Well, I didn't say I saw the point of the lie (if there is one). Just that his story sounds pretty strange and implausible.

Not sure if this is a stupid Republican idea, or just a stupid Fox News idea, but one of today's Cracked columns points out an editorial choice which is just mind-boggling in its stupidity;

Yesterday Marketplace estimated that it costs about a million bucks a day to run the House, and since this vote takes they whole day with grandstanding this crap cost the American taxpayer $32 million (giving the first one to blow off steam.) That's more than Vegas parties. Shit, they could give some poor deserving rich people a bigger tax break with that money.

4 things were either directly ripped off or altered, either way it's pretty obvious that she read that article and just re-wrote it (especially obvious considering none of her pranks are at all "spicy" for a relationship):

Glued coin
Gummy worm apple
Putting tape over appliances to make them useless
food coloring in foods

Mitt's sworn testimony contradicts his election filing

In his federal disclosure form filed as part of his presidential bid Mitt said, "Mr. Romney retired from Bain Capital on February 11, 1999 to head the Salt Lake Organizing Committee. " . . .

Yet,

when Romney was running for governor of Massachusetts and trying to establish his residency, his sworn testimony was that he sat on the board of the LifeLike Co., a dollmaker that was a Bain investment during the period, remained on the board of the Staples Corporation and Marriott International, and also noted that he regularly traveled back to Massachusetts on business trips.

Doesn't it seem as if the man has an extremely expedient view of what the truth is and what his opinions should be depending on the circumstances?

I’m not sure that this can be hung around the neck of the whole Republican party but it is stupid, and a bit strange. In short, the person selected in the primary to run for the seat in the state senate for suburban Cedar Rapids has withdrawn from the election. She says she is pulling out because she has joined an alternative government as the appointed US Senator for the Republic of Iowa – an outfit distinct from the State of Iowa and the United States. Apparently it is this bunch’s position that there has been no legitimate government at any level since 1871.

The remarkable thing is that the ex-candidate was the GOP’s (read Tea Party’s) darling and the great hope to knock out the incumbent , a former TV personality, college professor, smart person and Godless liberal. So, Godless liberals-1, Sovereign Citizen fruit cakes - 0. Likewise, Republican candidate for Senate District 34 - 0.

Seanbaby writes for Cracked? Cool!

I think he may be overreacting. Sounds like Ms. Milt got an assignment she hated and decided to totally troll it. Or she's really kooky. Hard to say.

And that'll help how?

I mean, yes, obviously all citizens of libertarian ideals should simply refuse to participate in the actual government, instead making up fantasy governments while still paying taxes to the real one! They can pay taxes to both! Or hate the one that actually does anything while loving the one that makes no actual demands on them.

The totally totally fake one. Of course a home-schooler would think this brilliant.

I mean, because yes, it is. It's brilliant and subtile, and the whole corrupt Washington system will collapse because everyone is playing pretend government in their game rooms. :I don't have a smiley that captures the expression I really want to give:

No, it doesn't make sense for them. Yes, it's (temporarily) great for the rest of us if they work out their libertarian obsessions in roleplay, but it's just denial, and gets them what exactly?

Can we just go ahead and add "Republican voters chose Mitt Romney to be their nominee" to this thread?

I'm glad to see him getting hammered by Obama on his corporate sleeziness/possible felony.

Romney says that he's not releasing his tax returns because the information in them will make him look bad.

I'm reminded of Jim Carrey in "Liar Liar" trying to win a divorce hearing while magically compelled to tell the truth.

"Objection!"
"On what grounds?"
"It's incredibly damaging to my case!"
"Overruled."
"Good call!"

If Romney loses the election, I wonder if he'll retroactively suspend his campaign back to February. He could probably save a fortune; wouldn't have to pay any staff, that sort of thing. He could channel all the contributions to RomneyPAC. And best of all, since he wasn't a candidate, all these allegations about outsourcing would never have happened and he'd then be a viable candidate for 2016.

He'd be a fool not to do it.

I'm thinking that if people accept retroactive retirement as an excuse for whatever it was that Bain did in '99–'02 that was so bad, he's got a perfect excuse for passing Romneycare as Governor of Massachusetts. As a Massachusetts resident, I can certainly testify that he didn't seem to be doing any actual governing from '04 on. Can someone retroactively provide us with a Governor who wasn't a complete douchebag for the last two years of the Romney administration?

Sheldon Adelson, the Vegas casino magnate who's donated tens of millions to the Romney and Gingrich campaigns, is now in danger of losing his casino operator's license.

Apparently, the Nevada State Gaming Commission frowns on business deals with the Chinese mafia.

You think far too small:
  • Social Security and Medicare? Never happened.
  • Pure Food & Drug Act? Never heard of it.
  • 40-hour work week? Poof! It's gone.
And the list keeps going, and going, and going. It's enough to make a top-hatted capitalist lightheaded.

Today's clear winner is our very own Clothahump. In a valiant and continuing effort to undermine the position of anyone who might possibly overestimate his intelligence, he fails to notice an ongoing thread on this exact quote, but he commits the exact same stupid error in massively misrepresenting the quote and taking it completely out of context.

Congrats, Clothy, your ability to make stupid, uninformed, and misleading comments has been demonstrated yet again.

I can't believe this "retroactively retired" nonsense is actually happening.

Sure, Romney is an inveterate liar, but if you're going to tell such a stupid, hamfisted lie about your tenure at Bain, a lie prompted by the fact that your most significant life experience has turned out to be a liability to your political career (he previously told the same lie during his successful campaign for Mass. governor), then you really ought to have a better explanation than "I was CEO, chairman, president, and sole shareholder...but I wasn't really in control of the company." Really, asshole?

Of course, he can always count on his butt-buddies in the media to clumsily attempt to cover for him. If Politifact and their Lie of the Year didn't prove that our political media is broken and that the "fact check" outfits are in fact propagandistic scams meant to impart a sheen of truth and credibility to baldly partisan bullshit, then Glenn Kessler of Fact-Chuck standing up for Romney by claiming that the SEC filings were "boilerplate" and somehow less credible because the SEC source who brought the filings to the attention of the Boston Globe is a Democrat, should be the nail in the coffin. Shameless hacks all.

Don't you know that it takes less than 3 seconds of direct contact with a Democrat for his or her Librul Reality-Distortion Field to completely scramble up the contents of a Republican's legally-mandated and oath-sworn disclosure forms?

Well I would have, except I can't find it on youtube. Here is an article on AZcentral about it, but it doesn't really capture the insanity.

Reading through the Fark thread might be better.

The first Q&A question from the reporters was "Do you really expect anyone to believe this?" Another one asked why he's investigating stuff like this when he apparently didn't investigate 500 cases of child abuse in the county.

Did any reporter ask them how they explain the birth announcement in the local paper shortly after the President was born?

George W. Bush Institute Launches Book On Economic Growth

Well, at least the title of the book ("The 4 Percent Solution") shows Bush's ability to do more with less, getting by on just a bit more than half of Sherlock Holmes' standard ration.

The thought is that when they start paying attention to the campaign later in the year, and Obama and the Democrats keep talking about Bain, Romney and Bain, that these people will think back to the Batman movie, "Oh, yeah, I know who that is."

How can the Republicans hope to win out over (what they think are) Democrats smart enough to plant a foreigner in America as a baby knowing that someday he would become POTUS?

And now they think Democrats are smart enough to start this by having a guy create a comic book character in 1993 with a name that sounds like their POTUS nominee?

How can they possibly think that Democrats are idiots, but they are smart enough and prescient enough to do things with 20 or 40 or 50 years that plant seeds to be harvested decades down the road?
