On the radio this morning they reported on two local men who were collecting donations for the Red Cross. Only it turns out they weren't from the Red Cross. They just wanted the money for themselves.
Nice. Their moms must be so proud.

I hope the judge sentences them with community service--to be performed at the Red Cross...

I have yet to put any money into any of the buckets that have been thrust under my nose at Wal-Mart, Kroger, stoplights, and other places since 9/11.
I give my money to organizations I know.

I'd prefer "shame sentencing." Make them walk eight hours a day in front of a mall wearing a sign that says "I STOLE MONEY BY PRETENDING TO BE FROM THE RED CROSS." Works on shoplifters.

Nah nah nah...
Make them do it in front of a NYC hospital with recovering WTC victims inside, so they have to face the families.

And make sure all of the televisions stations pick up the story and shoot some clips of the bastards, just in case someone else was thinking of this crap, they might think better of it.
Public punishment/humiliation is the way to go.

A guy here in Baltimore did that; went door-to-door soliciting donations. He even made up a fake Red Cross ID card.
He managed to get all of $9 before someone called the cops and they arrested him.
What an ass.
I like the idea of Shame Sentencing!

That's nothing. There was SPAM going around within a day of the attacks, linking to a site where you could supposedly donate to the Red Cross, but actually fed into the spammers accounts. Sick sick sick sick bastards.
