woo hoo.

Hugs.

The perpetual road construction hell just north of here ate a tractor cab yesterday morning. Resultant fire melted the beams of the overpass on the third level--looks like we get to find new ways onto the highway for a while.

(Be warned, Alice, there are nicknames here. Some are made up spontaneously, some are long-term nicks. Usually context makes it pretty clear; yell if it doesn't. Well, don't yell, but do feel free to ask. :))

Back later with updates on my fascinating day. :D

Additional hugs.

President's Day typically is one of the easiest commute days of the year, kinda ironic for a holiday that's got "dent" in it.

Afternoon, all! And welcome, Alice - you don't have to worry about killing the MMP as we have a resident medic who'll come along and revive it for you.

Busy weekend was busy, today is turning out to be just the same but at work rather than at home. I have a load of things I need to get done before Friday when I'm off on my travels. Having got through the weeeknd's "to-do" list, I now have a mini-list for each night of the week just to make sure I don't forget the essentials like finding my passport and recharging my Kindle...

Nava, much as I hope you enjoy the new job, I am also sort of hoping for fun stories about mad bosses and idiot co-workers. It can't be just me who ends up with the likes of Tin Knickers!

Last night I did a very bad thing.

I stayed up entirely too late watching four episodes of Downton Abbey. :o But, you see, it says that they're going to be taken down on March 6 so I HAVE to watch them all before that! :D

Now I'm getting ready for breakfast and taking some pictures of my stuff to send off with my applications. Fortunately the sun is shining so I can take the pictures outside even if it is a bit chilly.

Also, Hi Alice! :waves furiously: :)

I tried irking from home today, but the project I'm working on does not lend itself to such an endeavor. I'm updating a rather involved spreadsheet that requires multiple large screens, which only exist at the orifice. I thought I could manage by doing it on multiple laptops at home. So, I's at irk anyway. :(

Goodness, I don't know what's wrong with me! Before 9:30, I emptied and refilled the dishwasher, cleaned the kitchen counters, vacuumed, including moving some furniture, watered all my plants, cleaned the cat box, and hauled a load down for laundry. Oh, and I made an appointment to have my glasses done - tomorrow afternoon, I should have a clear view of life again. Yay!!

Now I think I'll assume the knit position. I finished the afghan last night and started a hat. Off I go...

This......

There really ought to be a law against Mondays.

Oh because I forgot - Congrats again janis_and_c0!

Last night the cornish games hens were delish! mr ems "ate like a viking" as he put it and pretty much sucked the bones clean on both birdies. The glaze was a huge hit so we will be doing them again if I see them on sale soon.

And because Taters asked so nice for the glaze recipe here goes:

2 table spoons of good Balsamic Vinegar
2-3 Big dollops of Apricot preserves (depends on how big your birds are)
small pat of butter
Good splash of Cointreau (orange juice also works)

Melt the butter, add in the orange juice/liquor then add the preserves. Heat slowly until the preserves are melted then add in the Balsamic and mix together.

I got the birds roasting for about 20 mins before I added the first glaze. The Balsamic keeps it from being overly sweet. I just seasoned the birds with salt, pepper, garlic powder and thyme. A little bit of cayenne would be good in the glaze also I think.

Later peeps!

Yeah, it's hard to see the fork against all those beads.

I walked out of the dentist with a suspicious possible cavity. I was able to put the appointment for that off until April because I am po'. Now I need to catch up on a few things before I play Skyrim. I had the same problem when I started playing Oblivion. Those games tend to eat my soul and my free time. Good morning. I am up. The dogs have done their business and have been fed and watered.

Hubby is at work and I'm am enjoying the peace and quiet. I don't know why, but I feel like I've been run over. I am so tired and I don't have any right to be. I know I didn't sleep well at all and had many disturbing dreams; none of which I remember.

Not much on the books for today. Laundry and some little things. I did take chicken breasts out early this morning to defrost. They shall be prepared for dinner tonight.

Thanks for sharing the recipe, ems. I can't wait to give it a try.

Welcome, Alice. I hope you like it here.

I think this is my second (perhaps third?) MMP ever, so I'll just sneak in behind Alice here...

I had a really productive day planned, but my 9am phone call cancelled (at 9:47, natch), leaving me sitting around sort of thinking about maybe possibly eventually doing some work, after I've finished reading the internet and trolling around Amazon for things to add to the baby registry. At least I know my accountant won't cancel her appointment at 1pm, so I do have a deadline for eventually getting out of my pajamas.

Happy Monday to everyone with days off, and curses for those of you who have to work (what are you doing, gotpasswords? I'm imagining you sitting all alone in a darkened bank, twiddling your thumbs).

Yes, the picture is too busy. Additionally, the beads make the fork look like plastic. However, the fork is coooooool.

President's Day - meh. I have it off but I have every Monday off because I'm a class scheduling genius! :D However, 2 of the 3 places I need to get medical records from are closed today which is annoying because now I'll have to miss my Chem lecture tomorrow to get the records.

I have come to the conclusion that the headache is caused school because I avoided homework all weekend and the headache got much better. I've been working on homework for a few hours now and the headache is getting worse. Is there an official diagnosis and treatment for Climatology generated pain?

Still, I will go for the MRI to make the school doctor happy because she doesn't seem to think that Climatology causes month-long headaches. Pfft. Don't they teach anything in medical school these days?

Today being President's day reminded me of a stupid holiday story I have, which some of you may have heard before.

Back in 2002, I was at work, all by my lonesome. See, it was Patriot's Day and we had it off but we needed someone to man the phones. Since I had no kids or life, it was decided that I'd do it. All day long I got phone calls from pissed off customers who couldn't understand why we were closed. One guy said, "your damn football team finally wins the Super Bowl and you have a state holiday for it?!?!?!" Not being a football fan, it took me a few minutes to figure out what the hell he was talking about. He didn't believe me when I told him we were celebrating the other Patriots.

Swampy - Good, it's about damn time! You had the refund sent here, right?

Sweetie came home last night after working 50 hours in 4 days and spending 2 nights in hotel rooms in two different states. He was tired. I was tired too because I spent the whole day cleaning the house (he was THRILLED.....then he started complaining that he'd have nothing to do on his days off). So we went to bed at 8pm. I'm amazed the dogs let us. I woke up at 4:30 am and he was out in the living room playing Star Trek Online. Apparently having to get up super early all weekend for crew calls caused him to get up at 3:30 this morning. Poor guy. At least today is a short 10 hour day and then he has 3 days off.

Afternoon, all. Welcome, Alice!

First sort of bad night but my MiL is here so there's two and a half adults versus four kids, which is a good ratio.

