Is there anything to be gained by talking about 2012's College Football this early?

I need a CFB fix! What makes sense to talk about here in March? The NFL Draft? Recruiting? The new conferences? The 2012 schedules? Surely there's something we can get into for all us die-hard CFB fans...

Could also talk about spring scrimmages and depth charts.

Big surprise. Phil has Texas at only 22. I'd figure they'd be much higher after their fantastic recruiting year.

I don't see this as a surprise at all. Until Texas figures out the quarterback situation, they won't be a good team. Also, very few of the incoming class will be difference makers in year one. I'd say that J. Gray is really the only player who will play a huge role this year, and even he won't likely start.

Mike Leach is the new coach at my Alma. Throw the shit out of it. We can’t make lineman but we sure can make quarterbacks.

The O-Line is one of the more interesting aspects of Leach's offense. They are spread out considerably further than your typical line. Also, a Leach quarterback is usually someone who has been in his system a few years and is smart. The emphasis is on timing and accuracy.

I guess in a little surprised that Mizzou didn't make his top 24. After a rough start the returning Qb (junior James Franklin) really turned it on. They also added the #1 recruit in the country WR Dorial Green-beckman. SEC here we come.

Even with DGB, Missouri only had the #31 recruiting class according to rivals.com. Ten of your new conference rivals were ranked higher. Welcome to the SEC.

There's a breakdown of the new conferences for the 124 teams now in the Bowl Subdivision at 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season but I have yet to find any early rankings estimates of all 124. Anybody else know of such?

I don't put a lot of stock into recruiting class rankings (Texas consistently has a top class according to the rankings, and it hasn't worked out for them the last few seasons), as a 18 year old is still developing. It seems that kids will be 3-star until a top school gives an offer, and all of a sudden they're 5-star players.

As for Missouri, they have produced NFL quality players with the top schools in the nation recently. And none of them were top recruits as seniors in high school.

I'm probably the only one here who thought you were talking about Alma (MI) College.

I have yet to find anything after January that attempts a ranking of all 124 FBS teams, so I decided to fake such a thing. Using
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_NC...ootball_season I got:

and changing the new teams from AA to A (marked with <====) and then stripping off the other AA teams we have:

It ought to be fun to watch how Sagarin and Rivals and others change their opinions after things get organized and spring ball has been evaluated.

There are quite a few Top 25 or Top x-number lists already with http://www.lsufootball.net/articles/...ason-polls.htm
likely to have as good a summary as is available.

Post links to any other such lists you're aware of, please.

Sagarin doesn't have an opinion. It's a computer ranking wholly based on last year. It won't change until actual games are played in 2012.

I've actually been to their stadium for high school track invitationals. Nice little place, great concessions, the only problem is for some stupid reason the main stands face west, directly into the afternoon sun.

Wisconsin grabs another ACC quarterback graduate transfer, Danny O'Brien of Maryland. Whew, because the Wisconsin QB cupboard was damn near close to empty thanks to injuries. O'Brien's actually got two years of eligibility left, so no need to rush the guy most UW fans are crossing their fingers for, Bart Houston of out De La Salle in the California Bay Area.

Oklahoma State went from a 28 year old to an 18 year old true freshman at QB.

The new guy has prom next week I think. It's gonna be a fun adjustment...

Wow. I'm not familiar with the situation- how could a 28 year old have been eligible? Military service?

He was a baseball player for a few years playing minor league ball. He decided to go to school when it was clear his baseball career wasn't progressing too fast and now he's a professional football player.

There are a few other people like that. John Beck, the former Redskins QB, was pretty old as a rookie (30?) since he spent a few years as a missionary.

Probably the most noteworthy was Chris Weinke who won the Heisman as a 28 year old.

I'm down for the list of Must See games. Miami vs Notre Dame in Chicago...#1! (Not really, but I'm excited.)

Defending SEC/BCS Champion Alabama kicks off yet another year of SEC dominance against Michigan, at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX on 9/1/12. My wife should enjoy that one very much, as she's a Buckeye Girl and despises Michigan.

Looking around a bit more, I see Auburn plays Clemson in Atlanta on 9/1/12, and Ole Miss is hosting Texas on 9/15/12. Think that may be a long game for the Rebels. Otherwise, the SEC OOC schedule is....not very impressive this year.

So true, and so sad. The Auburn-Clemson game is a revenge game: until this past season it had been 1951 since Clemson won a game from Auburn. To top that, the College Football Belt was at stake in the 2011 game! Now that's in the hands of WVU, with Marshall getting their first crack at it. I will be watching that game -- if our local stations carry it.

In addition to the "Must See" games which will be primarily for their entertainment and excitement value, I suspect, there's another category that I hadn't seen addressed in a systematic way before

1 'Must-Win' Game on Every FBS Football Team's 2012 Schedule

Which game(s) for your favorite team would you rank ahead of these "Must Win" selections?

Looks like we are another step closer to a playoff to determine the National Champion.

Assuming the university presidents play ball (heh), anyway. Not much in the way of detail as to how the teams will be selected, but there is mention of some preference for conference champions. I would not necessarily oppose one slot each for the SEC, PAC-12, Big 10, Big 12 champs, but I suspect the fans of BYU, Notre Dame, and Boise State wouldn't be happy about it....

Do you get paid by Bleacher Report or something? I'm pretty confident that all of us who are interested in "CFB" can find plenty of information on our own.

If you have something to say, say it; there are a plethora of college football topics that can be discussed. Bumping old threads just to post links to Yahoo is a waste of people's time.

This makes the second thread I've started where you have dropped in to disapprove of the topic and/or my interest in it. It would be more effective, as far as I'm concerned, if you just joined the legions who have failed to comment at all.
