Doper Gaming Guilds and Groups

Please feel free to post about your guild here. Please make sure to include:

- The game(s) the guild is for (e.g. World of Warcraft)
- The name of the guild
- In-game contacts or how to join
- The server your guild is on (if any)
- A link to your recruitment thread (if any)
- A brief description, if you like

You can still keep a recruiting thread in the forum. If you'd like to join a guild you see listed, please don't post in this thread - contact the person directly or refer to a recruitment thread.

Some general guidelines:

- Please only post once per guild.
- Please PM me or report a post to update information or remove defunct guilds.
- Links to offsite guild websites or forums are permitted.

Thanks to InvisibleWombat for the idea!

Game: City of Heroes/City of Villains

Guild: CECIL on Virtue hero-side, Urban Legends on Protector villain-side, and various smaller supergroups on other servers

Contacts/Join Info: Just join the CECIL global chat channel and introduce yourself. (The command is "/chanjoin CECIL".)

Server(s): We play alts across most of the servers, and have small supergroups and villaingroups in various places. The most developed bases are on Virtue (hero-side) and Protector (villain-side).

Recruitment Thread: Wanted! City of Heroes Players!

Description: Any Doper is welcome. We tend to be loose-knit and play independently most of the time, but occasionally get together to run a task force or to help out someone who's having trouble with a mission.

Clan: "Friends of Cecil"

Just apply to the clan at the clan district. Easy peasy--I don't think we're turning anyone down and the only people to know to look for us are SDMB peeps or relations. Or send me an IM to get whitelisted (I'm "Spung")

We're a simple clan with just the basics, but it is what we all make it.

Simply send a tell to either of the above for information. We are relatively small, but do endgame content and PvP with larger kinships. We have our own ventrilo server.

Any Eve Online players out there? My main is firmly with Ushra'Khan, but I have an alt that would enjoy hanging with the Dopers. I am not equipped to start a Corp myself, but would gladly join another's.

Xbox 360 SDMB Gamertag

If you want to play with Dopers, send a friend request to "aaa SDMB" (the "aaa" part is so it'll stay at the top of your offline Friends List).

How to use it:
1) Send a friend request and get accepted.
2) Hit A on the SDMB Gamertag
3) Hit right and select "View Friends".
4) Scroll up and down the list and see who's on the Gamertag and who's online and what they're playing.
5) Send invites out.

Game: EVE Online

Corporation: Core-Tech Micro Systems (CTMS)

In-game contact: Send a mail to "Jock Rockstrong" or "Teras Menac". Also, get to the Stegette system.

Description: CTMS focuses on mining and industry. We are a great group for new players who need to learn the ropes of the game and get a good head start. While the corp was not originally started by Dopers, we now make up about half of the members and could always use more new faces.

Eve Online Corporation. We have four members from the SDMB in our corp. The "Teeming Millions" chatroom is still open, a few of us make sure to be there so we can contact new SDMB members.

I am now CEO of 'The Firestone Group' Ticker: TFSG. Dopers are welcome. Core-Tech Micro Systems is basically defunct and has no Dopers in it any longer.

In Game I am Teras Menac, Captain_C is Jock Rockstrong

I'm not sure it exactly fits the definition of a guild, but anyway :

Game : eRepublik (http://www.erepublik.com/en )

Name : eDOPE

Contacts (SDMB name/ingame name if different)

Chessic Sense/Mike Phoenix
Clairobscur
Dosipede/Amphibious Rodent
Oredigger 77
Raza
tr0psn4J/Shanttu2
RandMcNally
Nicolas Bourbaki
fifty-six/ePerson.
Capnpitt

Preferably, ask for an invitation from one of the above (not me, for some reason, I seem to be unable to send one), since we get 5 gold (a significant amount for us) for each player invited. You can register directly, though.

eDopers have recently started to operate a weapon factory in Indonesia (one of the world's superpower in the game) called "Fighting Ignorants Co".

The game is a kind of geopolitical simulation. When joining, you pick a country (most people tend to pick their IRL country), and the first thing your avatar has to do is finding a job. The game is a bit slow at the beginning, since the options are limited at this point. You work, feed yourself, train for the army.. But you level up quite quickly and it has much more depths than it seems at first glance. A lot of things are happening, and though you could play by just clicking on three buttons every day, you could as well play 25 hours/day. You can try to become a mighty soldier, create a newspaper or a company, become a politician...or be involved in more arcane things like spying, diplomacy, worker's cooperatives, etc...

