What is/where can I find the complete "hunting rabbits, vicar?" joke.

It sounds familar for some reason, although it could be something Gaiman made up.

I think it was really just in there so Gaiman could show the same stupid joke being told 400 years apart.

That sure showed some insight into the human condition to me!

Hob's story was one of the more interesting sub-plots in Sandman. His guilt over slaving, coming to a head when he dated a black girl, was excellent. The man changed with the times.

...which is precisely what he said people didn't do (or not in the important things) in the first story. He was sort of a mirror for the Sandman in that.
