Looks like I'm getting married

We just received approval from the US Government for me to marry American fiancee. It took a faceless bureaucrat a mere seven months to rubber stamp everything. I think we have ninety days to tie the knot.

Wish me luck!

Congrats!

Upon issuance of the K1 fiance visa you have 6 months to enter the US. You then have 90 days from when the foreign fiance enters the US on the K1 visa to get married.

(applause) Wishing you and your spouse-to-be all the best! Just keep in mind that the wedding is only one day (and if you finish that day married, you've succeeded at the part of the day that matters), and the important part is the life together you're embarking on.

Hearty congratulations to you both!

Sorry you had to wait so long, but that's only going to make it all the sweeter and you'll go through life together knowing you worked hard to be together. I think it's awesome!

Good Luck!

Bah, that's a short engagement compared to how long you'll be married. Congratulations, and welcome!

Why did you need government approval to get married?

Probably not to get married per se, but to join her in the US for marriage purposes.

I'm British. I've already written to the Queen, who sent round a footman to say it was OK. I also had to get the go ahead from some faceless bureaucrat somewhere in Vermont.

Ah, a marriage. I didn't know the true meaning of happiness until the day after my wedding. But by then it was too late.

For some reason, the title of this thread makes me think of the guys on King of the Hill standing around, drinking beer, and then someone nonchalantly makes a comment. "Looks like I'm gettin' married." "Yup." "Yup." "Mmm-hmm."

Best wishes to both of you, Tapioca Dextrin! My husband is also British (a Brummie) and we had plenty of hoops to jump through before he took the plunge and moved to the U S of A. Of course, that was 15+ years ago and a LOT has changed since then.

We had a loooong long-distance relationship, lasting about 10 years or so. As it got seriouser and seriouser, I did a lot of research and phoned up the INS ("Immigration and Naturalization Service" -- the precursor to ICE) with all sort of "what ifs." Anonymously, of course, with each situation being "my reality" until we decided the best course of action.

In the end, since he had an open-ended B1-B2 Visa, he just got on an airplane, flew to LAX, and two weeks later we eloped to Las Vegas. Totally on the spur of the moment, totally unplanned. That's our story and we're sticking to it!
It was easy enough to convert his work visa back then. These days you can't do that, and Brits on holiday fly on a "visa waiver."

Congratulations on your pending nuptuals!

And then Bob's your uncle! Congrats!
Does the LDR keep you from wanting a far-flung honeymoon?

Now all I have to do is wait for some faceless bureaucrat in Angola to process my work visa. It'll all be worth it, though.
