View Full Version : A bizarre dream I had - can it be interpreted?

I had a weirder-than-usual dream yesterday that is now stuck in my head. I thought I'd share it and see what y'all think.
I was in a big skyscraper and was being told by some guy in a suit about this job I had to do - there were these turtles who needed help to reproduce, what I had to do was let them swallow me whole. I can't quite remember exactly why but I think it was so they could take me to some underwater cave or something. We then went down an elevator to the bottom and exited the building. The skyscraper was the only building in a thick jungle, and a smallish river led up to it. Me and the guy in a suit waited and soon enough 3 or 4 large turtles swam up - they were about 4 or 5 feet across.
I asked how the turtles were supposed to be able to swallow me whole, because their mouths weren't nearly big enough. I was told that for the first few days of the trip I would be riding on the back of their shells, and the turtles would grow some each day so that by the time we got to where we were going they would be big enough to swallow me whole. Then I was told that on the way the turtles may need to eat some of me, but I had to follow these rules about the order of the parts of myself I was to feed them - first I had to let them eat pieces of skin off my ears, and then they could eat the tips of my fingers. I can't remember if he told me what I had to let the turtles eat after my fingertips were gone.
I then climbed on the back of one of the turtles, it would have been kinda hard to keep my balance but they had natural handholds on either side of their shell. The turtles started to swim down the river, and then I woke up.

This is an easy one. You symbolize the civilized world and the turtles symbolize bin Laden and company. At first they just nibble at you, taking potshots that don't hurt much, but then as time passes they get bolder, bigger and badder and eventually swallow you whole.
Or maybe it's just a reminder that you haven't fed your dead pet turtle lately.... Remember, if he just sits there day after day, not moving, chances are you're not going to get much into his stomach--just a few nibbles off of your fingers...
Or it's a symbolic dream reminding you to have turtle soup at some restaurant tonight.
Take your pick. That'll be five dollars, cash. ;)
I have good news and bad news.
Bad news: no dream means anything - they're just your brain sorting out the stuff from the previous day, plus anything that's bugging you.
Good news: there's no charge for this!
Have a nice day...

I like green's take better, even if there's a charge. Anyone want to make an attempt at interpreting this one? It was from Saturday morning, if the time makes a difference to you...
I was outside on the road, and I noticed that a hooker was being turned in (to the police?) by young boys for the 12th time, and everyone knows, at least in the dream, that you get arrested on the 12th time you're turned in. For some reason, I decide to tag along after the hooker is turned in. I never see the hooker again, but there are two guys in a room. One has handcuffs on, and seems to be waiting to talk to a religious person. The other is there by his own free will, and is talking to the Rice Crispies cartoon characters, which are as real as anyone else in the room. The man is appearently unhappy with his marital situation since that's what he's talking to the blond Chrispy about, who is holding a letter the man wrote in his hand. Blond Crispy apologizes for being too harsh in his critique of the letter, and the man tells him that it's ok, he was seeking an honest opinion. For some reason this seems ok, because you're supposed to write letters to the Rice Crispy cartoons...I pick up a box of Rice Crispies and read on the back how if you send them a second letter in a one week time period, they'll send you a free set of real 3 inch life size RC guy figurines, which is odd, since the Crispies aren't 3 inches tall, they're probably four feet tall. First I wonder how many letters they get, then I notice it doesn't say one week, it says "on week" which is obviously a typo. I was walking over to the Blond Crispy to point out the typo when I was woken up by something outside, oh well.
Ok, have at it if you care to.

I had two disturbing ones yesterday and one weird one.
The first was rather short. Someone brought me a calf that had got a nail from a fence stuck in it's jaw. I had to take it out, and first I pulled the nail out, and then I started tearing open the skin around the wound, to look under it for something. The calf didn't seem to mind at all, and it seemed perfectly normal, but when I woke up I was grossed out that I had about half the skin on the calf's head peeled back when I woke up.
The next dream was very strange and very disturbing. I dreamed I was about to watch Anti-Trust on WGN. The credits came up, and after it faded away it cut to a shot of a mall. The camera was slowly panning across the inside of the mall, and the only sound was the sound of an old-style projector running. There were a bunch of deformed people panicking and screaming. The first one that stuck in my head was this guy whose ears were growing as I watched, getting long and floppy, then his nostrils started turning themselves inside-out, so his nose instead had two tentacles - the tentacles started reaching towards his eyes and the camera panned away just in time - to a topless young woman who had a growth about the size of an infant or a big rat moving around under her skin. A group of people were standing around her kicking her, apparently trying to kick the thing crawling around under her skin. She was trying to get away but she was somehow fused with a bicycle.
The next dream was weird and related to an online game I play, Anarchy Online. In this game there are teleporter devices called Whompas that lead from town to town. I was looking for one I had heard about but hadn't seen in an area called Broken Shores. I found it, and when I went through I was in an abandoned church, and there was this pool of rainbow-colored glowing stuff. I left the church (it looked kinda like an old mission) and I was in Greenville, TX, where I lived until I met my wife. I started walking down the street, and then realized I didn't live there anymore, so I went back to the church. I went in and was about to go in the pool, but I stuck my hand in it first and it felt cold and sticky, kinda like congealed milk. I didn't want to go in it. Then I saw someone at the door, and when I turned to look they ducked back behind the door, but I could somehow tell it was Stevie Nicks. I was afraid and then I woke up.

