View Full Version : What would you do in a minor collision?

If you said "pull over so both drivers can assess the damages", good on you. If you said "speed away without even acknowledging the other car's presence", I need to talk to you about today.
I'm driving along a road that circles a mall parking lot. The road is four lanes, two in each direction, and I'm in the inside lane on the outside road (third lane from the parking lot, in other words). There's no center lane for people to sit while waiting to turn left into the parking lot, since the traffic doesn't warrant it. But apparently the blind fucking idiot who sideswiped me while trying to turn into my lane into the exact spot I was occupying at the time thought differently.
Don't people usually LOOK to see whether or not there's cars coming before turning left? I really hope I've been right in assuming all this time that it's the responsibility of the person making the turn to be sure the street is clear. I didn't think it was the cars driving straight that had the responsibility to get out of the way. Because I have these sorts of funny ideas about right-of-way, I was shocked as hell to see a car suddenly appearing inches from my side and trying to merge into my lane. The two cars hit each other for a moment before I could pull into the other lane. Lucky for the stupid bitch, that lane was open, otherwise it could have gotten messy.
Back to the thread title. I would hope that most drivers in a situation like that would pull over to see what damages have been done, who's responsible, and what have you. Oh no. The damned Scheissekopf continued driving along as if nothing had happened. I followed her for a while, trying to get her to pull over (which seems to be very hard to do without flashing lights and a siren), but apparently she wanted nothing to do with me and tore off. Never mind the fact she could have seriously fucked us both up if I hadn't noticed in time.
End result: my truck has yet ANOTHER dent in it, and my door makes an odd noise when I open it. I was too surprised to get the fuckin' idiot's license or I'd've reported her for reckless driving.
Lousy fucking asswipe, you are so damned lucky the damage wasn't worse and I didn't get your plate number. I hope a fire truck is forced to ram you off the road when you won't get out of its way.
Hm...perhaps a bit long for a minor incident, but this kind of discourtesy pisses me off. How's it for a first rant? :)

I've never had that happen, though I have had people run into my vehicle while it was parked who didn't leave a note.
On a somewhat unrelated note, one thing that pisses me off is people who block traffic because they were in a minor accident. I don't know about in all states, but in Texas on the highways if you are involved in a non-injury accident and your vehicle can still be moved, you are to move it off the road, yet I constantly see people who had minor fenderbenders blocking traffic while they wait for the police to show up.
One time I was involved in an accident where the other party not only felt that there was nothing wrong with leaving her vehicle in the middle of the road, but thought that we were OBLIGATED to leave our vehicles exactly where they stopped, she started screaming at me not to move my car when I drove it to the side of the road, wanting me to leave it where it was until the police showed up. I told her there was no sense in calling the police, they wouldn't write an accident report since the damage was under $500, nobody was hurt, and it was pretty obvious anyway that it was her fault from where the damage on the vehicles was, but she did anyway, and the cop told her the same thing I did.

BayleDomon----That is hit and run, she would've been in big trouble for that and you could've probably got a new door put on your truck!!!!
Parked at a gas station one day leaning against the car as I'm pumping gas, suddenly "THUD". This stupid b!itch backs into my car it wasn't in gear but the emergency brake was on (didn't really work anyways). So I'm still standing there in shock, holding the gas tank nozzle in one hande and the pump in the other which is still on. I drop both of them walk to the ladies car.
Her window is half way down. So I in the kindest tone say, "mam".."did you look behind you" and before she had a chance to say anything I answered for her "NO YOU FUC*ING DIDN'T OR YOU WOULD HAVE SEEN MY FUC*ING CAR" "Then proceeded to call her several other profane things, then furiously walked over to my car to inspect the damage. Let me just say I love my car. It didn't really do much damage except a small paint chip horizontally for about three inches where the plastic bent in then bent back out. Doesn't sound like much, but because my "baby" got hurt, I was furious. I stormed back over to her car, cursing under my breath the whole way. "How did you not see my car?" She said "well I just didn't see it" and hands me her insurance papers. I threw them back at her and said "YOU STUPID B!TCH" got in my car hit the gas making my tires smoke and left. I didn't really need all the hassel with the insurance, accident report, etc. It just felt really good blowing up on some stupid person.

