Going to see Dewey Cox tonight!

Yeah, I know he's dead but apparently someone had to idea to do a séance to bring him back to play a show at The Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles tonight.

I heard a rumor that John C. Reilly, the actor who played Dewey Cox in the movie, might be there. It would be cool to see the real Dewey Cox and the actor who played Dewey Cox in the same room together, but I don't know if that's going to happen.

Hope I don't get halved!

I assume I am being whooshed somehow. Walk Hard was a fictional movie and John C. Reilly's character never existed.

Does this mean that someone is doing live performance as Dewey Cox, and they storyline that gets him onstage is that he is being invoked via seance?

Just wanted to mention that of all the people I know IRL, I'm the only person who finds this movie even remotely funny… and I think it's one of the best comedies I've ever seen. There are multiple scenes and lines that crack me right the fuck up, but everyone else I've ever talked to says "meh".

I missed the show, but in Dewey's honor, I'm going to have some Cox sausages for breakfast. They're farm-fresh and hickory smoked right there on the farm, in the big Cox smoker.

Well, last night was . . . awesome.

We did see John C. Reilly at the club before the show and we saw him afterward, but he must have stepped out during Dewey's set because we didn't see him in the audience.



L.A. musician Mike Andrews was doing a residency at this club, The Bootleg Theater, playing every Wednesday in August. Each week he would book friends of his as special guests. Apparently he an Dewey are friends and that's how this all came about (Mike Andrews and his band served as Dewey's backing band for this performance).

No séance was necessary. Dewey explained:

I don't know if any of you know what it feels like to have your autobiography bomb, but it doesn't feel good.
So, I told them "you're on your own for the video release." I bought me a trailer out on the Salton Sea, and that's where I've been livin' ever since. But the butter has finally run out. So when this fine young gentleman here offered me the chance to do a show, he said he would pay me $10 per song, I decided it was time to come back.

They opened with an early rock n roll sounding song that I had never heard- it's not from the movie, I don't know if it was a cover or not. Next, they played

Dewey left through the crowd as the band played him off. Then he came back for an encore

All in all, a pretty magical evening.

The movie's hilarious, and the soundtrack is pretty damn good. I'm rather fond of "Guilty as Charged."

Damn. Every once in a while you hear about truly awesome and unforgettable events, and you kick yourself for not being able to go or not going. This is one of those for me. I love that move and that soundtrack, and can sing several of the songs from memory. UGH!