Very tired. I should figure out what we're having for dinner and give the newborns a cruel, evil, mean bath. I will not be loved anymore.

The girls are up 125 grams each since Friday, so they're gaining nicely. We're pleased.

Happy Monday y'all! :)

Just had lunch. Gonna make some soap in a little bit. Right now I'm considering wandering over to the eye doctor to have them peer into my right eye. Wifey poked me in the eye with her finger this morning as we were thrashing our way out from under the bed covers. It's still sore and my vision is kinda blurry 5 hours later.
Of course the vision in that eye is always kinda blurry anyway. It's the same traItorous eye that tried to self-distruct a couple of years ago and cost me several thousands of dollars to have the retina lasered back into place. It's not my favorite body part these days.
Anyway, I'm sure if I do go in they'll look at it and say yeah, it's scratched, but there's really not much we can do about it. It'll heal up on it's own. Just keep your weight off it for 72 hours and pay the girl $200.00 on the way out."

Glad the little'ens are doing well LiLi, but I'm surprised they don't like baths. All our littles loved splashing in the water.

I think I'll go fix the terlet. The arm that raises the flapper thingie (technical term) rusted in half last night. I think I have a spare in the garage. Yeah, I keep everything. :p

Later.

Evenin' all!

To my total suprise, even though I got up ludicrously late (mid afternoon no less), the doctor actually not only gave me an appointment, but actually came to the house to see me! Almost immediately! Was expecting it to be a ehhhh.... call back tomorrow and we'll think about it.. but nope! So I have a nice new sick note, and lots of lovely drugs. I like my doctor. :)

Still really need to get some kind of habit for sleep, this is getting most silly. I might have to just emigrate to somewhere where the local clock matches my internal clock, if there is such a a place.

Glad to hear tiny ones are getting slightly less tiny LiLi! I know I lost over a pound in my first two weeks, freaked everyone out! Been stuffin' my face happily since though, so that's ok. I was a big, fat, late babby.

Happy new week everyone!

In my experience, they do like after they can sit up, but all our newborns have hated water.

I'm the adult half. I'm here, but sleep-deprived, recovering from surgery, and nursing about six hours a day. I am not as useful as an adult who has a functioning brain and is allowed to lift more than ten pounds.

Yeah, I'm home from men's night at the church house. 'Twas a good time made better by the addition of cheesecake. I also managed to herd a group of the men to set up tables for tomorrow's Shrove Tuesday shindig. Heh. I had spoken with our Junior Warden, a loverly and wonderful lady by the name of Eloise, who gave me the count for tomorrow along with the number of tables and chairs to set up. I began my herdin' by sayin', "Eloise says we need fourteen tables, six chairs to the table, set up for tomorrow night." Within 15 minutes the tables and chairs were set up. So, I have decided that from now own when I want folks to do sump'n at the church house I shall begin with "Eloise says." Them's magic words apparently! :D

Added recipe to blog. That sounds yummy. I have some chicken thighs in the freezer. maybe I'll make a couple of them with a glaze.

Busy, busy, busy day off.

Electrician came to give me an estimate and fixed the problem - for free!!!! He didn't have much to do today, apparently, and wandered through the circuit a couple of times until he found a piece that was broken (someone had fixed a spot really poorly). He used part of an extension cord to patch the spot (since he does estimates, he doesn't carry much with him) and is supposed to e-mail me the estimate for rewiring the circuit. But, yay for electricity in the whole house!!!

Meanwhile, I took the living room apart and cleaned it and also started in on the kitchen. Also, cleaned some in the basement.

Also, went for a couple of walks. Wanted to do my taxes today, but didn't get there.

Read, but didn't retain much.

Should be asleep already....

BBBobbio, of course you're not the only perv Mumper, but you're definitely in the top tier. After all, a request for pics isn't always a request for that kind of pic... :p

I tried to fall back to sleep after FCD left for work, but no dice. Today shall include erranding - I've got 4 bags of FCD wardrobe rejects to deliver to a local thrift store. Some are items that don't fit, some are items he decided he hated shortly after he got them, most are barely worn, so the supported charity should do well.

I've also got an appointment at 1030 to get the new lenses for my glasses ground and installed. I'll be so glad to be rid of these scratchy nasties. And I'll be going into my 3rd year with these frames - I just haven't been able to find any that I like better. Since the skinny square frames are all the rage, there are hardly any specs with large lenses that aren't icky. And I don't want the skinny lenses - I want as big a field of view as I can get. So I'll stick with what I have as long as I can.

What else - I have a $10 Target card, so I may go there just to see what $10 will buy. And FCD wants cauliflower with supper, so I need to get some of that. Maybe I'll think about getting a haircut also...

Then when I come home, I can work on the scarf I'm almost halfway thru. Busy busy me! :D

Happy Tuesday!!

FCM sorry to hear the ending to the story. I was off the past 2 days, now getting ready to head back to Cahrlottesville to finish the Huguely trial.

I admit I always cringe when I see a page or hear of some breaking news where I know people live. I remember you said you had visited a marina, so of course the worst comes to mind.

Oi, congo, now that I see you...

last week you said that your problem with Chemistry wasn't so much with the chemical stuff as with "word problems". I know it's no consolation, but basically the students I tutored were divided into "people who can't figure out how to go from words to equations" (but who could solve the equations once they had those) and "people who can't figure out how to go from words to equations, but who also can't do algebra at all"; yep, none of the students who came looking for tutoring in Chemistry needed tutoring in Chemistry, it was always Math (my coworkers had the same experience). If your 'only' problem is the first part, you're actually in a relatively good position. I'm glad you've got good TAs, hopefully they'll be able to walk you through the steps of translating words to equations. Remember to take notes on how they do that translation.

Guys, I need to ask someone else if this is weird. A woman just came in here, a woman I never met. She saw a picture of a black baby in some promotional materials, and said,

"I love black babies. I really want a black baby."

She is whiter than white.

I really found it weird as hell, a professional woman saying something like this to practical strangers, and it made me a little uncomfortable, too. Not uncomfortable as in "I will never let her live it down" but just a little awkward. I didn't really know what to say. "Good for you"?

Hi, 'mika!
Do you work in a fertility clinic or an adoption agency?
If a fertility clinic, then say "Here's our catalog"
If an adoption agency "Fill out the application and we'll see what we can do"

We're a charity! I kind of just went back to concentrating on my work. She wasn't here to see me anyway.

Just...how do anyone think that's an OK thing to say? She also mentioned how her husband - who is "a white boy" - her exact words - would be "very concerned, of course" if such a thing happened.

