You 16 who didn't win this past time are still in the running.

Do me a favor? This time just send me a PM. I save all those and it makes it easier for me to just go there and make the little slips of paper with your names.

FYI: This time a guest won who had zero posts/threads, but he wasn't banned and had become a guest in March, so since I didn't have a rule against it, he's now a paid member for a year. What do y'all think? Want me to make a rule like that?

I don't think there is anything wrong with giving it to a new poster. Maybe they've been lurking for several years and your offer of a free membership is what got them to finally sign up.

Of course there is always the chance that they are a troll and will get banned soon but it's your money and if you want to give it to a new poster then I say go for it.

That how's I became a part of the boards. I WAS just a lurker until Diogenes/Boozahol the Squid PI found me and paid for a year's account. Once i had that, i HAD to start posting more.

Right before what we call "The Troubles" (sorry Ireland, I know that term belongs to y'all!) I had to ask for someone to pay my membership as well.

I apologize that I do not remember my friend's name, but I am very grateful, and this is one of many reasons D and I are doing this: we want to (sorry it's become a cliche') pay it forward.

This thread was formerly "Fourth of July Gift Subscriptions" but since Quasi has indicated this is going forward with another opportunity to win on Labor Day, I have retitled the thread.

Quasi says that all those who registered before and did not win are still eligible to win this next time around. You do not need to enter again.

Thanks for your generosity! If it's okay with you, the way we'll work it will be that I'll draw 2 more names from the hat, send you a pm with those names, then you go ahead and order the gift subs from here through PayPal.

You can then pm your winners and inform them that you are the gifter. Is that agreeable?

If anyone else wishes to do this, just let me know how many and we'll follow the above steps.

Also, a minor correction: We (D and I) will gift 3 subscriptions instead of 2.

I like the contest idea, so I would throw my name in for the heck of it. But I wouldn't want anyone to pay for me because I want the word "Member" under my name. Winning a lottery, however, would be cool.

So, for anyone wanting a name for their contest, feel free to toss in Stink Fish Pot. Who knows? Maye I'll enjoy the view from a Member's POV.
