I've got only one question, and one question only.
why did this kid try this?! the subparts to this question are...--

WORSE, he was alone. so if this was a real game, he COULD NOT've won (he was alone) and how was he gonna get himself untied?

The mother of a Franklin Junior High School student who died Tuesday said her son died while playing a game where oxygen is cut off to the brain by hanging or choking.

"It was not a suicide, it was a game of blackout," said Betta Beckenbach, in a phone to the newspaper. Her son, Nickolas Beckenbach, was found hanging by a belt in the bathroom of a southeast Brainerd home, the Crow Wing County Coroner's office said.

also, it is so pathetic that our city officials can't see how boring and stupid our town is. we have the highest suicide, teen suicide, teen pregnancy, and teen drug use stats in ALL of central Minnesota. (per capita)

Sounds like an attempt at auto-erotic asphyxiation to me (cf Michael Hutchence).

I'd second that...granted, junior-high kids can be pretty dumb, but come on.

He's hanging himself. By a belt. In the bathroom. If his mom wants to call it "a game" of "blackout", then I guess I can't blame her for trying to cover up what was probably really going on...it's gotta be horrifying enough to lose your child without having to explain to the world that autoerotic asphyxiation was the reason behind it.

[gross aside]
This happened on my dorm floor (http://digicol.missouri.edu/dcwww?-show:client/mizzou/missourian/j1998/q2/m04/t19/pa/s009/003_001.dcs) the year after I moved out...unfortunately, the guy lived alone, and nobody noticed he was missing until after he'd spent several days decomposing, in an un-airconditioned room, during a warm spell. I've been told by friends who still lived there the smell was causing people as far as five floors away to complain (he lived near a stairwell, so the scent travelled). The poor guys who lived across the hall, one of whom I still hang out with, had taken to burning half a dozen candles around the clock to deal with it. As for why nobody put two and two together sooner, well, you got me.

That was my first thought, too. Either mom's in denial (if it was AEA, it would be fairly obvious what was going on when she found him), or the newspaper is playing the "that doesn't happen around here" game.

I just found out that the kid that died was one of my friend's brother's best friends.

I think that his mom would've been too embarassed to divulge into any details ,that's why the story is so sketchy. I mean, Hell, If my kid died I wouldn't want him to go down in History as the kid that died with his dick in his hand.