So in the space of three lines she's brought up race in multiple ways, adultery, and the idea of bearing a child from a black man who is not her husband. The trifecta! :)

To say it's been an unusual week at work would be a bit understated. For over a decade I've been involved with exploration efforts at one of the world's largest oil companies through a well known oil services company. Apparently my rate recently increased dramatically and a VP decided to opt for three replacement people and a rate cut instead of renewing me. No problem, my company immediately signed me to a long term contract at a competing large multinational. Yesterday the managers here found out and they went ballistic. They knew my value and apparently shit hit the fan, meetings hastily convened, etc. So now the VP is calling, saying we'll sign! It's been a nice place to work and I love my coworkers and the job, but no, I think I'll go ahead and go with the other major. Tough call, but I think the right one. Careful what you ask for, right?

Home at last. I have new glasses that aren't all scratched up - so this is what the world looks like!!! Erranding was good. I dropped off 4 large bags of clothes at the thrift store in Leonardtown that supports an organization working with the mentally disabled in the county, so yay for that. Then I went to Target with my $10 gift card and got a little crock pot that cost me all of $1.65, so yay for that, too.

I had time to kill before my eye appt - next stop was Joann's where I looked at fabric with an eye to replacing our living room curtains. Unfortunately, I was pressed for time, so I didn't get any, but there were a couple of possible candidates. On to Bayshore Eye Care, where I knitted in semi-blindness while my new lenses were made and installed, after which I had the tawdry parking lot encounter with BBBobbio. Immediately afterwards, he rushed away - some silliness about lunch and work, so I called my sweetie and we met for marginally edible sushi, which I paid for to assuage the gnawing guilt of sleeze in the parking lot. ;) On the way home, I made one final stop at the grocery store, and now I'm home.

I've got a fire started because it's grey and windy and winter-like outside, and I want warm and cozy. I've got a chickie thawing for its date with the rotisserie. Life is good.

Mika - it takes all kinds to make the world, doesn't it? You just lucked out and encountered one of the more, um, interesting ones... eeeeeesh

I really should do some chores, but I really don't feel like it. Maybe I'll knit in front of the TV till I figure it out.

"I want a black baby." Really? That's quite weird. I think in general black or Asian babies are cuter than white ones, but it's a generalization, and I've seen quite-ugly and quite-beautiful babies of all sorts of different colours.

I believe, for example, that Elizabeth was gray when she was born. She's a nice healthy fuschia now. :D

Bob and doggio, I will remember that sticking boobs in mouths is a good way to cheer you up. I won't do it for you, mind you. I'll just remember it. Pervs. :D

When I watched the C-section in action, that girl was kinda gray, started screaming, and turned pink almost instantaneously. That was cool to watch, and I'm glad I got to see it.

Good god, I have nightmares that I have to start paying for daycare again. That in itself is birth control. Could you imagine if your kids had babies and you had to raise them? Start all over? Ah, hell naw! All of my boys say they don't want kids, but seeing as how they're not the most responsible critters... we'll see about that.

Let me tell you about the hotel I'm in this week...
it's a 4-star hotel, but has cheaper rates than many 2-stars in the same area. How do you manage that? By not including in the rate all those things which customers actually value. The buffet breakfast is 18.30€ - lunch at any of the cafeterias in the train station (some of them quite good) is half of that! Intenet access paid by the minute; there's a printer for use by customers (pay per page). I'm actually quite surprised the TVs aren't coin-operated.
The closet is walk-in, but the light can't be switched off except by pulling the keycard out of the room's main switch. At least its door closes well.
The bathroom was a surprise. Fixed showerhead, the curtain is a curtain and the WC doesn't have the half-load/full-load function which has been ubiquitous in Spain for years. I'm guesstimating the last time the hotel got any construction work done must have been in the late 80s.

Another giggle is the thought of swampy in the park with a baby carriage, watching his bebehs playing in the sandbox. Wouldn't he be adorable?? :D

BBBobbio, hope you get a least a few weeks of use from the uniforms before you're swimming in them. Near as I can figure, FCD didn't want them because they're not black. I bought them to get a little color into his wardrobe, and I even let him pick out the colors, but obviously, I misunderstood the power of the black side. I'm not kidding - if you look in his closet, it's full of black, dark grey, dark marroon, dark green... oddly enough, no dark blue. I don't think he owns a single white shirt, except for the t-shirt that's got a big hole in the front...

Yanno, when you start your day by scrubbing the shower stall, it can only get better, right? And when you can see how grubby your shower stall is even without your glasses, it's pretty bad... In fact, I scrubbed the shower, the shower doors, the toilet, and the sink. Then I scrubbed me, because it was a nasty chore. I've had a bowl of cereal and I'm mostly caffeinated, so now I need to haul the laundry baskets downstairs and do a couple of loads.

The kitchen needs to be tidied, and I've actually considered dusting. I hate hate hate dusting, but it's getting pretty bad in here, so I may just take out a rag and have at it. STOP ME BEFORE I CHORE AGAIN!!!!!!!

Sounds like a good move, lieu. It's almost never a good idea to stay once someone has decided it might be OK to show you the door, no matter how uninformed the decision makers are.

*bookmarks this thread, in preparation of the arrival of MBG's first grandkid*I laughed at this as well. :D

I have been to mass with Local Best Friend and her daughter, who is now 4 1/2. She's getting big enough to ask questions about everything that's going on, which is very cute and very challenging. (She knows when she's allowed to talk and when she needs to be quiet, so we can be quietly amused.) I'm pretty sure she's been to church on Ash Wednesday every year, but this was the first where she got ashes. She was intrigued. I made the mistake of asking her what shape the ashes on our foreheads were and she said "well, they're kind of shaped like a cactus." We were in the car by then, so it was OK that her mom and I broke out in giggles.

I'm in the "happy to have nieces, nephews and godchildren" camp. LBF's kids are plenty locally and Faraway Best Friend's kids are lovely long-distance kids, although they're not really kids anymore. Faraway Goddaughter might be coming to live with me for a bit later this year (or early next) while she's figuring out what she wants to study. That will be fun.

I'm relieved to hear that LiLi wants babies. Cuz...she has a bunch. :D And, I hope there are little mmmmmmmmmmmmms sooner rather than later.

Gonna watch something online for a bit, then it's off to sleepy bye.

Hugs all.

I won't get to go shopping for eye patches after all. Which would have necessitated shopping for a sword, and a parrot. And I don't really care for parrots, so it's just as well.

I'm glad your eye will be fine, Bumba.

ems, I've just had my time with babies and in a different phase of my life.

