You're referring to Biden, I take it?

Nothing was at stake for Biden.

I wish you wouldn't use me as an example in this continuing line of argument. My take on the matter is a little more nuanced than - "those gays are hung up on the word 'marriage.'" If anything, my stand-point is born of deep cynicism about the institution of marriage as a whole, no matter who wants in.

I incorrectly said you were "hung up" on the word marriage. Actually, that is what you were accused of by those who have zero tolerance for any dissent. I didn't suggest that you have any problem with gay marriage...as you made clear in the linked thread. Nonetheless, you were attacked by those who agree with you for simply seeming to suggest that gay" marriage" by any other name would be the same as straight marriage.

You don't seem to understand/agree with a crucial point here. For gay marriage advocates, generally, this is an issue of basic human rights. So of course there's some, er, impatience with dissent; it's like "dissenting" on interracial marriage or whether Jewish people should be allowed to hold public office.

But that's still framing the argument in your terms.

My point in that thread has been made many other times by many other posters on this board and practically none get jumped on. I think I got bopped in that thread through a series of badly worded posts and some gun-jumping.

To be clear - I do not suggest that "gay marriage" should be named something else in order to keep it distinct from "straight marriage."

There is no argument here. I stated that your views are the same as those doing the bopping. Your "badly worded posts" really would have represented nothing more than one toe over the line but you were attacked for it until you finally stated that both straight and gay marriage should be called marriage. Then you were attacked for taking so long to just come out and say as much from the beginning...suggesting that you actually were in favor of different terms and had to be convinced by the clubbing.

You know, I'm guessing the guy involved has a pretty good idea of what he experienced.

No no. I've given my life over to yorick now. It's just easier that way.

By the way, yorick, what am I having for supper tonight?

I'm not talking about what he experienced or how he felt. I was commenting on the reaction by other posters to his "poorly worded" posts. The posts may have been poorly worded but basically in agreement with SSM supporters.

That's all well and good, but I still don't know what's on the menu tonight.