But check out mine. I had this dream the night before WTC.
A bad guy and I are standing in a skydiving plane. We've just kicked the crap out of each other, and the plane's going down. He's wearing a parachute. I'm not. I yell "Let's go!" and we both jump out of the plane to finish duking it out in midair.
Somehow I wrestle the parachute from him and strap it onto me. I give him the finger and pull the cord. He falls to his death, but instead of floating to the ground, I float upwards. Soon I'm in the stratosphere. A plane is nearby, so I float over and start knocking on the window so they can take me down or let me in.
The people inside the plane are panicking, and one of them is shouting into a radio. One guy sees me and gives the "just a minute" sign. At that point I woke up.
I realize a lot of airplanes look alike, but when I saw the second plane hit the tower, the first thing I thought was "Holy shit - that's the same plane!"

I had a dream where I was on a plane a couple of days before WTC too. In it some government people were after this CD-ROM my wife had. The plane looked like one of those big military ones they carry tanks and stuff in, not a passenger one. Someone outside the plane started shooting into it with a machine gun, and I tried to shield my wife from the bullets with my body.

Had a plane drean The Night Before , too. A whacko friend of my husbands was flying a black barnstormer, with my husband in the pasenger seat, The pilot was aiming the plane at the ground. I was screaming "WTF are you idiots doing?!?" and my husband responded," Aw, lighten up, this is fun."

My dream last night:
I was in a department store. Some people were picking on Prince (yeah, that little singer guy). I stuck up for him and helped him get out the door. As a thank you, he gave me an apartment building.

I had a rather surreal one recently--nothing horrifying or seemingly prophetic, just very strange:
I was walking down the street with a friend of mine and a young woman who seemed familiar in the dream, but whom I've never met IRL. She was very thin, with dark hair, and had a green sweatshirt tied around her waist by the sleeves--like she had been wearing over her tshirt until it got too warm. She and I were debating the nature of causality, with considerable confidence on each side. She insisted that time is symmetrical, so causality is as well--that is, cause and effect are interchangeable. I seemed to be sticking by the position that time is nonlinear, and that causality is an illusion caused by the random clustering of unrelated events in a single sample of the sheaf of quantum-theoretical Many Worlds.
I have no idea why I held that position, or why I recall the dream, or where the street was (I didn't recognize the place), or even who won the argument. My dreams (when I remember them) tend to be more visceral--fighting, climbing, playing music, things like that--and less intellectual. I do understand why my friend, who remained silent throughout the dream, kept looking at us like we were crazy.
Dreams are strange things.

I've been having a LOT of nightmares lately, last night was the first time in about a week that I remembered a dream that didn't scare me, but I had another freaky one the night before. About all I can remember was I was being chased by Nicole Kidman (?!?) through a mansion that was made out of ice. She had blades coming out of her forearms and she was slashing at me with them. She actually cut me a few times, and though I usually wake up soon after being hurt in a dream I didn't in this one, probably because I'd been up for about 36 hours the day before and had been moving, so I was very tired. I kept slipping on the ice, she'd catch me and slash me a couple of times, and then somehow I'd be ahead of her and running again.

I had a dream I went to sleep and while I was napping, somebody put 4" fake fingernails on all of my toes. Yes, I really am a truly boring person. :)

Hmm...let's see. One of them is going to talk to a religious person, and the other is talking to the Rice Crispies guys. Well, haven't you ever heard of "Snap, Crackle, Pope"?
Think I'll stop there while I'm ahead....

