This story does not surprise me in the least, but I am surprised that this person would publish all of these things on the net. IMHO she (he?) is asking for a libel suit. She says that she has proof of all of this, but it might not be so easy in court. Note to the OP, repubilcation (possibly even posting the link) could subject you to the same libel suit. Be careful, not only in who you trust but also what you post. The law in relation to the internet is in its infancy and very unsettled.

The funny thing is, even some of the most normal seeming people you can meet online, can fuck you over quite nicely.

My situation wasn't as bad as all that, and probably wasn't even much of a situation. But I trusted someone, and was betrayed as well.

Makes you a little more cautious.

That's weird. Speaking of meeting untrustworthy online people in real life: when I met Melanie at the NYC SDMB meeting, I tried to give her herpes, too. Yeah. I had some in a little vial from my lab that I wanted to give her as a gift. She wouldn't take it though.

Psshhht. Women.

Wouldnt you kind of pick up on it when she turned up with everything she owned??? Some people are totally clueless and make themselves victims

I've been lucky. I've met four online people so far, and none of them were freaky.

OK, there was that one woman who showed up for our first meet with her two kids....

And there was that one woman who said she told someone she wished she was my girlfriend, then vanished after I < gasp > kissed her goodnight....

And then there was the one who was married. I left that one alone.

But other than those, I've had great luck with online relationships!

Seriously, I think that online relationships are no less safe than, say,

1.personal ads

2.singles bars

3.dating coworkers (yeah, you get to know them a little better, but the risks if the realationship falls through...Oy!)

4. Blind dates

5. dating in general, when the person you're talking to isn't someone you've known for years

6.Hell, someone you've known for years can get spooky once you've done the matress mambo.

It seems to me that if you use a little common sense, then online meets can go just fine. Sometimes, they can work out wonderfully (Hi, Sue!).

I hate to say it, but I have absolutely no sympathy for this guy. He was taken in by a pretty face and a sob story, and look what came of it. I wonder just how much more he' going to let her get away with for the sake of her children before this is all over? It seems to me that their needs would be best served by proving that she is an unfit mother, and if she is really prostituting herself in the same house that they live in, (which he suspects, but has no direct evidence of), then that would be an excellent place to start. I wish him the best of luck trying to get his place back.

I met my personal angel over the internet. I signed the guestbook of the David Bowie fan page, & there was a space for what city you lived in, & another user emailed me & said he had a weekend place out in the city where I lived. We met up one weekend, & we liked each other, & we ended up going to see Bowie together (this was two years ago.) At the time, I was in this really toxic relationship which I just couldn't get out of...the guy I met online was really a good person & he helped me leave. We dropped out of each others' lives a month or so later, amicably...not everyone on the 'Net is a child-pornography-crazed, living-in-mom's-basement-type psycho...

I can give you an update on OfficeGirl.

She was going to meet netboy. Then she and I started talking for a month and a half or so. Netboy was being an asshole, whereas she found out I wasn't an asshole.

Then she changed her mind and made plans to come meet me and such in Seattle.

Second day on the road she changed her mind and left a voice mail saying "I'll explain later".

Fast forward 9 days later, no one has heard from her (not even her family except for one email when she told them she was in canada).

<Shrug> Once a flake, always a flake.

No cold, this is what happened.

She and I talked and hit it off great. I had a place for her to stay and all (just as a roomie and all).

Then the day before the left i found out from her family that she talked to the Austrailian guy again, then while on the trip she changed her mind and went to meet him.

We haven't heard from her since she got to Canada, over the weekend she told her Family she liked it there and might stay there (with no visa or wnything so she couldn't work) no word since then.

I am a bit concerned. And also a bit hurt based on what she said to me and such and then she just up and disappeared without giving me any reason or anything.

Basically we are all concerned, and upset.

But I have moved on and just hope she's ok.

(BTW in the posts when she sais she was meeting someone on this board she had incredibly strong feelings for... <points to self>... gullable moron extraordinaire!)

Not that I'm bitter or anything.

she is trading her coochie for $$$

That line just really struck me as the perfect name for a new game show:

Coochie for dollars!

I still can't get over what a total dumb ass this guy is. If anyone, even a member of MY OWN FAMILY showed up on my doorstep with all their belongings I'd laugh myself into a hemorrhage before I'd let them set one foot in the door. And a STRANGER! Get real! Get a clue! Get therapy!

Oh, gosh, she had kids.... wha, wha! If I turn them out what will they do? They'd go on to the next sucker on the list, sucker! I have no sympathy at all!

If you are going to bend over, grease your checks and then put sand up your ass someone, SOMEONE, will come along and pound it in.
