Lots of board errors lately

I've been getting loads of 400- Bad Request pages lately. Anyone else, or just me?

It's been running very slow for me for a few days. Often it's like someone poured molasses into the system.

I've been getting a lot of that too, for the last several weeks. I don't think I've noticed that frequency of problems before that. The error I get is "The connection has been reset by the server", or alternatively, it just takes a loooooooooooooong time for the server to respond and serve the page.

I remarked on this a few weeks ago, right here in ATMB, at a time when several others were posting OP's with similar complaints. One of the admins (TubaDiva I think?) remarked something to the effect that it's just how it's always been. I didn't believe that, but I chose to STFU about it at the time.

ETA: I also recall a remark someone made, to the effect that the SDMB servers are due for a hamster upgrade.

I'll second that (fourth it?). Tends to hang and give lots of "connection reset" messages recently.

It runs real slow then suddenly snap back. It's doing this off and on. At first I thought it might be our Internet connection, but this is the only site that it happens.

I started that thread about this same issue a few weeks ago or so. It seems that the board is actually alive. It slows down and drags, we complain about it, it stops for awhile, then starts doing it again. Its like taking a car to a mechanic when you know there's a problem but you can't reproduce the problem when the mechanic is present...and then the problem manifests itself on your way home from the mechanic.

I had several timeout errors and some slowness yesterday (Saturday), but it cleared up before I could complain about it. Yes, it was just this board, not my system.

It's necessary to post such complaints from time to time. This reminds the Admins to feed the hamsters.

I thought they switched to capybaras a while back, or was that my imagination?

Yep, "server reset" errors here, too. It's just the last two days - before that, it was much better than normal.

Yep, tonight about 10PM EDT. Couldn't even access the SD home page. Down perhaps half an hour or more. Frustrating.

Couldn't access the board for the last 5 minutes, after considerable slowdowns. Ping works OK.

It's been down quite a bit for me this afternoon. A few times when it's been down, I confirmed that it wasn't on my end using http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/, which found it down as well. (No surprise, given the other responses in this thread, but one extra data point.)

I was gonna say the same, but couldn't reply for over ten minutes. Couldn't even get the Home Page of SD.

Lemme see what I can find out. Last time this happened the building that houses the server farm was on fire.

If I remember correctly the source of the fire was friction from their hamster wheel.

It was a pretty busy day but they were keeping up when suddenly 2 search requests in a row. Dang thing burst into flames, hamsters barely got out.

The board's behaving more erratically than shoehorn butterhorse. C'mon what's the deal?

No, that was just Canadjun misunderstanding (or wishful thinking). Capybaras are bigger, eat more, and thus even more expensive to operate. Furthermore, they can only function when immersed in a bath of liquid helium, lest they overheat and set the server room on fire.

Oh wait. That already happened once. That's why they went back to hamsters.

Had a good night's sleep, got up, it's almost 10am here ... and User CP still will not work. Just an error message comes up.

Okay, now this is getting really annoying. On top of no access to User CP, now the main Straight Dope page has gone all wonky, although I can still read it. And not all the icons on the Bard page will appear such as Insert Link, Go to First Unread Post or some of the smilies.

Again, it's only with this website that it's occurring, and it's the same on IE and Firefox.