I managed to slog through another day of work. One more day to go, and then I get to hang with my baby sis who is in town this week. I'm really looking forward to it. We didn't grow up together, but we are more alike in our attitudes and how we think and than the sister I did grow up with. It's kind of weird. We always have a great time together.

It would be awesome if she and her husband could get stationed up here. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will happen.

I think I'm going to head upstairs and watch some television in a few. Hopefully, the replacement lamp for our TV in the great room will be here in tomorrow or Friday. I miss sitting in my comfy chair while watching TV.

Bumba - you can still wear an eye patch - as a fashion statement!!! Just don't get one with rhinestones, because the backings will just scratch your eye all over again!

Just waking up, sipping on some coffee. We didn't clock out until midnight, a pretty good day in a shop with overtime es verboten! going on right now.

Will have to spend a few hours packing the truck up. In my rush to get out last night I didn't toss the seafood pizza our reporter ordered (complete with clam shells). I am hoping it got cold enough to be a refrigerator last night...

When the shit started to hit the fan at 6:45 last night we had a number of technical hurdles to leap. It took about 45 minutes to get settled in, then when I had a moment I happened to glance at the forecast and radar, and saw what looked like some light rain about an hour out. I went and warned the crews (about 40 cameras - pretty damn big clusterfuck even in DC standards) and people reluctantly started moving for their protective gear.

I have not seen a downpour that big in the middle of a news event in years. It was like somebody was on top of the courthouse with a dozen firehoses and a vendetta. Seriously, the only time we shoot in weather like that is covering a hurricane.

I am guessing I will support a crew working on a final wrap up story today. Charlottesville has been nice but I can say I am glad it's over. I need a little humble abode time.

I'm gonna go post a bunch of pictures on Facebook then I will come back and link them.

Good morning all!

I'm feeling a bit of the winter malaise. It's the right time, February, and everything is in the doldrums. I'm doing the right stuff to cheer myself up - I went to Joanne's yesterday and bought some more jewelry making supplies, and a banana plant kit they had for $5!!! I also found they had some scrapbooks on sale so I bought three. I don't scrapbook as a rule but I'm finding for vacations it might be a nice idea, so I'm going to do one for our D.C. trip last year, one for Vegas, and I plan to start one for hiking....this way I might be more inclined to go hiking more often. We went last weekend and had a perfectly lovely time frolicking in the snow.

But still...when will winter be over??????????? It hasn't even been dreadfully cold but I am tired of it.

Not sure when yet, but they've put it through as an 'urgent'. Eek. Not wholly sure what they're planning to do- I'm not sure if I want to either... Will be worth it if it means I can actually get out of the house and do stuff again.

Filbert - you have my sympathy. I had cortisone injections in my back in 2005 and they didn't work, hurt like a mo-fo, and caused my CSF to elevate enough to make my optic discs bulge. In other words, they are the cause of my current headache (literally). I hope yours are a success and not too painful.

So, I had the MRI yesterday and I have my doctor's appointment tomorrow. The MRI will show if there are any masses in my head but they wont show if my problem is still increased CSF pressure. My doc will have to decide on Friday whether or not I have enough symptoms to need to see a neurologist.

I started taking the acetazolamide on Tuesday night. Since then I have developed the two most common side effects (tingling fingers - or tingling hands and fingers in my case, and altered sense of taste - particularly with carbonated drinks). The tingling doesn't hurt but it is definitely annoying.

My headache does get better for a few hours after I take the pill (which is an indicator that CSF pressure is the cause of the headache) but I'm only supposed to take it twice a day and it definitely doesn't last 12 hours.

The pain hasn't gotten bad enough for an Imitrex, though I could have used one a week ago.

I have decided to stop going to my astronomy lectures. I have tried to learn something from my professor but it's just not happening. I could learn more from 10 minutes on Wikipedia. Apparently there have been a lot of complaints from this semester's class and the rating on ratemyprofessor.com is supposedly very low. The only thing that happens in my lecture is that I get pissed off that I'm wasting my financial aid on the class and then I try to get some homework done for another class. It's all very frustrating. Luckily she doesn't take attendance and she has no clue who shows up from day to day. Additionally, class participation isn't part of my grade, which is lucky because she's too deaf to hear us when we try to ask questions.

congodwarf
02-23-2012, 02:57 PM

He uses salsa in place of eggs and bread crumbs and anything else you might mix in. It has great flavor and salsa's way healthier than bread and eggs.

Dinner tonight will be.......water.

Sweetie is making a brisket and even the smell is making me queasy. I'm iffy on brisket on a good day but I'm really not feeling well right now so it's totally hitting me the wrong way. Just seconds ago, I thought of something I wanted to ask here, and the instant I opened this thread, I forgot it. dammit! I feel like that episode of Married With Children where Kelly would lose one fact for every new fact she crammed into her brain... maybe I just need caffeine.

Happy Firday! It's Seafood Extravaganza day at McKay's - or whatever they call their big seafood sale - and I'm going to get some crab legs for tonight's supper, just because. They only have this sale a couple of times a year, and it's not all that cheap, but, hey, crab legs!! :D So that's my chore for today - a trip to Leonardtown. And some laundry, too. And the dishes I didn't do last night because I didn't want to.

I thought the stroganoff was kinda bland, but FCD liked it, which surprised me. He generally hates bland food. What killed me was that I looked up 5 or 6 recipes and they were all very different. We're talking major ingredient differences - like my MIL's recipe, which used cream of some crap soup - or one that didn't use any onions at all!! Weird. Still, we had a nice visit with our daughter, and both of us are going to her school on Monday to judge the 6th grade Science Fair, because we're nice, dammit!

Ok, so there are a few of us eating kind of a business lunch. One is very poser, wannabee food snob, another is this guy I know who's just a funny guy. The snob lady starts talking about French food and how she travels there all the time for the cuisine (which she keeps mispronouncing calling it "ho-tay"), which is all pretty funny because my friend is in reality also a gourmet chef and major foodie.

I see him getting kind of amused at her pretentiousness until at one point he interrupts her, giving me a "watch this" look. She was in the middle of telling us that as much as she'd love to overindulge that the heavy creams and sauces destroy her diets, etc..

He says oh yes he knows that feeling then asks her if she's ever tried the (insert snooty French word which his look tells me is something he completely made up and which probably translates as "puked in cat litter aged in Chardonnay"

Oh yes, she titters, and asks his opinion of it. At which point he says he enjoys it, but my word I've never seen so much margarine in one place ever before in his life.

Get it? Snooty, heavy food..... Margarine?

