Cats are spamming us now.

Several spam threads today have featured titles such as:ghghdfdfrrrsdeavedgdgd.

Proof it's cats:

Only a cat would post such a thing ... maybe we should set out some cardboard boxes and try and trap a few ...

Great. Now they're gonna pee inappropriately and claw the furniture.

RivkahChaya 01-01-2017 06:40 PM

I can usually buy mine off with some 'nip, and either a little canned food, or some Greenies for cats.

Good thing we have an engineer around ... they know how to deal with cats ...

Trancephalic 01-01-2017 07:12 PM

Well, most computers come with mice and a bug or two.

kayT 01-01-2017 07:32 PM

Don't worry about the cats; five minutes of paying attention followed by 20 hours of nap.

This is true.

Count Blucher 01-01-2017 08:09 PM

You know, I wasn't sure how to answer this... so I asked someone for advice.

"Murr-eeew...?"
"put-put-purr..."

Siam Sam 01-02-2017 12:54 AM

Could be a cat. I've noticed a few pussies around here.

This being the Dope, I feel obligated to provide a link to pawSense software.
Quote:

PawSense constantly monitors keyboard activity. PawSense analyzes keypress timings and combinations to distinguish cat typing from human typing. PawSense recognizes a cat on the keyboard within one or two pawsteps
:)

If it didn't cost 20 bucks, I'd install it for fun.

Biotop 01-02-2017 04:14 AM

The time and annoyance that software would have saved me in the past! I've often been driven to the point of madness trying to figure out what the hell my cat did to the computer. It's as if he has the soul of a fiendish hacker!

Thuringwethil 01-03-2017 02:56 PM

Secretly???

1] Open can of tuna
2] Threaten to give to dog

That should fix the problem ...

Kamino Neko 01-03-2017 07:48 PM

Vile slander! We are not spammers!

As the grandmother of a precocious just-turned 2 year old, I can attest that they, too, have the souls of fiendish hackers. I am still trying to restore my smart phone to full functionality after the aforesaid toddler pilfered it from my purse on Christmas.

A two-year-old would do so inadvertently ... cats do so with pure malice aforethought ... there's only so much cat pee a keyboard can withstand ...

AHunter3 01-05-2017 01:30 PM

Each time I see this thread title, I get "Cats are spamming us, cats are spamming us" earworming me to the tune of umm, you already know, don't you...

Sunspace 01-06-2017 08:24 AM

We must distract the cats! Time to get them drunk.

I'm not so worried about my cats spamming as I am about them discovering 1-click amazon ordering. OTOH, that could explain this.

What better way to get a giant cardboard box to play in?

:smack:

Why didn't I think of that? After all, you can't just order a big empty box from Amazon.

Azeotrope 01-06-2017 03:17 PM

Ummm, I hate to break it to ya... :D

Fail! One star.

Darren Garrison 01-06-2017 03:24 PM

I once had a cat rename a file on my desktop something in the vein of the above ghghdfdfrrrsdeavedgdgd, except much longer. Much worse was when one (somehow) managed to delete a folder filled with hundreds of files from my desktop without sending it to the recycling bin. I had to try 3 shareware undelete programs before I found one that could recover all the files.

ftg 01-06-2017 03:30 PM

I can haz Dvorak keyboard?

watchwolf49 01-06-2017 03:47 PM

It took four cans of tuna ... but I got one of my cats to admit this thread has gone viral on the caternet ... I hope the SDMB IT gurus have robust catnip filters in place ... apparently there's world-wide feline animosity forming ... us teeming millions need to secure our keyboards for the next few days ...

I've tried, but the moderators don't accept "My cat did it" anymore ...

Cartoonacy 01-06-2017 04:26 PM

CATS: How are you gentlemen!! All your base are belong to us. You are on the way to destruction.

Azeotrope 01-06-2017 07:10 PM
