I'm so proud of myself. I was finally able to use the Internet to answer one of life's great mysteries.

Back story:
About two months ago, Mrs. Tygr & I went out to a nice restaurant for our anniversary. While I was standing at the salad bar a song came over the in-house Muzak system, a catchy big-band tune. During part of it I could hear the band members stop playing and sing a line of verse, a-la "Pennsylvania 6-5000". It took me only half a second to realize what they were singing.

It was the song that Horton the Elephant sings in "Horton Hatches the Egg".

I was quite surprised to find that this was a real song, rather than one made up for him by those screw-balls at Warner.

Since that time I've been on a quest. A soul-rending journey of Grail-esque proportions to find the answers I've sought lo, these many years...

Alright, alright. Gawd, I can sound like a load of coal when I get wrought up like that. Anyway, it HAD been bugging me for these past two months, what, exactly the name of that song was, so yesterday I ran through a Google search and after about ten minutes I had my answer.

The name of the song that Horton the Elephant sings is:

Hut-sut Rawlson on the rillerah and a brawla, brawla sooit.
Hut-sut Rawlson on the rillerah and a brawla sooit.

Hmm. Well, that doesn't exactly clear up the mystery.

But maybe this (http://www.siouxcityjournal.com/LocalNews/SoundFurry/11800write.html) does.

Carry on. I'll be here, still fighting to illuminate the darkness.

It appears that at least one other person (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?postid=952014#post952014) knows about this song.

Well, at least I've illuminated part of my own ignorance. That's worth the price of admission...

Darnit, now I have the "Hut Sut Song" (http://elyrics4u.com/music/Lyrics4U/lyrics/h/hut_sut_song.html) as performed by Horace Heidt and his Orchestra in my head. I know it was a hit in WW2.

Anyone want to get started on "I've Got a Loverly Bunch of Coconuts" next?

This is slightly related, but has anyone actually seen Seussical:The Musical on Broadway? My mom brought me the soundtrack back from one of her business trips, and I'm obsessed...I NEED to see that show! So, anyone know how good it is?

Check out the site...it's wicked funny! Seussical:The Musical (http://www.seussical.com)

"A group called the Merry Macs sang it but I'm much too young to have monitored the Merry Macs."

No! No! He's too young to have Monitored the Virginia!

Will no one remember the correct name of that poor southern ironclad?

Err, never mind. Please return to your previously scheduled topic.