Well, I'm back to having bad nightmares again. Day before yesterday I had about eight dreams, none of them particularly unpleasant or disturbing. I can only remember two from that day of intense dreaming - in one I went out into my garage to get my dog Hector. He wasn't in the garage, but I noticed an open brown metal door on the side of the garage that I had never noticed before, kinda like the garage door but only about 2 1/2 feet high. I crouched to look out the door, figuring Hector left through it, and saw a lizard walk by - it's head looked somewhat like an iguana's, but it's tail was translucent and frilly like that of a tropical fish. I couldn't figure out what kind of lizard had a tale like that, then realized I had to be dreaming and woke up. In the other dream I was at a mall and there were various kinds of dinosaurs about, and I knew that the dinosaurs were conditioned to never attack a human being, so I felt safe. I don't remember many details about that dream, just that the dinosaurs were somewhat peripheral to it all, they just happened to be there.
Well, the dream I had the next day (I sleep days) made up for all the non-scary dreams I'd been having. I dreamed that across the world the dead were rising from their graves. There were also large packs of dinosaurs roaming about, kinda like the 'raptors in Jurassic Park but stockier. It was late afternoon and everybody knew that when the sun went down the undead and the dinosaurs would devour the remaining humans, there was something that was preventing them from hurting us until then. I felt a strong sense of hopelessness in the dream. I think that a large portion of the population already turned into either undead or insane cannibals, the city seemed mostly deserted but I remember meeting a few people. I wanted to call my parents to tell them goodbye but I could not remember their phone number. I couldn't find my wife and stepdaughter so I went looking for them - I started walking west down this road that lead out into the country. I came to an abandoned building in the middle of nowhere, and I saw the sun was about to go down. I started thinking that maybe I could survive when the sun went down and went into the building and up to the second floor, but I saw out the window that there were undead and dinosaurs everywhere and they knew where I was - throughout the dream I kept thinking about how everybody was doomed, this was the end of humanity, and I kept thinking about how all my loved ones were going to die horrible deaths in a few hours. I started looking for some liquor, I decided that I would try to get as drunk as possible before sundown so I wouldn't feel as much pain when the dinosaurs and undead ate me, but I couldn't find any. I then woke up and I was actually crying and was very relieved that the dream was over - throughout the dream I was absolutely convinced that it was completely real, despite the absurdity of it all.

hey i will look up some of these images in a book i have and see what it says. it lists traditional associated meanings and then questions to ask yourself to find personal meanings.
i started to read this book called.. um.. 'when rivers flow upwards and..' er.. ok i'll look that up too. but anyways, it was really interesting what i read before leaving the book at a friend's apartment months ago. there are different levels of interpretation one can do: physical, where dream images may be symbolic of the body and its health, and/or emotional, spiritual, etc. dreams of buildings particularly are related to the body i think. i found it interesting also, that it mentioned one way to think about a dream is seeing -everything- in the dream as a representation of yourself in some way.
i had a disconcerting dream recently too. one of those teeth falling out ones. i just reached into my mouth and pulled out the back two teeth on the right side. there was no pain or blood, just a slight crunch sound and the feeling of pulling lego blocks apart. if i remember right, teeth falling out dreams indicate change coming, which is true for me. later i also dreamed a baby sinking to the bottom of a pool was rescued and given to me. when i went to change swimming suits i asked baby its name and it said roberto with an accent. (baby..new life.. changing suits.. new job.. accent.. new place.. ya that funky subconscious processing!)
ok i'll go find that book and look some things up!

ok this book i have is called 'understand your dreams' by alice anne parker. here are some images i found and the 'questions to ask yourself'
from badtz maru's turtle dream:
skyscrapers - lofty aspiration, worldly goals; 'what do i wish to ahieve?'
turtle - protection, perseverance; 'where in my life do i feel safe when i take my time?'
elevator - increased understanding; 'what am i doing to get higher?'
cave - inner or hidden issues, the past; 'what is inside that i wish to explore?'
skin - surface of the self, connetion between inner and outer; 'what is on the surface?'
ears - receptivity; 'what am i open to?' 'what am i ready to hear?'
eating - sustenance, satisfaction; 'what part of myself do i nurture?'
finger - sensitivity, awareness; 'what am i touching?'
river - flowing and active, may include dangerous rapids, may be smooth and tranquil; 'what feelings are actively moving within me?'
travel - movement from one way of life or attitude to another; 'where am i going?' 'where do i want to go?'
underwater - submersion in emotion; 'what emotions am i submerged within?'
i tried to look up some in elfkin's dream but it didn't have cereal. for numbers it says to think of any personal significance of the number. it didn't have an entry for letters or handcuffs.
some steps in the book for analysing a dream include:
what word or phrase best expresses your feeling in the dream?
when is the same feeling present in waking life?
list characters in the dream. what part of you do they represent?
what changes, if any, would you make to the dream?
well! i don't know if any of that is helpful at all. (interesting though!)
(the other book i was trying to remember is Where People Fly and Water Runs Uphill (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0446394629/qid=1002656696/br=1-9/ref=br_lf_b_9/104-7390516-9585543) by Jeremy Taylor.)

