P1: Cognition is a property or behavior that exists in the physical world.

P2: If an emulation is sufficiently detailed and complete, that emulation can exactly duplicate properties and behaviors of what it's emulating.

P3: It's possible to create a sufficiently detailed and complete emulation of the real world.

C1: It's possible to create an emulation that can exactly duplicate properties and behaviors of the real world. (P2 and P3)

C2: It's possible to create an emulation that can exactly duplicate cognition. (C1 and P1)

So there's my proof. It's logically sound, so the way to refute it is to attack the premises. Here's how that goes:

Refutation of P3: "Emulation can't simulate reality, and never will!"
Refutation of P2: "Emulation is impossible!"
Refutation of P1: "Cognition is magic! WOOO!"

Choose whichever you like. (Christoph Koch chooses P1.)
