Scranton Strangler ["The Office"]

Have we discussed this before?

Last season, we learned that Toby may have voted to convict a man who may have been innocent. One of my friends told me they'll reopen the story line of the Scranton Strangler and said it was going to be

SPOILER:
Gabe

I searched for this so-called announcement, but seems like it's all just speculation at this point.

So... who do you think is the most likely culprit?

Wasn't the strangler plotline pretty close to when Gabe moved to Scranton from Tallahassee? I don't think he would've had time to become a successful serial killer.

Robert California wouldn't be a bad choice.

And thinking about it some more, making a regular cast member a serial killer would be a really dark turn for the show. They might revisit the strangler thing, but I can't imagine they'll make any of the regular cast be the culprit.

Gabe's move to Scranton preceded the Strangler's first "appearance" by a few episodes, so it's certainly possible. And would also be totally awesome.

The thing is, if the man in the car the police were chasing past the Dunder Mifflin Sabre office wasn't the strangler, why was he fleeing?

Although, it if was
SPOILER:

it would totally make sense.

Remember the
SPOILER:
freaky Halloween short video that made people queasy? That was actually very disturbing.

Speculation posed by friends is not a spoiler, it is speculation. If it turns out to be true, it will still not be a spoiler, it will have been a good guess. But no - I doubt it's Gabe.

I agree, I think it would kill the reruns.
I watch Office re-runs, but I think I'd have a hard time doing it if I knew one of them was a murderer and I was trying to watch for clues the way you re-watch mystery movies or TV dramas once you have the big reveal.

If it was going to be anyone we 'know', I'd hope it was just some one-off character. Maybe someone that they made a sales call to or random UPS person that delivered something to the office. Or at the very most one of the people that Micheal fired from the other branch.
Either way, I'd be surprised if it was anyone that we know.

If the convicted Strangler ends up not being the real killer, Michael's jar of road dirt will lose all its value.

In reading up on the Strangler here, it appears the first mention is in The Delivery when Pam gives birth. Andy gives them a commemorative newspaper of the birth date, but the headline is "SCRANTON STRANGLER STRIKES AGAIN." This is episodes 17/18 of season six.

Gabe's first appearance is in the episode "Sabre" which was the 15th episode of the season six.

So yeah... Definitely possible. The timing certainly works for that theory.

Except... what does the newspaper mean when it says "again"?

Gabe could make sense with the timing of everything, but he seems to have been written off the show. I feel like it would be cheap to make it him.
Personally, I think the Scranton Strangler is, in fact, Toby himself!
He has a lot of the markings of a serial killer: He's a loner (hiding back in the annex all day), not a lot of self-confidence, failure in personal relationships (divorced), fascinated by murder mysteries and he's paid close attention to the Scranton Strangler case. He must have loved putting away the fake Strangler.
PLUS, the writers have said there is a lot to Toby's character that has yet to be revealed...

(PS: I'm brand new to this forum. I specifically joined to hop in on this debate. With that in mind, I'm sorry for not using a Spoiler box. I didn't know how. To be fair, I don't think this is a spoiler, but more speculation.)

Welcome to the Dope, Netikiman. You're right, that's not a spoiler.

To use one though, type (without the spaces): [ spoiler ] spoiler here [ /spoiler ]

So, it looks like this particular thread hasn't had much attention in a while, so I guess I should update.
NBC announced that this will be the last season of the office. By the end of the season we will learn 3 things:
1) Who is filming this documentary
2) Why has it taken so long to film
3)The identity of the Scranton Strangler

Now that this is particularly more relevant, is anyone interested in reopening the debate?

Man, I'm disappointed. I thought this had something to do with professional wrestling!

Yeah, I couldn't tell what the thread was about either, so I added some info to the thread title.
