BTW someone had answered one of my earlier questions re: the similarity between Astral's EOD error and one of the other two games I've played; the person thought I was thinking of the last-minute self-preserving behavior of, uh, someone, which turned out to save his hide. But I don't think that was it. I definitely remember someone getting mixed up about the timing of the EOD and voting, and it wasn't a self-preservational vote. Then the rest of us had a big hullaballoo about whether scum would be likely to forget EOD or not. (Maybe it was Svejk in "The Thrill of the Chase"?) |

I am trying to skim through the thread to catch up. I was dumb enough to take 'too busy to play' literally and have been working on the logistics for starting a new job this past week.
vote Gadarene This is totally meta-gamey and only based on a single game (lame, I know) but since he seems to be getting other votes as well, I may not be totally off base here. The basic issue is that in the last game we played*, he was the talkingest townie in the game and worked very hard to get town to work together. I'm not seeing any of that here and I'm wondering if it means he is scum. * I'm Metallic Squink on Giraffe Boards. |

Vote count
Six votes
My records show that there are six players who have as yet placed no votes; Drain Bead, Fubbleskag, Mosier, Red Skeezix, Storyteller and Tanaer. In addition glee has voted and unvoted without revoting. Remember, I'm fallible, so if you think I've misrepresented a vote - yours or someone else's - please let me know and I'll publish a corrected version. The above vote count is subject to correction from ATPG at any time. |

DAY ONE ENDS IN (just under) ONE HOUR.
I WILL NOT BE AT MY DESK. NO VOTES OR DAY ACTIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED BEYOND THIS POINT. I will return a few hours after midnight to tally it up, post the results of the lynch, calculate the results of your day actions, and publicize the post-battle report. You may continue to speak while this is in progress, you may also send in night actions beyond this point. |

I'm still quite happy with my vote on Visorslash. I just went through the sign up thread and his tone changed from mild ribbing (saying our forum is ugly), to talking about how he's going to kill everyone, right when the first and second third sets of PMs got sent out. Maybe it's too obvious, but it just seems very odd to me. I get the impression that he's the kind of guy that would get a kick out of hinting that he's scum in the beginning, after he first gets his role and is caught up in the excitement. Also, I know I'm Town, and I got my PM very late...

For reference, I'm talking about his posts around the 148 (ribbing) to around 270 (threats). Also, I acted very similar to him in my last mafia game, and I was scum, so I suppose that's why I zeroed in on it so much.
Oh, and I'm male, by the way. |

I did indeed mean to cast a legitimate vote for VS, but screwed it up with formatting. I won't make that mistake again.
I kept quiet for the past two days for two reasons, one being that I was out of town and didn't have casual computer access. The other is that it seems like the people who suspect me seem to take "I'm not scum" arguments as proof that I am indeed scum. I tried posting early, which was evidence of scummery, and I tried laying low, which is further evidence of scummery. Trying to figure out the psychology of this game takes a lot of time and effort, which I have, but also experience, which I don't have. The argument against VisorSlash that I found persuasive, which has been (a bit suspiciously IMO) since redacted, is that his posts to that point had served only to add chaos, confusion, and emotion into the game, which serves scummy purposes more than the town. Suburban Plankton made that argument himself, but now claims it didn't actually happen. Baffling. |

Sorry, I was out of town for the weekend at a bed and breakfast and thought I would have internet access, but I didn't. I also wasn't expecting my Astral vote to legitimately make me the vote leader when all was said and done, but it is what it is, I guess.
Good luck, town. Take it down.