Hell, I thought it was funny

Nava - Astronomy professor frequently turns her hearing aid off in class because it is noisy and irritating. I'm not sure which is more irritating - her hearing aid or her not hearing a damn thing anyone says to her. She keeps forgetting to swap between the overhead projector and the computer so whatever she is trying to show isn't up on the big screen. We yell at her that it's not up but generally she's done explaining whatever it was before she realizes that we can't see it. So, she swaps over and then goes to the next item without repeating the one we just missed.

I was woken up by an Iggy foot on my eyeball. He actually managed to step on my eye hard enough to separate my sleeping eyelids. If I get pink eye from his dirty little doggy foot I'm gonna kill him.

It snewed last night! We might actually have 2 cm of snow out there! I think it's the most snow we've had since our Halloween snowstorm.

My grandma got a pacemaker after passing out and getting a nice big gash on the back of her head. Her 'oh-by-the-way' moment was when we realized that continually passing out was the reason why she gave up driving but never told anyone that there was a problem.

Ya gotta love Alzheimer's. Thank goodness I was downstairs this morning when my grandma decided she was going to throw some old food outside into the swamp/surrounding area for the cats to eat. It was those long tube popsicles (encased in plastic). Our new neighbors would have just loved to have popsicles floating around in their water. (Normally she throws out old bread and stuff like that.)

So, my grandpa thinks that he just has a cold. I'm not sure what my grandma thinks is going on. Apparently CHF is very treatable but it sounds like they're going to have to switch back to a low sodium or no sodium diet again (they were doing this until Alz set in and then they just started eating whatever they wanted). This all means that I am most likely going to have to start preparing their meals for them as I'm certain that they won't know how to do this by themselves.

Pleasant surprise last night - I was issued a new camera at work, first one in 8 years. A huge upgrade in technology, I have switched from tape to digital media. Spent 5 hours last night reading the manual with the camera next to me, discovering every setting, tweaking every option. It really is a game changer for me work-wise. Everyone else in town upgraded years ago. Will hopefully put it in service tonight.

Just got back from the doctor. I got my neurology referral. I also got an ophthalmology referral. Apparently the MRI showed blahblahblahblahblah, which frequently shows up on MRIs of people with pseudotumor, which is what the school doc thinks I have. He told me to keep taking the Diamox, which does actually seem to be helping reduce the severity and duration of the headaches. Unfortunately it's also screwing with my sense of taste, making my hands tingle annoyingly, and causing bad lethargy. And on that note, I'm going back to bed. We need a yawning smiley.

eta - my doc has a crapload of clocks on his walls - all from drug companies. I didn't realize that they weren't actually running. Today I noticed that the one in the exam room was wrong and I asked if he knew it was wrong. He said, "Oh yes, that's the 4-hour erection clock". Mooooooom. I think I make pretty good stroganoff.. my recipie:

1 lb Ground Beasht
1 pkt onion soup mix
woostershire sauce
black pepper
parsley
can mushrooms
1 1/2 T ketchup
3/4 - 1/1/2 C sour cream
1 pkg egg noodles
Butter
salt
1/4 c white wine (optional)

Cook beasht on med heat with onion soup mix & a little water, stirring occasionally. When cooked, add w. sauce, pepper, parsley, shrooms (partially drained) & ketchup. turn down & simmer on low. Cook noodles & drain. add butter & pinch of salt to noodles. Add beasht mixture to noodles & stir well. Mix in sour cream & serve (. I haven't added the wine, but I would like to, Add when simmering beasht.)

(by the way, Short Drum. I use a honey mustard glaze on my meatloaf. Wayyyyyyy better than ketchup.)

Sticky Altzheimers sucks. CHF sucks. WIll be praying for your Grandpa. *hug*

: throwing confetti : :D:D

I had a nice short day at work - met my supplier came home checked my e-mail answered some random questions then decided screw it and logged off from work. I have also done 2 loads of laundry and unloaded the dishwasher since I got back. I am now going to go gas up the car as we are going to visit mr ems dad tomorrow if mr ems gets enough done at work today so that he doesn't have to go in tomorrow. I am also going to buy milk and broccoli and vodka while I am out.

Supper tonight is angel hair anglio olio with whole wheat pasta, a side of the aforementioned broccoli and I have some spicy chicken sausages that will go in the pasta also.

This week's almost over. Thank God.

What was major but is now decidedly minor: older bro moved in with us after being laid off. Agreement was Dad would move into Mom's bedroom, and older bro would take Dad's old bedroom. Except on the day of moving stuff, Dad threw a hissy fit, said we'd never discussed it with him (we had), didn't care what he thought (we do), and his needs were being ignored (they aren't).

Conclusion? I gave up my bedroom and moved in with my mom. The limited space means all my books and computers go downstairs in the "library" (a 10x10 space with no HVAC and chancy lighting). Stuff has been moved but not put away.

That would have been enough.

Then, Wednesday, when I'm trying to give Dad his 1 p.m. meds, take his blood pressure, and discuss lunch with him, he suddenly went from a little cranky but cooperative to outright hostile, yelly, and incoherent. Didn't want me touching him. Wanted his lunch. Couldn't put words in order, couldn't find words, couldn't say 'yes' or 'no' when I offered him choices.

If it had been anyone else, I'd have known immediately what was going on, but I'm so used to Dad being disagreeable and short-tempered that I kept trying to find out what he wanted to eat for lunch. Then Mom called, I explained what was going on (while Dad was trying to yell at me and getting more frustrated, because he couldn't put words together).

Upshot? Dad was showing symptoms of a stroke. I got to call 911 and coordinate Dad, brother, me, five EMTs, and a microsecond grab of all the stuff I thought we might need to go to the hospital. And the only reason Dad agreed to go is because the EMTs were all male, and they very solemnly told him that his speech was very slurred, and he should let them take him in to have it checked out.

*sigh*

Six hours in the ER while they try to get him admitted. A CAT scan that showed nothing. Hours with his blood pressure over 190 (which is emergency time for us) and spiking as high as 225, an absolutely terrifying number, that the ER doc just shrugged over. Mom drives home from work. We finally get Dad in, brother goes home, I stay a little longer, Mom stays for the night.

Next day, another CAT scan and an ultrasound of Dad's carotid arteries (the source of the clots he likes to flip off randomly). Also, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, two sets of volunteers, and, I think, a Dixieland marching band and traveling reptile show.

Verdict? Trans-Ischemic Attack - doctor speak for "we think there was a stroke, but there's no evidence of a clot, so the clot fairy must have zapped it." Dad got released yesterday. His mood is unstable. His speech goes from fine to slurred and back to fine. His short term memory is now fried. "Trans" my ass.

