***WARNING!!! IF YOU'RE EASILY FREAKED OUT BY THESE THINGS DO NOT READ ANY FARTHER!!!***

Okay, now that everyone who might e-mail about the nightmares I've caused them have left, I've got a question about the 10/19/01 issue of USA Today (I know, I know, but bear with me, will ya?) it says that there's been 3,300 cases where people have called into authorities saying that they thought they'd found anthrax. This is what caused me to scratch my head in puzzlement:Of the 3,300, Mueller says, 2,500 were anthrax scares.

Mueller, of course, is the FBI director. What I'm wondering, is if I'm reading this sentence correctly. It seems to be saying that there's been 800 cases where there's actually been something there. Can this be right?

Does this help clarify things?

• Hundreds of anthrax hoaxes are straining what FBI Director Robert Mueller described Thursday as "an already overburdened enforcement system." Mueller said his agency has investigated 3,300 chemical or biological threats in the last 18 days. Of those cases, 2,500 involved anthrax threats.
