So, in this
now-defunct thread (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=71024), techchick has once more made it perfectly clear that she, too is a moderator. However, <cringe> she is not pleased that I suggested that she lectures too much, as I received an email this morning from some AOLoser that rambled on for a few sentences and then ended in the characteristic "...fuck it"® of the ever-annoying techchick.

As a person with an ego that can withstand the flames, I've decided to simply respond to her here. So, I'd like to invite all you techchick haters and supporters to some on out in give her the attention she demands from the SDMB.

Your donation can be large or small; aimed at me or her- I don't care. Either way, it's bound to be amusing.

<response>
I can only assume this is techchick. I mostly lurk, but I'm on the board every day. And I don't think I've ever seen you on a thread where you weren't an obnoxious little miss-know-it-all shit. I've seen that you get most of your world view from your rich daddy and that you probably got your work ethic there too.

Nobody (at least me, and in terms of this message board, I AM nobody) gives a fuck what message boards you have or currently moderate. The mods seem to do a good job on their own and probably don't need you to be the first one in to tell everyone what they should be doing. In short, you suck.

Now, I don't get involved with flame wars for several reasons: 1. The boards are usually too slow to jump in and start a fight with someone who I don't know and don't much care about, 2.it's not the reason I come to the SMDB, and 3. generally, its sad to see how worked up people get over a message board- it's like a soap opera.

But in your case, I've made my first, and probably only exception. You're a rich little fucker with no sense of reality, at least your OWN sense. You certainly strike me as the sort who was the classroom monitor when teacher was out of the room- a job I'm sure you relished; the likes of which you probably haven't been able to find in adulthood- Oh! I'm sorry! You HAVE found a job like this! You're a MODERATOR. OOOHhhhhh!

And I like your style of confrontation- blather out a few sentences and then "...fuck it..." . Oh, poor, misunderstood techie.

Here are two unsolicited ideas for you:
1. Shut up
2. Take another break from the boards, but not before you sing a sad song about how misunderstood you are. I need the laugh.

Every time I see your handle on a post, my stomach gets that cringie feeling that you get when someone is embarassing themselves and doesn't even know it.

And remember, when you post to a message board, for every poster you interact with, there could be 1000's more that simply lurk. So don't be too confused over why someone doesn't like you even though you haven't interacted with them. YOU'RE the one with your thoughts out on display, not me. So of course I could have formed an opinion about you- without you're even knowing it. Spooky? No. Just common sense.

And before your panties get too bunched up, I'm not suggesting your daddy doesn't have a work ethic- only that you, as a result of his success, don't need one.

Why waste the emotional energy required to work up an actual hate and loathing of her? I've found that looking upon her with distain is just as rewarding and not NEARLY as exhausting.

Besides, folks who persue attention as assiduously as she will take any attention they can get, positive or negative. I regret feeding her ego at all by posting to this thread. I read her posts and reply to threads like this for the same reason I occasionally swing by rotten.com...it's vile, it's reprehensible, and yet almost impossible to pass without dipping one's cup...

And you've answered your own question. :D

Besides, how much energy does it really take? It's not like I'm sweating or anything. Besides, even though I don't like her as a poster, I don't wish her any ill will, and the responses from her, and from other posters (either agreeing with or shitting on me) will pass the Friday at the office.

Lamer reasons for flame threads have given way to really good threads...

(Oh yeah, Hamadryad, you've gotta get some sleep! You shouldn't be getting exhausted from this type of activity! ;))

I can only assume this is techchick.
You assume that it's TC?

You launched this whole vapid thread on the off-chance that a (not very rare) phrase betrayed the identify of the author?

Okey-dokie.

Just for the record, while TC's prickly personality and the speed with which she has been known to take offense are amply demonstrated by the cheering section that has responded to this thread, a person who has actually read what TC has posted over the last year or so would realize that she is a fairly intense workaholic who invests a considerable amount of energy providing computer services both as an actual paid employee and in the assistance of other people on various message boards.