By last night, he had trouble remembering he'd been in the hospital and what for. Considering how completely pissed off he was at me for calling 911, I'm mostly neutral on this development. Last night, he comes upstairs to report that some person had ruined his mattress by pouring water all over the middle of it, and he was wet, and he was unhappy.

*sigh*

I got yelled at a whole lot for doing my best to keep my dad alive and intact. I got ignored by medical staff when I tried to tell them that, no, 197/90 was not an acceptable blood pressure for my dad, between his atherosclerosis and his aortic abdominal aneurysm. So, I'm feeling pretty fragile right now.

Good thing was, I saw my new counselor, she totally validates me, and has instructed me to start setting boundaries to protect myself.

We'll see.

Today I ran ambulance duty, and have a tale worth reporting for the first time in a long while. This is the condensed story of the Firday revolving door crew.

I started out with Hanna and Stacy. Hanna is the former assistant chief, and was the crew chief today. Stacy is a student paramedic and the opening driver of the day. After doing the checkout and unit stock, we headed out for brekkies, which we shared with the crew from the other station. Lots of war stories were told, with the best one from Stacy.

"Last night, we were called to the IHOP by the deputies for an unresponsive male in the yard. Our patient was awake when we arrived, and reeked of alcohol. He complained of pain in multiple locations, and would not shut up.

"After we got him in the unit, I had Bryan check his sugar. So Bryan asked for a finger to stick. Our drunk looked long time at his left hand, but never offered one, so Bryan suggested the ring finger. The patient objected, saying he'll do the selecting. Finally, he offered his very grody middle finger. Bryan scrubbed and scrubbed to get clean skin to lance when the patient pulled it away, stuck it under his nose, and sniffed. Bryan pulled the hand, swabbed it again and the patient stuck it to his nose once again.

Bryan: "What are you doing? Every time you put that finger to your nose, I have to swab it, and I haven't even drawn blood yet."

Drunken PT: "I'm making sure it still smells."

Bryan: "What's so important about the smell?"

Drunk PT: "I had that finger up my girlfriend's ass a couple hours ago."

After breakfast we returned to the station. Stacy left, Hannah became crew chief, Eva came on as the driver, and David joined as the other crew member.

Our first call was in Calvert County, for a cardiac call at the nursing home. It was a non-event, because there were two calls and three ambulances. We were sent home, but were diverted to a four car chain reaction wreck. Of the five people involved, two were injured enough to warrant transport, and only one of them wanted to go because of lower back pain. The transport was mostly unremarkable, but I got my first chance since joining this squad to direct patient care. It's a warmup to becoming the crew chief myself.

The rub is that when we got to the hospital and started unloading her, I split my pants. They were old, so they didn't wear quite right, and instead of jumping out of the box, I stepped and the area under the zipper gave up the ghost. I picked up the habit of jumping from the unit from my fireman days, because by jumping and landing with feet together when you hit the ground there is less chance of twisting an ankle than if you step.

Back at the station and forty dollars later, I had new pants out of the uniform stockroom. Eva left, and Don was the new driver, the fourth change to the crew today.

The next call was an attempted suicide by overdose, and it too was overdispatched, so we got to leave early. On the road back to quarters, we were dispatched to an unspecified medical emergency, which turned out to be a 92 year old woman who took her own blood pressure and panicked when it said 176/82, because she didn't quite understand what the numbers meant. If I was that old and had that for a BP, I'd be in phenomenal physical shape.

Our last call was for one of our frequent flyers, a very sweet woman with nearly as many medical issues as VWife. If she's lucky, it's just a nasty infection, but I'm afraid she's developing gangrene in a leg ulcer. Phew, whatever it was, it was nasty-smelling.

When I ran last on Sunday last weekend, it was snowing. Five days later, it was 72, with severe thunderboomers and a tornadie watch. Welcome to late winter in MerryLande…

Congratulations on the new camera Tugig! Sweetie just got a whole set of new cameras on his truck and the usual freelancers are keeping it a secret so the other guys wont suddenly want to work on his truck. It's cute to see 5 20-year veteran cameramen getting so excited.

Speaking of Sweetie, he has the whole weekend off. I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with him. I can't remember the last time he had both days off. My best friend wants us to go with her and her husband to "piss-off the blue-hairs". In other words, she wants us to play bingo at Foxwoods with them. I've never played bingo (except on Pogo). I think it would be fun.

So, I took a nap when I got home from the doctor - a 4 hour nap. When I got up at 4pm, I saw that I had a message and assuming it was my doctor's office assistant telling me when my neurology consult is, I listened to it. It was my best friend. Apparently Sweetie called her because he's worried about me (mentally and physically) and he just doesn't understand medical stuff (She's a medical assistant and an on-hiatus nursing student). She was annoyed that I hadn't told her what was going on (seriously? I've been posting regular updates on facebook!!! :D). It seems that neither of them can understand why I'm not particularly worried so they think I'm in denial. I think I managed to convince her that I really don't have a reason to be worried yet. I hope she is able to convince Sweetie of that because apparently he doesn't believe me.

On the worrying topic, I really appreciate my antidepressant. I know how I would be reacting to all this without it. It's not making me not care, it's making me able to see the big picture instead of focusing on the horribleness. I wish everyone with mental issues would have such good luck in starting anti-depressants.

I am so so so so so proud of my sister! She is a high school dropout with no college experience. Ten years ago she was married to an abusive psychopath, had a baby, and was working at dunkin donuts. Eight years ago she divorced her husband and got a job as a temp packer at a plastics company. As of today, she is officially their new product manager. She has worked her way up from temp to perm packer, QA ISO Coordinator and now Product Manager. They didn't even post the job. The second highest in command in the company personally asked her to take the job.

She always tells me how proud she is that I'm doing well in college. Words can't even begin to describe how proud I am of her. College doesn't necessarily teach you about the real world and a lot of people graduate every year with great grades and find that the real world is totally different from what they were taught. She learned on her own. She proved her worth. Now she has her own office and her own parking spot. She'll be making business trips all over the country to meet with new customers. She has no training for this job but she had none for any of her others and that obviously never hurt her.

So I asked her what is the most important thing she has learned so far.

This is what she said,

"When you have your own office and you fart, there's no one to blame it on when someone walks in and it still smells."

Yesterday went better than I had expected. Once I explained why we couldn't buy the usual groceries my grandma remembered (at least for a little while) and recognized that grandpa's health was more important than a bottle of Ranch dressing. I bought things that I think they will like and we'll just have to hope for the best. Friday at work was a horrible day, really busy and very stressful as I was trying to get everything on my list done before going on hols. I was very relieved to leave work and get on the train to London. Spent last night in the Paddington area, slept in the smallest hotel room I have ever been in - we were literally falling over each other trying to move around in there.

