Longest-married couple that you've met
I haven't seen a post for this here yet, so I am wondering this:
Who was the longest-married couple that you've met? How long have they been married (or how long were they married before one spouse died)? And how old are they? One of my friends has a set of great-grandparents who are still alive. I've met this couple personally. They were originally from Italy. They were married in June of 1942. Paolo (the husband) is 88, while Filomena (the wife) is 89. Their 70th anniversary is coming up in about two weeks. They're both doing fine, although Paolo does need a cane to move around. Their oldest great-granddaughter (who is 25) is pregnant, so they will be great-great-grandparents soon. |

My grandparents are the longest married couple that I know. I'm not sure of the exact year when they were married, but I think they got married when my grandma was 19, and she's 82 now. My grandpa is 91.

Hi, everyone! I am a long time fan of this message board and finally decided to join. Anyway, my grandpa died 2 years ago just missing 100 by 3 months. He and grandma married young, so at the time of his death they had been married an incredible 79 years! Grandma is still alive and is now 97. At his funeral, she said, "I just wasn't ready for him to go yet".

That happens to be my birthday.I met a couple in 2005 who had been married 75 years. They were 95 years old and got married when they were twenty. Sadly, or maybe not sadly, they both died within a day of each other shortly after their 75th anniversary. I say not so sadly because after that long together it just seems right that they almost died at the same time. She died in her sleep the night before and he died the next morning. Sad, but also romantic in a way. Last edited by swampbear; 05-26-2012 at 06:25 PM. |

My maternal grandparents made it to somewhere past 50 years. I full expect to see my parents make it past 50 and possibly as far as 75 (they'd be really old, but most of my grandparents lived into their 80s or 90s.) Heck, they hit 40 last December.

When dad died, my parents had been married for 57 years.
I have, however, met a couple at a restaurant that was celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary. Just the two of them sitting quietly, but he had brought her a balloon. We stopped on the way out and said happy anniversary to them, then at the front desk, I told the waitress that I wanted to surprise them by paying their check. Someone had already beaten me to it. |

Man, if Grandma knew I've called her old... that should have been "74 years and 3 months". Oopsies.
MOL, she was 22 and he was 21. He died being 95, she's 98 (and a half). Last edited by Nava; 05-28-2012 at 09:20 AM. |

There was a couple that my grandfather was friends with that married before they were 20 and were married for 80 years. He was 98, she is still alive and is 97 now, I think. She was a few years younger than him. I didn't know them real well- they moved from the area to Arizona years ago.

Great story. My eldest Aunt and Uncle (I have hordes of 'em) celebrated their 60th last December, at the same time as my paren'ts 50th. Until reading this thread, I thought that was kind of impressive. |

Nanna and Grandpa married when she was 19 and Nanna passed at 93, so that was 74 years. Grandpa died about 2 years later

Thank you for the welcome!
Isn't it sweet, to feel that way after so many years? Last edited by evasgram; 05-28-2012 at 09:54 PM. Reason: This is in reply to Maggenpye. Sorry I'm still figuring out how to reply to certain posts and what not in here. |

My maternal grandparents are at 62 years and still going. They've been married longer than anyone else I've known. My paternal grandparents are at 57 years and also still going.

My gf's parents just celebrated their 50th anniversary. He told me, "We've been married fifty years; happily married twenty." He was joking.

My Great Uncle and Aunt were married over 70 years, both living to their late 90's.
No children. I think that helped.