If you wish to launch some grand "let's all bash people who are easily irritated" thread, this is the place to do it.

If you wish to hurl insults by creating a straw man to knock down, you just look silly.

If the author of you e-mail was TC, I am rather sure that she did not intend any anonymity--whatever battles she has joined, I have never seen her make an anonymous contribution. (As I recall, she is not a fan of AOL, although that does not preclude her using it.) If it turns out that she was not the author of your e-mail, I am curious what your next action will be.

Yes, "assume". There wasn't any actual name at the end, but since the sender took offense at the posting, I can safely "assume" it was her. However, since it would not hold up in a court, or in the court of the SDMB, I use the word "assume". However, if you'd like I could use "alleged" or something else...

You launched this whole vapid thread ...

Vapid. VAPID! I love that word. Douglas Adams used it very well. Well, I'm sorry tom and/or debb, I wouldn't want to contribute a vapid thread to the Pit!

But your retort has been registered, and I thank you for speaking up. I don't, as I implied in the OP, want to start a pile-on thread. Mainly, I just didn't feel that I had a relationship (or ANY relationship) with techchick that would warrant going back and forth on email. Further, it doesn't even seem all that important.

...a person who has actually read what TC has posted over the last year or so ...

I "assume" you are implying that I haven't read her postings. You're right. I randomly picked her name off the boards and attacked her. Far be from anyone to overstate something in the Pit. (no rolley-eyes needed)

No, let's just bash techchick. And make that a straw woman you insensitive pig!

If it turns out that she was not the author of your e-mail, I am curious what your next action will be.
I will start a self-bashing thread immediately. Or I'll just hijack this one. Oh yes, and I'll type techchick's name with tons of brackets around it, to show how cyber-sorry I am. More brackets than the world has ever seen! And then I'll wonder how anyone non-techchick would get offended at what I said.

And yes, tom, I KNOW she helps people at message boards... That's a main part of the OP.

No offense intended to the OP'er, but those of you who think that was at or near a 10.0 rant really need to get out more.

I found the swipes at Techchick's family's wealth gratuitous, too. That her dad has money should have as much relevance to what she posts and how people respond to it as the fact that my mom didn't have money. So what?

And I guess I didn't take Techchick's references to being a moderator in the afore-linked thread as annoyingly as you did, as the thread subject was about how moderators do things (at least one, anyway).

You want to cite particular quotes she made there that you feel are out-of-line, or out of context to the types of things everyone else was talking about?

And, finally, persecuting someone with a persecution complex seems a bit too helpful, don't you think? If this ends up spawning an incoherent, multi-page melodrama, I think we should put you up on the cross for an hour or so too, smoke, just to teach you a lesson.

Regardless of whether I agree with the OPs statements or not...it seemed to me almost as if the 'anonymous' email or IM or whatever was just the straw that inspired him to go off like a gun at the Heston ranch.

Perhaps he just needed a reason to begin the venting, just like sometimes one word or one look or one eyeroll can send someone reeling for days.

Like I said, just an outside observation...I've barely interacted to techie, so I can't really take sides on the arguement. It just seems that smoke's been building up some anger towards techie and someone said 'fuck it' and he went nutso.

Either way. It's a cause to pull up a chair. I doubt this thread will go down quietly.

I think TECKIE is a valuable poster here who contributes meaningfully and who often takes it upon herself to stick up for those who are down. There are lots of posters who I would rate far higher than her (she?) on the "Bugs The Shit Out Of Me" meter, not to mention the "Has Head Far Up Ass" meter.

And I'm getting fucking sick of people who receive e-mail and manage to keep the exchange in e-mail, but who instead have to suck up bandwidth attempting to make a personal spat into a board-wide dogpile. Listen, as much as I don't care that TECH is a mod at another board, I care far, far less that SMOKE received an e-mail containing the suspicious phrase "fuck it."