Now it's early afternoon, I'm in the Clubhouse at Heathrow airport, had lunch and a couple of cocktails, I've got an appointment at 2pm for a manicure and then a facial before we get on the flight for New York.

And Tuesday is Van Halen day. Did I mention we're off to NYC to see Van Halen? *perk bounce bounce*

BBBobbio - yet another reason I'll never go near that IHOP, as if it being a disgusting restaurant wasn't enough... ;) I'm not talking the chain in general - just that particular location.

Good Morning all! Man I am glad it's Saturday! Got a couple hours to chill then a good friend of mine will join me in a trip up to Frederick to see our other friend (my college roommate) who has colon cancer. Fortunately he is doing very well, and has the support of a wonderful wife, so I imagine it will be a fun visit.

Got to use the camera for the first time last night, my all important big market media mission was to drive to a Frederick County, MD high school and shoot hoops. Eight hours employment for 20 seconds of highlights. I sat in the parking lot for an hour and transferred the accessories from the old camera to the new:light, wireless microphone receiver and a clamp that holds the reporter mic on the camera for easy grabbing when needed.

Now the thing about that this new camera is it really isn't that different than the old camera. Hell my trusty DVCPro was state of the art in it's day, and is still dependable and shoots great video. In fact if the station is willing to sell it cheap enough I would gladly buy it from them.

This one is several pounds lighter, weighing in at approximately 19.4 lbs. The old one was closer to 25, so that's nice. It's better in low light, and it's high def (though we have them detuned to DV right now because our editing is not high def ready). But it has one really cool feature that I think is going to give me a long photog's woody for some time.

The bane of a news photog's life is missing the shot. Countless times I have been to places and I have not taped the moment because I wasn't rolling tape. This camera has Cache Memory Record. If I think I might need it, say at a police standoff or whatever, I can throw a switch and then whenever I hit record, the camera records what I am shooting and the 15 seconds it was looking at before I hit the record button!

OMFG!!!!

Now as long as I am in Cache mode and pointed the right way, I can have the camera just waiting on a scene, and when it happens I just push the button and I have it. Big example: the Capitol Police have a robot working a suspicious package. I know they are going to blow it up in the next 10 minutes, don't know when. Set the camera on the tripod, frame my shot, wait in Cache mode. When I hear BOOM! reach over and touch record. I got it. No wasting 10 minutes of media for the one shot I need.

And that's just one little feature it has. I won't bother y'all with the rest, but it definitely has a few more cool features.

In other news, Swampy, how You doin? Ya better watch out, I be a free man and Google Maps says I can be in GA in 13.5hrs.

Van Halen in New York? Way jealous! Back in the day I was a big metal head, Priest & Iron Maiden type, but it's been awhile.

Anyway, enough rambling. Need to start the chores and get ready for the road trip.

FairyChatMom
02-25-2012, 11:09 AM
Aw, geez, are we going to have to put up with the bear and gigs flirting all the time now?? There goes the neighborhood... :smack:

Tugig - if the new camera is digital, why does it matter how long you're shooting? It's not like you're burning thru tape, right? Or do I misunderstand? So if you know something's gonna go boom, why not set it and forget it? Bear in mind this question comes from someone famous for close-ups of fingers and shots of insides of pockets...

We had breakfast in Leonardtown, where FCD found a new favorite treat (http://www.stiffwilli.com/). He put some on his western omelet, and, I swear, his face turned red and he was sweating like crazy! He claimed it wasn't all that hot, but he said it was really good. So we bought a bottle.

Then we ran to Joann's so I could get more white yarn. I'm making an afghan to use up scraps, but the main color is white, and I didn't have enough. Now I have tons, so yay.

First load of laundry is in the machine. Maybe one more today. FCD did a water change - it's a easy chore since he built the sump in the basement. It's still crazy windy out. And all in all, life is good.

Oh, yeah, and we'll be going to FL for Easter to see the inlaws, then back to our old haunts to have dinner with friends and maybe spend a day in St. Augustine, just because. Just gotta arrange for someone to deal with the cats and the fish while we're gone.

02-25-2012, 11:10 AM
Tugig - Sweetie had a rather rude reaction at your DVCPro comments. From the other end (the engineering one) they're a bitch and a half he says. He said he had 3 decks for them sitting around waiting for parts so he could fix them. After enough years of waiting without being able to get them, he threw the decks out.

What model is your new camera? (Sweetie wants to know, it wont mean anything to me)

congodwarf
02-25-2012, 11:22 AM
Mooooooom - Sweetie says that if you need 15 specific minutes but you don't know when it's going to happen, you end up taping an hour to get that 15 minutes. But, you can't go back and tape over it. Those 45 minutes that you wasted are gone until taken off the hard drive.

His cameramen are still using tape, but HD tape. It's a realtime record so if they record an hour worth of footage, there's an hour worth of information on the tape. When the cameraman is done for the day, they take the tape out and give it back to Sweetie and Sweetie gets it to the editor and then puts a new tape in the camera.

The camera we have at the house has a hard drive built into the camera so we don't get the time back until we delete it and we can't take the drive out and put another one in. So, if I spend 5 hours recording my dogs being cute and then we get another tornado, I might not be able to get any shots of the tornado because I don't have enough room left on my drive (and because I'd be in the basement).

The camera we used to have had a card that could be removed and replaced so if we recorded too much on one day of our trip to Disney, we could use another card the next day without having to upload and erase everything.

So, it all depends on the camera. :D

It's Saturday. There's a home health nurse interviewing Dad (and mostly, Mom is answering, because Dad just Does Not Remember). Mom and I are rapidly recalculating on things, deciding on changes and trying to re-organize around Dad's needs.

- the car keys are hidden. A friend made a great suggestion. When Dad wants to drive and can't find the keys, the answer is "Oh, Dad, younger bro, when he visited last time, he accidentally took the keys with him. He FedExed them back, but they haven't gotten here yet."

- we're rearranging schedules to minimize any time Dad is alone. Mom agrees that I cannot be "on call" all the time. I have to have time when I know I'm not going to be yelled for and suddenly diverted to whatever is going on. So, it looks like older bro and I will be splitting the days - I take mornings, he takes nights.

- Dad knows something is wrong. He knows he's missing something. He knows he can't find words, remember things, and he's aware that he had some incontinence. Right now, he's exhausted, and any emotional stress just takes him out. He's actually been fairly gentle in his mood, but I haven't had to play point much.

