Why do I use methane (Natural Gas) in my stove at home, but propane in my stove when I camp? Which is the better fuel?

I think it's primarily a storage issue: Propane is easier to liquify and put into portable tanks, so it's good for backpacking, but you don't need to store methane at home, you just draw it from the pipe as needed.