And I'm getting really fucking sick of people purposely trying to get others to pile on one poster, rather than confining themselves to dealing with their own interpersonal issues themselves. So I'd probably post a contrary opinion here just to stop the thread from being another unilateral kick-the-shit-out-of-someone festival, even if I didn't really think that TECH is okay, which I do.

And remember, SMOKE, for every person who posts to this thread, pro or con, there may be 1000's more lurkers who think you're a bit of a shit for starting it. Spooky, huh?

Let me just recast what I had to say relating techchick's dad's success to her. Her work ethic never should have been called into question. Thinking back, I don't even know why I put that in there.

What I was originally trying to do was to vent about her without starting a quoting competition. The thread I had in mind was a while back where techchick ran through her economical views by basically starting each sentence with "My father says...". Cite? Nope, you can find it. I'm not arguing fundamentals of the universe here. If you don't think my opinions are well-grounded, then ignore 'em, or "put (me) up on the cross for an hour or so too..., just to teach (me) a lesson." That way, I'll NEVER forget!

Milossarian (no offense taken, BTW), on the one hand, doesn't want this to go for pages, but OTOH, wants cites. Once one person starts citing on a ridiculous flame thread that is an attack on an annoying personality, (Colibri I'm looking at you! ;))- well, that's when you know a thread's gonna drag out forever.

Besides, I already offered to start up an anti-smoke thread. I've got tons of material- it's like I know what I'm thinking or something! I'll bet I could even do it without using the words felch or mung.

And thanks Colibri- even though I wasn't going for the whole quote thang, it's good to see her actually say "Daddy takes me to places you can't get into, ask Mr Cynical and Lexicon, they know it even though they don't like me. I hardly work, this is my curse, my life. But I love not "having to work" but I do work out of boredom. " Too funny!

And we all know that it ain't boredom- it's the need to be someone's fucking pet! Why don't you become a submissive? (And BTW- you're about as bisexual as my dick squirts chocolate- nice try at being trendy)

Well, the hatefull rambling email I received from her was from AOL ( COflower1@aol.com ) to be exact.

Was that the address yours came from Smoke?

Tomndeb:~snip~who invests a considerable amount of energy providing computer services both as an actual paid employee and in the assistance of other people on various message boards. How could he NOT know this??? She tells us ALL THE TIME!!

Milo: I found the swipes at Techchick's family's wealth gratuitous, too. That her dad has money should have as much relevance to what she posts and how people respond to it as the fact that my mom didn't have money. So what? She tells us all about her rich daddy every time she gets drunk and has a meltdown - it was explained to me once that if you post it, be ready to see it come back and bite you.

And I guess I didn't take Techchick's references to being a moderator in the afore-linked thread as annoyingly as you did, as the thread subject was about how moderators do things (at least one, anyway). again, she tells us all the time: "Blah blah as a moderator on another board, I can say that blah blahblah...."
I dont know about smoke and the others, but if I wanted to be moderated by her, I would go to the OTHER board and post THERE!!! She is NOT a mod here, and this wannabe shit is really pathetic.

So smoke my dear, I predict one of the following:

1. she gets wasted and comes in to have a meltdown (again) and tells us (again) how bad we all are, and how much nicer she is than we think, but that she doesnt care anyway, so fuck it... followed by a dramatic "I'm leaving" (again)

or

2. The mods will close this.
To the mods I think she is like a really big friendly dog that sticks its snout way up their crotches, they are afraid to say anything to her, less she turn on them. She has been sucking up so hard for so long... what else can they do.