- On the "take care of phouka" level, I bought a teddy bear. Sounds silly, but it actually helps to hug it, especially when I'm going to sleep. The dog is very suspicious of it. I also went out today and bought several new tops. I plan to get a mani-pedi as soon as the cut on my foot heals, a massage perhaps tomorrow, and then get my hair cut (which is maybe a twice yearly event). This is going to hit my trip fund, but Mom's offered to help out.

One thing that has made a huge difference in handling the daily ins-and-outs is a website/guru a friend pointed me to - FLYlady. I'm sure many of you have heard about her. While she's a bit on the schmaltzy side, that's okay. Her approach to daily organization has really helped save my head.

I'm waiting for someone to tell me what he wants to do for dinner. I've been crocheting and watching TV. We watched a 2003 version of The Hound of the Baskervilles, but I suspect they took liberties with the story. I'll need to read it.

Other than that, boring day. I did 2 loads of laundry, so there's that.

In aquarium news - neither of us have seen our arrow crab in several days - he could he hiding, or he could be fish food. Time will tell...

Just got off the phone with my nephew and his friend. They're on their way back from a car show (my brother is driving). 13-year-old boys are silly. :D

FCM - Yes, folks got it right, I don't want to wade through a ton of video, and even with digital media I only have so much I can record on.

Congo - I don't have my old camera with me so I can't remember for sure, but I think its an Panasonic AJ-D910WB. Our shop has steadily been losing cameras and decks to a lack of spare parts. I feel for your sweetie, however I speak as a user & abuser, not a fixer.

Swampy - We? Well, okay, I'm flexible.

Got back from my friend's house a couple hours ago. He's doing really well for colon cancer I suppose. He's going to get surgery in a couple weeks, have to wear the bag for 6 weeks then get it reversed. Then 12 more rounds of chemo. The good news is his wife says recurrence is 4% for his type of cancer, and they got it early.

Looking forward to a quiet night.

Good morning, peasants and other little people!! <insert royal wave here>

I think today is the day I finally swap out the speakers on my computer. Which means I'll have to tidy my desk - I guess I can manage that. Daughter is coming over with her doggeh to visit this afternoon. I'm thinking I'll boil the chickie carcass and make soup. But mostly, no plans for the day.

My sweetie finished off the stroganoff yesterday, but I'm thinking I'll make some again soon. Too bad I don't remember how I made this last batch. Oh well, it'll become like my sketty sauce - never quite the same every time.

Tugig - glad your friend has a good chance of getting past the cancer. That's got to be one of the scariest medical words there is...

I hear FCD in the shower. I was going to let him sleep in, but I guess he just can't handle being without me. ;) I should hit the shower myself, but that would require moving... eventually...

Happy Sunday!! Do we have a volunteer for tomorrow?

All this talk of knitting reminds me I have an unfinished kitty blanket that needs to lose the prefix.

I guess I'll have to go to the grocery sto' today. I've been putting it off. Or I could just wait until tomorrow when the store opens before noon. I forgot where I lived for a second.

And my keyboard died as I was typing the above. Frickin' frackin' wireless keyboard. At least the mouse has a little light that blinks when its batteries are going out.

All this talk about beef stroganoff is making me think it's time to do a grocery run. I have always enjoyed the 'I'll cook for myself' aspect of being on my own. One of the hardest things to do is remember portion control. I tend to cook large batches and work off them for days.

I think I might make coffee. If anyone here knew me they would know that is a rare thing - I enjoy coffee but I don't like making it often. I am thinking I need the motivation, 'cause I have to go visit the place I left and pick up some more of my stuff. A two hour drive to do something depressing doesn't thrill me.

Ah well, could have bigger problems.

Good morning all!

Okay, well so much for coffee.

Between the last post & this one I got up, went in the kitchen, pulled out the coffee maker, opened it up and...

The future ex-Tugig (who was the coffee drinker between us) had decided to give me the coffee maker. I assume that it was 1) because she was trying to be nice and 2) because she didn't want a large coffee maker for herself. So she had packed it up and put it in my pile of things to go and I took it. That was a few months ago.

So fast forward to today, I pull it out and open it up to give it a quick scrub & make some coffee when I am greeted by a huge lump of hardened, multicolored mold. Yup, she hadn't emptied it before she gave it to me. Three month old coffee grounds.

Oh well, I don't believe it to be intentional. So it's taken me about an hour to strip, scrub and run it with vinegar and now clean water. I don't think I'll have coffee today, but it's ready for next time.

I gotta start going through my stuff to see what other surprises await...

Tugig - mega-ick!!!

It's been a productive morning. Apart from the requisite showering and dressing, I've taken care of the kitchen and helped my sweetie take the hood off the aquarium so he could repair a bank of lights. BBBobbio - FCD and I will be judging the 6th grade science fair at our daughter's school tomorrow. It's weird - the judging is after school with no kids present. We'll be given checklists for evaluating the projects. Sounds boring, but who knows? From what she tells us, the 6th grade science teacher really sucks, so I'm not expecting much, even tho these were the kids she taught last year.

The coffee mold thing was totally disgusting. Blech. Why is it that I get excited about dissecting things but the idea of a moldy coffee pot makes me feel ill?

Luckily that will never happen here. I only have a couple cups a week but Sweetie has at least a pot a day. The coffee pot is one of the few things in this house that will necessitate an emergency trip to walmart, even if he just said, "I am NOT leaving this house today!!!"

I have been trying to get through my chem homework today. I'm not so much having trouble understanding it as I am having trouble keeping myself motivated. My head hurts and I don't want to look at little black letters any more. I don't have a choice though because it's due today.

Sweetie is watching the third incarnation of Robotech and I have to say it's better than the first two.

Last night was so much fun. My best friend wasn't able to find a baby sitter so the 5 of us went to see Game of Shadows instead. We went to the Elm Cinema in Millbury. This place has been around since the 40's. It only has one screen and they generally show only one movie per week. Admission is $5. They have the snack bar right inside the theater so you can go get food without having to miss any of the movie. The side rows have tables built into the chair back so everyone can put their food in front of them. The middle row has a little table between every two seats. The seats are really uncomfortable but they have big boxes of cushions all over the place (something I didn't find out until the movie was over). There are pictures and movie models all over the place and it's cool to hear popcorn popping as the movie is going. The movie started at 7-ish. Their start times aren't set in stone because they want the majority of the people to be seated with food. They have no previews though, which is cool. They were actually showing cable (Iron Man 2 on FX) until the movie started.

We started out with a chicken parm sandwich for Sweetie and nachos and taquitoes for me. He ate most of my nachos though. Later on I got us each a hot dog (steamed, normal hot dog not those atrocious cinema hot dogs) and an ice cream for each of us. We also both got drinks. All that food and the cost of the tickets for both of us was $29.
