I did a 30-day search for the poster named "Cecil Adams" and came up with zilch. I don't often check out the "Comments on Cecil's Columns," but when I do, I search for Cecil's comments. Has he stopped posting for some reason, or is the search engine screwy?

I've only seen one post by Cecil. I don't recall much about it, but I think it was in GQ, 6 or 8 months ago.

Damn lousey search engine....

OK, the most recent Cecilpost that I can find is dated the 10th of December: http://www.straightdope.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000352.html

Thanks, SoulFrost. Now why didn't the search engine work for me, I wonder? I've heard they've been having trouble with it, though. No big deal, just was curious.

I just typed the word "Cecil" into the "Search for member" box. I got two different Cecils, and the engine claimed that almost all of them were in a thread about Percussion...go figure!

Oh, that may explain it--I typed in the whole name, "Cecil Adams." That should have worked, but it didn't.

Cecil's not an everyday presence on the board. He reads the board, certainly, but comments rarely.

It's not that he doesn't care, it's just that he's damned busy.

And yes, the search engine is not very good, it's an ongoing problem that we are aware of and we have bugged the techs over it for ages. We hope to have some improvements shortly.

Cecil, if you come to MPSIMS, you can post about the date glitch in one of the Y2K threads. Please please please come to MPSIMS? It'll be like The Rapture [TM] in there if you post.

Don't worry, I'm still here. I've just been a little preoccupied. Everybody in the frigging world knows about Y2K, and what's the one place that has a problem? I call your attention to Monday's Mailbag (since fixed), which bore the date "01-Jan-1900."

Oh, Little Eeeeeadddddddddd ...

Cecil, if you get a chance, drop on over to Great Debates and meet our new friends. I’m sure they’d love to meet the object of our worship!

You know, it's kinda strange to see Cecil's only an "Administrator." I think he should have a higher rank; after all, he IS the whole reason everyone comes here. Perhaps a title like "Royal Grand High Glittery Question Answerer" would more accurately describe how we see him. Or even "Not Ed Zotti."

Oh, hang on...I don't actually get anything for sucking up, do I? ...pfft. Disregard this post, then.

I always check out posters' homepages, but yours is the coolest I've seen! (There's some circular logic here somewhere... :))