I don't usually take the time to help strangers with dream interpretation, but in this case, I must make an acception!
Your dream is classic 'Sex and Chocolate'!
Without knowing you at all, I can deduce from your REM visuals that, as a young child, you caught your parents having sexual relations.
The skyscraper is obviously your father's penis.
The guy in the gray suit was a nutral guide-type figure
somewhat like a narrator or possibly your conscience.
I think that after the trauma of seeing your parents having sex, you felt somewhat guilty about it. You probably lived with many unanswered questions like; "Why did it sound like someone was stirring a big bowl of macaroni and cheese?" or "What was that smell of burning hair?" and........"What the hell were those two big pink things?"!!
Lots of people turn to food to make the bad feelings go away. Chocolate is one of the big ones!
Your turtle figures represent all the chocolate that you've been eating......ie; chocolate turtles. You have to help the turtles reproduce so that you'll never run out of candy and thusly, never have to face the real pain of seeing your parents having sex. Letting them swallow you is not quite clear. I think that maybe you would feel better if you could be dipped in chocolate.
The underwater cave is easy; You'll be thirsty after you eat all those chocolates!
Now! The most important and obvious scene in your dream;
When you came out of the tall building (your father's penis) you saw that the skyscraper was in a thick jungle. This is so classic! The jungle is your mother's bush, dear! So, now we know......the skyscraper is your father's penis, the thick jungle is your mother's pubic hair and the river coming out of the skyscraper?.....Well, I think that's self-explanitory.
You said that there were 3 or 4 turtles that were ready to take you away. Now this is VERY important! You must remember! Was it 3 or 4? They have vastly different meanings and I wouldn't want to muddy my interpretation with mere guessing.
Why the turtles would grow each day? Because of the weight gain you'll experience with all of the chocolate eating.
Now we come to another important part of your dream.
the order in which your body parts would be consumed;
In this classic case of sex, guilt and chocolate it is easy to see why the parts would be eaten in that particular order......
On that fateful night of mother and father.....sexing, you were probably asleep in your bed only to be awakened by a strange noise. You were assulted audiably, thus, you would give up your ears first so as not to have to hear anything like that again.
The second thing you would have to sacrifice would be your fingers. After you heard the odd noises, you crept ever so softly to your parents' room. Your little fingers pushed the door open only to reveal the horror before you.
So, you give up your cursed fingers.
Lastly, I can predict with a fair amount of certainty that, had your dream continued, you would have next given up your eyes (the things that saw) followed by your tounge, which screamed and gagged at the sight of parents copulating.
As soon as you got on the turtle's back, you woke up. What do you think THAT means?!! That's right! You were done sleeping.
Now I'm going for that Snickers that's laying on the counter!

Got another one for you, this from this past weekend (I remember weekend dreams best because I wake without an alarm.)
I, along with three women I worked with last summer, was out in the woods, digging up a skeleton for the historical society. Why I don't know, but we were. As we dug up the body we noticed that there were a whole bunch more, so we dug them up too, thinking that the historical society would be really happy about it. The bodies came with little plastic packets of ID information, isn't that nice? At first we thought that finding all the bodies was great, but then we wondered how it would look to the police. Maybe they would think we were grave robbing, even though it was the woods, not a cemetary. So we put some cardboard boxes on picnic tables, and threw the skulls and ID in one box, and the rest of the bones in another. I think we were going to eventually put the bones back, but before we decided for sure, someone used a machine to rip part of the woods away. Seriously, it was like the land was an island, and something yanked it away, neat looking. But unfortunately, as soon as that part of the woods went away, the area where it was filled up with water. We lost the picnic table with the box of bones, they sort of driffed off to nowhere, but we saved the skull box. Then we were in the library of a house (maybe it was the historical society building) and we needed to find a safe place for the skulls and the ID stuff, because the room was shaking, and I think it was starting to flood too. Then I started to tell people that maybe when it got dark we should throw the skulls outside into the water, since the water would wash our fingerprints off, and I thought we could still get in trouble for grave robbing even with just them and the IDs should be enough for the historical society. I was out-voted, and the skulls were stashed in a big "safe" cabinet. Then some woman came downstairs as we were walking out of the library and promised to make us juice while we got ready to go swimming. The last thing that happened before I woke up was that I felt a little embarassed about putting on a bikini...
With dreams like mine, who needs drugs?