The social aspect of the game is very important, in my opinion. If you don't keep in touch with other players, try to stay informed about world events, join the local forums, participate in the life of your eNation, you're going to miss a lot, IMO. It's also a very international game. Hence, if you start in Brazil, for instance, expect to interact with a lot of Brazilians.

The thread that started it is here. It's a bit long and might be a bit boring too since one third third is mostly dedicated to "how to find cheap food", one third to "what company should we create" and one third to "how to operate the company". However, in practice, most of the time I spend playing is dedicated to the complicated inner workings of the eFrench government (eFrance being a small country where [way too much] active players, even newbies, get a lot of things dumped on their lap). Others, I assume, might be more inclined to follow a military career or something else (I remember a player mentioning he had joined the US national guard, for instance).

Guild: Science Based Alchemy

You can join by going to our website (link above) and filling out an application. If you have questions, you can contact Funkdoctor, Torenia, Laenae, Tazillfran, or Potroast in game.

I posted a recruitment thread here.

- Description -
<Science Based Alchemy> is a World of Warcraft guild that was started by a handful of members of the "Skeptic's Guide to the Universe" forums. We're a casual guild that does just about anything. We are new, but we have plans to create a community that is interested in critical thinking, rationalism, and skepticism.

We also are starting a blog called "The Skeptical Ready Check" which will be a blog that is primarily contributed to by guild members (any guild members can make contributions) aimed at promoting science, skepticism and critical thinking.

After we grow large enough we plan to have tons of guild events and even server-wide events that will promote critical thinking and rationalism to the gaming community.

You can still keep a recruiting thread in the forum. If you'd like to join a guild you see listed, please don't post in this thread - contact the person directly or refer to a recruitment thread.

Game: Astro Empires - Space War Game based on math formulas - I personally play with multiple spreadsheets open. Think lemonade stand with combat!

Register at http://juno.astroempires.com/?ref=J.87.

Then when it gives you a choice between starting in the current stream or being near friends, choose near friends, J34.

Server: Juno

Guild: Men_in_Tights

Contact: I am Merry in game and you can PM me once in game at http://juno.astroempires.com/profile.aspx?player=87

Recruitment: We are accepting only intelligent, literate adult players with a warped sense of humour, who are not easily shocked or offended since adult language, images, and themes are a part of our particular guild's MO. Women with an extremely twisted sense of humor are most welcome - I get lonely for other females to chat with - lots of male players.

This link provides a good general overview of the game:

This is not really a guild but the moderator invited us to post this here.

Since PokerStars is now letting anyone start their own private club, I have started one for SDMB members. The thread about it is here.

Name of club: MentalGuy's Poker Club
Club ID: 42585

Invitation code: cecilville

To join, just go to PokerStars, click on the Home Games tab and find us.

You have to be approved, but since is the only place you would find out about it, I am approving everyone.

We have both real money and play money options.

Star Wars The Old Republic has launched! One of the SDMB guilds can be found on the server "Master Zhar Lestin"
Currently there is only an Alliance-side guild called the "Burning Womp Rats" but I'm sure someone will come along with the name of the Sith side guild. There is also a thread in The Game Room with ongoing conversation about the guild and those in it.

Come join us and take part in the fight!
And May the Force be With You. Always.

Also in SWTOR on the Master Zhar Lestin server, we now have a guild for you Sith Empire types - Nineteen-twenties Death Star. So whether you're protecting the galactic republic with your lightsaber or scheming and backstabbing your way to Imperial power, there's a Doper guild for you!

The Secret World

I've created a Templar cabal, Ordo Ophidia Cecilius, that is open to Dopers looking for a little sensible chat and occasional mutual assistance. Based on experience with our City supergroups, it is likely to be mostly a casual social channel, possibly with shared conveniences when and if cabal headquarters are added. I do not presently plan on recruiting in-game, so this is the only place you'll hear about it.

You can PM me here or contact me as Btyrr in-game if you're interested in joining.

Any other Doper conspiracies out there? Dragon or Illuminati cabals, perhaps?
