MTV occasionally runs a special that reviews the best and worst of the previous Video Music Awards. Part of it is this monster 20 minute segment that shows a little bit of every performance that was in any of the shows.

One of the snippets shows a guy in a black beret sitting in front of a bank of video monitors on a dark stage. The little bit of the song they play is kind of chanty. Timeframe was probably late 80's or early 90's. It's a really short clip, maybe 5 or 6 seconds. And I'm real fuzzy on the details here -- it's been awhile since I've seen the special. Does anyone remember this performance and know who this guy is? And what song it was?

The only chant-like songs I remember from that time period were from Enigma. Do you think it's them? Their hits were called Mea Culpa and return to Innocence.

Was it them?

It's "The Edge" from U2 singing the song "Numb".

Yes! That's it... I recognize the lyrics. You are awesome Chief Crunch. I would never have figured that out.