It is the year 10,432...
It is the sixth day of the sixth month. The sun is beginning to set. Godsmack- The Enemy Hey Mister, backstabbin' son of a bitch You're livin' in a world that'll soon be dyin' And I know everybody knows you try to be like me But even at your best as a man, you couldn't equal half of me I am realizing that everybody's lost their simple ways And now that it's here, I see it all so clearly I've come face to face with the enemy, the enemy You, you're another shit talkin' punk to me You're a living inspiration for what I never wanna be And I see you've been blinded by what you believe And now back up and sit down, shut up and act like you need to be I am realizing that everybody's lost their simple ways And now that it's here, I see it all so clearly I've come face to face with the enemy, the enemy Come to me, come to me The enemy come to me, come to me So predicting you're the reason why I lie Simple decision took me too much time to fly Oh, checkmate I am realizing that everybody's lost their simple ways And now that it's here, I see it all so clearly I've come face to face with the enemy, the enemy Come to me The group is unsure what to make of this massive, hulking beast. But without thinking twice, they can sense that it is hostile, and they charge to meet the Demon Lord on the field of battle. "You are fools, if you think you are prepared to face me as you are. You're not even close to a threat to my power..." Nevertheless, they tried to attack. But the Demon Lord was so monstrous, so powerful, and towered over them so, that they were mostly frozen with FEAR. A few brave souls decided to attack. One of their weapons makes contact. Lord Phere takes 80hp damage. The great Demon Lord barely flinches. The blow doesn't even faze the massive beast, but another plucky Adventurer approaches, and takes another swing. Lord Phere takes 80hp damage. "HA HA HA HA HAAAA.... I SUMMON FOUL BEASTS FROM THE DEPTHS OF HELL, TO PLAY WITH YOU FOOLISH ONES!!! HAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!" The ground began to shake violently, and from beneath the earth came a horde of demonic creatures, an entire army of hellish fighters. The Demon Lord Phere just stood back and laughed, as the Adventurers set to work defending themselves against this violent mob. In the melee, some of the Adventurers were wounded. But in the confusion, they could not tell who was attacking whom... in fact, most of the damage was self-inflicted. Was it by design? Or was it accidental? Nevertheless... Lightfoot takes 25hp damage. "Hey! Cut it out!" Shrieks Lightfoot. "I'll protect you, Visorslash!" shouts someone else. Inner Stickler takes 75hp damage. "I'll protect you, BobArrgh!" shouts another. Glee takes 13hp damage. "I'll protect you, Visorslash!" shouts Inner Stickler. "Woah! What the hell is that?" he says, diving out of the path of danger. A magical orb hits Visorslash directly in the chest. Visorslash takes 100hp damage. "Yes, pathetic weaklings, yes... taste but a TINY FRACTION of my extraordinary POWER!!!" ToeJam takes 50hp damage. "I'll protect you, Inner Stickler!" shouts someone else."Yowza! Maybe I shouldn't have done that!" GuiriEnEspana takes 50hp damage. "Now, I will finish you off... come closer, that I might annihilate you!" Faced with the overpowering might of the Demon Lord, and weary from dispatching his summoned army of violent creatures, the Adventurer group orders a full retreat. But before they do, they ask one to stay behind and distract the Demon Lord, that they might escape. "You stay behind, Gadarene!" they shouted. "No, I'd rather stay with you guys if that's all right..." he said, hesitantly. "You can't seem to decide, so I'll decide for you! BWAHAHAA!!! THIS ONE, THIS ONE MUST DIE!!!" "EEEEEK!!!!" Shouted Mosier. "Why do they always pick on the new guy!?!" *CRUNCH* Mosier, not Gadarene, was slain by the Demon Lord. The rest of them escaped. The Aftermath: Upon inspection of his remains, they noticed that Mosier seemed to be dressed like an ordinary Soldier, and there was nothing sinister about him. Reluctantly, they were forced to conclude that a Good Adventurer was sent to his untimely demise. Begin "The First RETREAT" (Night One) OOC: Night One has begun. You may send in night actions. You may Askthepizzaguy any game-related questions you might have, please bold and green if you wish the response to be OOC and from the game host. Oh never mind, I didn't even read the post before the update. Three extra votes placed on Mosier by some secret power (and a couple other unadvertised extra votes, one on Mosier and one on Gadarene).

I mean, unless the traitor player has an enormous amount of vote-altering power to play around with, then that would seem a great deal of effort just to make Astral and/or Gadarene look bad. I could see it being a bit of both if Astral is scum and Gadarene not (in which case Guiri's got the target on his butt should that slippery bastard actually be town, and not me; and in which case those last couple of votes on Gadarene also need scrutiny *waves at Bob and especially lilflower*), but yeah. Anyway.

All right, Mhaye's first vote post (on Silver Jan).
OK, here's my base issue. Townies usually do not proceed like this, progressing from "this is a bad badwagon so somebody on it must be scum, let's look at all of them one by one (and see who's scummy)". It would seem a logical thing to do, but it rarely happens, I think because townies usually form their impressions more organically -- they see something scummy, they vote for it. It's scum who so often seem to do it this way instead, top-down instead of bottom-up. Quote:

Not the write-up's color, the game description/color/rules/whatever. It describes the traitor as having taken control of the King/Demon Lord, so these are clearly the traitor's own extra votes, by proxy.

Astral, the extra votes, both visible and hidden, put your concerns about vote shenanigans into a different light. Which were you responsible for, the one on Gadarene or the three on Mosier?
As for the Day attacks and protections, I'm bemused by the apparent transparency of Day protectors but not attackers and I note that 3 of the 5 victims had some sort of protection. |

#394

Ah, ok. Are you splitting the Mosier votes from the extra Gadarene vote? I'd actually been assuming that all the extra votes were the result of the "tally-affecting powers", but the traitor having extra votes does make a certain amount of sense colour-wise I guess.

The extra Mosier and extra Gadarene vote were then presumably the tally affecting power/powers. Also, with all the attacks, if we could somehow agree to coordinate them, it could effectively be a second lynch no? Although the lack of accountability in that the attackers names aren't revealed makes this a bit risky. Given that the Demon Lord definitely does lose HP, is it possible that if everyone concentrated their attacks on him, we could "kill" the Demon Lord. If we did, would that result in the loss of the extra votes for the traitor / negate some other power of the traitor? |

Do you mean discussing and then deciding on a second lynch candidate in the game thread, hoping a decent number of attackers of the right elements submit a Day action in time to attack the selected player, hoping none of the protectors choose the same target, and that scum couldn't do anything about it if the target is scum? Or did you have something else in mind?

![]() But yeah essentially that is what I meant. Any protectors who target the same person seem to be revealed, so they'd have to do their own explaining. Obviously, trying to agree on something like this is a game of mafia is like herding cats, so it's probably unworkable, but the ability to attack is interesting and potentially powerful, particularly if coordinated in some way. |

I didn't intend to suggest it was a stupid idea, I was just thinkng through what would need to happen for it to effectively become a second lynch and how feasible that would be.
A privately arranged group attack might have a little more success however, in order to get sufficient numbers to cause death, the risk of infiltration is high. |
