So everyone and their brother (okay, two of my friends, and this guy on my hall) are going to a "progressive" tonite. They asked me if I wanted to come, and I cool-ly said, "Maybe--depends on what else is going on?" but inside, I was panicing, but I didn't want them to know how unhep I really am. So help me, folks--what the hell is a progressive?

Take this with a grain of salt, as I'm a grad student and thus my understanding of social life may be faulty/laughable, but I think it's a party that moves from one person's place to another. Verification, anyone?

My understanding is the same as capybara's. And each place would serve its own type of drink.

I'd go with Lux Fiat's thinking on the drinks.
And, ThisYearsGirl, don't feel too bad about "progressive" being hip. My parents used to go to progressive dinners, where each person served a different course, so the term is retro.

Well, I gotta admit I'm disapointed. I was thinking the artsy college definition of progressive, and imagined a bunch of kids sitting around, trying to transcend what people normally perceive as parties. No music, no alcohol, no fun, but at least they're moving on what the material world sees as "parties."
Actually, I didn't go. I decided I'd rather make out with my boyfriend instead.
