Anybody seen "Safety Not Guaranteed" yet?
I read about it last week and it sounded kind of interesting, but it was in limited release and not showing in my area. I see it is now, this week, so I'm thinking of going. Anybody seen it yet? If so, what did you think? Would I like it if I'm not a fan of talky art films but like good smart comedy?
(This is the one based on the real-life classified ad from the guy looking for someone to time travel with him.) |

Wow, lots of views, no responses. I guess nobody has!
If we go this weekend I'll report back.

I have - I saw it at Sundance London about a month and a half ago.
I would recommend going to see it. I found it quite funny - not so much in a laugh out loud way (though there is the odd moment which is), more in a knowing (and in some places, sad) smile sort of way. Let us know what you think - it's the first time I have ever sprung for tickets to a film festival and consequently am ahead of the viewing curve, so I don't have anyone to talk to about it (apart from my girlfriend - and we've done that subject!). |

Yep, saw it last week in NYC. It's entertaining, and very funny, and sweet in a weird way. Aubrey Plaza does a great job playing Aubrey Plaza.
The ending was kind-of a letdown. I was hoping for a little more ambiguity. |

I don't know. It depends what you wanted from your ambiguity I think.

Just one question: Is the song from Scarface in it?

I saw it yesterday and enjoyed it quite a bit. It was funny and sweet and mildly demented.
Quote:
I thought I'd seen Aubrey Plaza before, and I was right. I recently saw the off-center Damsels In Distress (twice), starring Greta Gerwig, and Plaza had a small but funny role. She was also pretty funny in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. I haven't seen her TV work. Two of the three indies I saw yesterday starred Mark Duplass (the other being Your Sister's Sister with Emily Blunt), who's now officially on my "I'm impressed!" list. I not only liked him in both movies, I knew his name sounded familiar so I looked him up. Damn! The man wrote and directed two movies I liked a lot*, Baghead and Cyrus along with his brother Jay. To bring it full circle, the 3rd indie I saw yesterday was Lola Versus, starring Greta Gerwig, an actress I like very much, even when she's in dodgy movies (like Lola Versus). I first saw and was impressed by Greta Gerwig in...Mark & Jay Duplass's Baghead. *and one I didn't, Jeff Who Lives At Home. |

Saw it tonight, and liked it a lot. A fun, quirky, geeky movie. I did not expect the ending.

Saw it Saturday night in SoCal. Not exactly what I expected, but a pleasant way to spend an hour and a half. I thought the end was left very ambiguous.