God, Nicklz- try decaf, man!
A minor fender bender is nothing to get your knickers in a twist over. You'll drop dead of a heart attack if you get that upset over someone accidently bumping your car.
I threw them back at her and said "YOU STUPID B!TCH" got in my car hit the gas making my tires smoke and left.
Wow, you sure showed her! Your whole post sounds like a "What I shoulda done" dialogue. I'm not saying you didn't say those things- there are lots of wackos out there after all, but it sounds more like a FreakFreeley kind of story. (do a search if you don't know who he is)

When I bought my Omni, I thought the 5-mph bumpers were about the ugliest thing I'd ever seen.
I've driven the car for 16 years, and _six_ times, they've saved me from serious bodywork!
And five times it was someone else's fault, and they stopped, and we had a quiet civilized talk about it, and since no harm was done, we just drove away.
And the one time it was my fault, it was the same way.
Gosh, I love those bumpers!

Despite the surrealism that is Nicklz's post, he is right about something: This is a hit and run, which is a felony, and not a minor traffic infraction. If you had reported her, she would not have gotten a talking to by the police, she would have been arrested.

O-kay. That's...wow. I hope I never run into you, Nicklz, literally. :D
Now, I'm no big car guy. As long as my truck runs, I'm happy. Hell, my front right fender is majorly dented from kissing a wall a couple years back, and I still haven't fixed it. It's only cosmetic damage. Same with the door, although I'm a bit worried more than the chassis may be damaged.
What pissed me off was the complete and utter lack of concern this woman displayed, considering she endangered both of us. I mean, I nearly got run over when crossing a street last week, but at least the driver had the grace to apologize profusely.
Like I said before, I was too shocked at the idiocy of this person to catch the license, and reporting a 'red car with a woman driver' wouldn't have been much help. I've never had to call the police for any reason before, but I wouldn't have hesitated if I'd gotten the license. That kind of person should not be on the road.
Rocketeer, that did happen once to me. I accidentally rear-ended a slick sports car. :o Not too hard, though, no damage, and the guy was very cool about it when we pulled over to a parking lot. Considering how nice that car looked, I was lucky as hell he wasn't as obsessed over it as, say, Nicklz. :)
Badtz Maru, that's just plain idiotic. I don't know how many detective novels she'd read where the scene of the crime was supposed to be left untouched , but I don't think anyone would want to hold up traffic over something like that. There's enough witnesses (at the very least, you and her) to cover whatever might have changed.
Someday I'm gonna write a post using all the smilies...

Nicklz, that is so not cool.
Accidents happen. If the person is a nimrod fucking twat who is as stupid and faultworthy as all that, let her insurance take it out of her hide. Verbal abuse gets you nowhere. It borders on road rage, and it also turns you from "innocent victim" to "complete raging asshole."
I witnessed an accident once where a guy rear-ended one car, which then got pushed forward and rear-ended the car in front of him. A good hearty bump, some bumper damage, probably not cheap, but not bad and no injuries. It was NOT his fault--there was absolutely nothing he can do. But the cunt in that car hopped out of her car and screamed "SON OF A BITCH!" so loudly I am sure they could hear it in Ohio. Then she SLAMMED her car door shut hard and STORMED back to her bumper. I've never seen the like of it. I thought, Jesus fucking christ, I think I'm glad she got hit and too bad it didn't decapitate her because that is one uptight ugly-hearted vicious human being with no sense of perspective or proportion! Perhaps she was on her way to get her ass-boils lanced after leaving an IRS audit--I'll cut her some slack if that's the case. But I think she was just an unholy bitch.
Ever since that, I've vowed to just chill out if I'm ever in an accident. I'm not even going to roll down my car window if the other driver starts abusing me. I'll tell him he clearly is having a temper problem and I'd prefer to deal with the police, not him, so I'll just be sitting here waiting, fuck you very much. The "fuck" would be under my breath, of course.
A bad driver nearly killed my infant son once. She was barreling down the sidewalk at a home center doing about 40 MPH. We couldn't see her (the sidewalk was flush with the exit) and pushed our cart out, Cranky Jr in it, unaware that anyone would be DRIVING on the walkway. Missed us by inches. I'm not kidding. She parked her car and came flying over, practically in tears, begging our forgiveness for being so careless and saying she'd never forgive herself if anything had happened to the baby and she was soooooo sorry. I was still too shocked and mad and freaked out to accept her apology, but at least I managed to stammer something and keep my language to myself. If I could manage that, I think Ms. Bleeding Raging Cunt can deal with a little bumper nudge.
And Nicklz, surely you can keep your temper a little better when someone does something stupid but unintentional to your car! *wagging her finger in her best loving-mother manner*
