Techchick68 banned? When did that happen?

I was looking through an old thread and saw the BANNED under her moniker. I did a search and came up with zilch.

Old school dopers seem to be dropping like flys these days.

didn't she go all bonkers when a friend of hers had a friend diy or was dying or something?
The board is too slow for me to bother with searching (i'd probably kill it today)

I saw that thread, but I didn't really think she'd get banned for having a really bad day. But yeah, World eater, I was surprised when I ran across that myself.

I believe she was only suspended or told to take a break from the boards that night when she was so out there after her friend's daughter died. She then went over to LJ and posted some really messed up stuff, including threats to the SDMB. I believe it was after that she was officially banned.

Her LJ account was deleted also, though I have no idea if that has anything to do with the other.

And...I could just be talking from my ass and not knowing what the "true" story is. That's just what I remember going down right around that time period.

I hope she is doing okay because those last few posts of hers and her LJ was really scary.

Ah fuck, that sounds horrible. To bad she wasn't suspended before she could shoot herself in the foot.

I seem to remember Lynn posting that techchick68 had her posting privileges suspended, but then she threatened to hack the boards in her live journal, so the administration made the ban permanent.

The board's running too slowly for me to search for the thread, but what basically happened is as Aries said. I believe she started a thread here in the pit calling out all the people who having attacking each other over politics. I can't remember when exactly it was, but it was this year (and I wanna say around the summer -- I think the catalyst were the series of post-Iraq war threads). She was upset over her friend's daughter dying (or daughter's friend dying, not sure which it was). Her tone was near hysterical with grief and anguish.

Either Lynn or TubaDiva suspended her so she could collect herself. That's when it turned up that, following that suspension, she used her LiveJournal to ask for help from a banned Doper to hack the boards. She was banned after that came to light with the administration, and her LiveJournal account was deleted very shortly after that.

I wasn't involved in what happened, nor did I have an interest in what happened, but that incident has always stuck out in my mind. I do hope she's doing better now; that thread really had me worried.

She deleted her LJ because she said something about how she didn't like what it was doing to her, how she acted when she posted a lot and how she wasn't really like that in real life.

I'm aware of that phenomenon, when I post too much and/or develop personal relationships on message boards this socially self-destructive crazy element comes out in my personality. I think it's due to over-exposure to yourself (narcissism) and the feedback from having people commenting on your personal feelings...it kinda feeds it. Sometimes having an outlet is a bad thing.

Her final thread was a major meltdown. One of worst I've ever seen. It was "how can you Pit such trivial stuff when I've had a major personal disaster?" She was a major wreck.

She could have come back in a couple of days until the LJ post which someone must have showed to the Administration. Threatoning to hack the SDMB is one of those zero tolerance things. You do it once, you can never return.

see for yourself, the thread, at least.

I believe I saw Lynn mention in another thread about the LJ threats to hack, and yes, they have zero tolerance about that.

IIRC, Tubadiva or someone similar had tech on a friends list on LJ, so that was hard to miss. Plus I think the topic came up on the LJ sdmb community, which at least a few mods read at the time.

I urge you to read the thread World Eater, it's a meltdown not easily described months later.

You kind of have to witness it yourself.

Wow. Just....wow.

I liked techiechick, although I don't think we ever had much contact. I really hope she's gotten through her grief and is feeling better.

Boy, that's an ugly thread.

I was in a similar situation early this year, I had lost my job, my father died suddenly, and I was having problems in my home that drove me to anxiety disorder even before I was laid off and my Dad died. But I never went so nuts to think others shouldn't discuss other topics and go about their lives. I'm sure I had other equally bad responses though, they just didn't manifest themselves in threads that could be viewed months and years later....

Oh sweet Christ that was ugly, I'm almost sorry I asked.

What a way to go out after being here since '99, what a shame.

I was going to post that link, but I couldn't bring myself to do so. What a train wreck.

I never met Techchick68 but I have read a lot of her posts. I just hope someone in Colorado is there for her. I guess we will never know anything further regarding a remarkable and out spoken poster.

I was terribly upset when I heard that Tech'ems was booted. It was even worse because, at the time, I was almost never online, and missed the whole thing. It was a really shitty thing to come back and hear about...

Note to self: Drop her a line...

To clarify, the timing of events is:
techchick68 acts emotionally in a thread. The administration suspends her until she can calm down. Immediately after that, techchick68, incensed by her suspension, threatens in her livejournal (linked to the SDMB community) to hack the board and invites banned posters to communicate with her so that she and they can coordinate efforts to spam the board. After that she is banned.

Thanks Arnold.

I wonder if she was conspiring with the Grapist.

What concerned me most was her state of well-being. There was a very drastic personality change.

Just in my opinion, her anger didn't seem to be so much of a "You have to commiserate with me" thing. It seemed to be almost a "How can you go on with your normal conversations when such a hideous thing as this death has happened?" kin of thing.

Now that the question has been answered, can we have this thread deleted? Having a link to Techchick's emotional collapse is like watching the Paris Hilton sex video . . .

Last I heard, she's perfectly fine. She's got another lj and still interacts with many of her old friends from here.

I will close the thread since the question has been answered, and remind posters that the FAQ - guidelines for posting at the SDMB says
Quote:
If you have a question about bannings / banned users, the staff prefer that you e-mail a staff member (administrator or moderator) rather than asking publicly on the board.
