strange places you've met SO's

In this thread, Zebra mentions that trying to pick women up on the subway isn't really effective (which is generally true). Now, since I met an ex on T on the way to work a few years ago, it got me thinking - what are some strange places you've met SOs or dates?

The meeting on the T (Boston subway) was pretty odd - we were both on the way to work, very early (about 6:30am), and the T was quite empty, being early even for commuters. I had a bunch of stuff w/ me, as it was mother's day that Sunday and I was going to my parents' house for the weekend. I got on the train, and we kind of looked at each other and smiled a bit (I'm a little shy when it comes to that kind of thing, at least at first).
We both got off at the same stop to switch from the green line to the red line, and he trotted after me and asked for my number! Without hesitation, I said yes. To this day I don't know why I did, because that's not usually my style, but I did. We ended up dating for about three months - it was one of those very intense, quick-moving relationships that fizzled out just as quickly.

Second strange meeting place - my college health center. I went in for flu-like symptoms, and he was there for strep. He came into the waiting room after me, and sat down. We did the "look at each other, look away" thing for a few minutes, then he asked if he knew me, b/c I looked familiar (I'm pretty sure this wasn't a line, because a lot of people say that to me - I think I have one of those faces that looks like everyone else?). We got to talking, and traded numbers. He called a few days later, and we went out on a really great date! Who woulda thunk it?
Then he didnt' call for a few days....I was kind of sad, but was going to give it a few more days before I called him. Then I ran into him coming out of a bar near my apt (he was coming out of the bar, I was on my way home from work). Apparently, he'd lost my number and had just stopped by my apt and left his number w/ my roommate! I felt special - he'd gone into the bar to have a drink and hang out in case I called, b/c he lived sort of far away. Unfortunately, he was going to Europe for the summer about two weeks after we met, so nothing ever came of it, but he was a really nice guy and we had fun.

I met my fiance on Yahoo! Personals, which isn't that strange, but I like to tell people how we met because I like talking about him.

Anybody else have unusual meeting stories?

I have a friend who met his girlfriend in the bathroom. Supposedly the story goes that he stepped through the wrong door (!) and ran into her, literally, and after he helped her to stand up he realized that he was in the wrong bathroom and bolted for the door.

She chased him down a little ways away and thanked him for helping her up and making sure she was okay. And they've been dating for a few weeks now.

It was the first day of my first career job. Just out of grad school, recruited by a large federal agency, arrive at the in-processing center, and they have no record of my employment.

They call someone, verify that I do in fact have a job (reassuring, seeing as I had moved 500 miles, signed a lease on an apartment, etc.), and send me over to wait in the lobby until they can get the paperwork together.

Meanwhile the twenty or so other new hires are getting processed. They fill out their paperwork, and get in line to get their security badge photos taken.

The line moves along for a bit, and then stops. I see the flash of the camera going again and again, but the line isn't moving. Eventually, a young woman comes out from behind the divider, and heads out to the lobby and sits down next to me.

The requirement for the security photo is that the subject have their eyes open. This young lady had a severe reaction to flashbulbs, and simply was unable to keep her eyes open when the flash went off. In order to get things moving again, they kicked her out of line until everyone else was done.

We got to talking, and, by the time they called for her to come sit for her photo again (it took about twenty attempts before they managed to get one where she was merely squinting), we found that we had both moved from distant locations, had settled into the same apartment complex, and agreed to car pool to work.

Within a couple of weeks, one thing had lead to another. We were together for a year or so, and stayed friends for the three years I worked there.

(A month later, they changed the security badges, and everyone had to get a new photo. It took her at least thirty tries!)

How very Jerry Springer, Kalhoun!

I met mine at the most crazy, psycho, effed-up MB on the planet*. The strangest part is that in that sea of madness, two (nominally) sane people were able to find each other. I wonder how those two people are doing, because Amber and I are great!

*No, it wasn't the SDMB

My husband and I went to the same school but hadn't really met. One night we were both at a party in a park and I was mad at my boyfriend because he didn't want to go to the prom with me (he was a couple years older and out of school). So I went up to this random guy and asked him. His response was "We'll see." He came to a party at my house the next night (we were quite the party animals back then), and by the next weekend I had dumped my boyfriend to be with him. We've been together ever since!