Sad really. She wasnt always like this. When we lost Wally, something broke in her head. :(

You don't get it. Why don't we just move the Pit into private emails? I initially said something on the board that was offensive to techchick, as it was meant to be. The thread got closed before she could respond, so she sent me an email. Big deal. I've continued what I have to say in public, with my only communication back to her via email being a link here. Actually, SMOKE, ole' buddy, ole' kid, ole' sock, you don't seem to get it. AFAICT, you have deemed it necessary to start a lame rant in the pit over an issue that started in e-mail. Mods, why are we even wasting this bandwidth? This isn't board related, except in that you seem to be objecting to TC being TC. Well, guess what, cumsponge, get over it. If you don't like a certain poster's style of posting, Don't read their posts!! Jesus Christ! We've all got different styles and personalities, that's what makes us human! TC posts as she sees fit, as do I, as do you. Is it that hard to ignore someone? Or are you, rather than TC, so obsessed with attention that you post a pointless OP about a poster with a controversial style, just to bask in a page of two of others saying " me too!" or "I fucking hate her". What happened, did daddy not have time to give you any attention after you were born because he was tired of your mom and was going after his other sister? Is your bleeding rectum from your part time job as a night deposit box for a sperm bank making it all uncomfortable for you to sit at your computer, and you want to share the wealth? Here's a suggestion. Turn off the computer. That's right, off. Take a shower, wash the cum stains off your belly from all the kiddy porn you peruse. Go outside. Meet some actual real live people to interact with. See that? The world can be a bright place! No need to spend your energy on something as simple as a message board. Who knows? Maybe you'll meet an actual real live GIRL! I hope so, the dog is getting tired of your "attention". In any event, one hopes that a sense of perspective magically desends upon you, and you can spend the rest of your life worrying about stuff that ACTUALLY MATTERS, like how to get your stunted, diseased brain under control so you can get an actual life.

Everybody had their pissy little fit now?

If someone sends you something in email please have the common courtesy to confine it to email. Not only is it rude to carry your personal pet feud to a public board, it's also inappropriate to reproduce someone's emails without their permission.

You don't like someone on the board? Easy solution. Don't read their posts.

This thread is closed. Don't do this again.

SMOKE --

You don't get it. Why don't we just move the Pit into private emails?

Because there is a reason to have a forum for bitching and moaning about the Board; for continuing discussions that started on the Board but have deteriorated in terms of incivility; and for sharing generalized rants on non-Board related stuff. But why bother to take something that was sent to you as a private e-mail and take up time and space on the Board with it? Your only explanation is "she wants attention!" which to me is a lame-ass excuse. If you get something via e-mail, then deal with it through e-mail. How hard is that?

Continued what I have to say in public, with my only communication back to her via email being a link here.

Apparently your e-mail doesn't come with a "respond" button, huh?

Figure she'll come in and have some fun, too. She admittedly has nothing better to do.

Yeah, it's big fun to find some unknown ass has decided to make you the subject of a Pit thread and literally invited others to pile on you.

Again, the OP clearly invites people to "pile on" me if they feel like it.

Y'know, I consider that so disingenuous as to be contemptible. You cannot start a thread "POSTER X IS A GREAT BIG DONKEY DICK!! WHO'S WITH ME??" and then protest, hey, people could say mean things about me as well, so it's all okay. It's not okay, it's childish

I'm not one for pile-ups myself but if we can consider your post to be the first one I'd gladly be smooshed together with you.

This thread belies the assertion that you are "not one for pile-ups;" this is the most transparent attempt to start one that I've seen. And my first post cannot be considered a gratuitiuos criticism of you, and you know it.

I don't know you too well from posts, but I didn't know you were such a pessimist! There could be 1000's out there that agree, too! And no, since I'm not confused by the idea that someone I've never interacted with might have formed an opinion on me based on my posts, it's not all that spooky.

Way to miss the point. If you think it's "spooky" that thousands of lurkers might object to TECH's posting style, surely you must see that it is equally as likely -- and equally as "spooky" -- that thousands of lurkers might object to yours.

And would you please stop capitalizing my name? If you want to shout it use bolding or something.

No, actually, I won't. I have always capitalized people's names for ease in finding them when reading my posts, since way back before you could do cool things like bold and italicize on the net. I know it's an oddity, but it's not one I'm inclined to change just to suit you.

I'm not trying to rip you a new one -- unlike what you're obviously trying to do to TECH -- but I really don't think this thread does you any credit. And if you have the right to call people "little fuckers," as undoubtedly you do, then I have the right to post my opinion as well.
