How much do you pay for a pair of jeans?

I was reading the caption of a fashion photo, and Heidi Klum's jeans cost $190. "Who the hell pays almost $200 for a pair of jeans?" sez I.

You can answer that question for me, if you'd care to.

I usually buy my jeans second-hand at the local Goodwill because my jobs the last few years wreck jeans rather quickly and I'm not paying more than a couple bucks for a garment that won't last more than a few weeks to a couple months.

Get mine at Kohl's when they're on sale, Target when they're on sale, WalMart when they're on sale (there's a theme here). I haven't paid more than $25 for jeans in years. And when I say years I mean over 25 years.

GAP jeans are my favorite, usually between $50-$70.

I'm not going to knock people who choose to spend more though. Jeans are a staple in most wardrobes, and it can be really tough to find jeans that fit well and flatter your figure. Sometimes the expensive designer brands really are better.

I think jeans are one of the best values you can find at Goodwill. For about seven bucks, you can find a great pair. The only drawback is, you might have to sort through hundreds of others to find them!

The most I’ve ever paid for a pair of jeans is $75. I still have that pair, plus a pair that cost around $30…the rest are Goodwill.

I usually manage to find jeans at myself at Goodwill for less than $5. My two favorite pairs of Gap jeans were purchased at Goodwill. Once in a while I will get a pair from Old Navy when they are on sale for $15 or less.

This exactly. I rarely buy anything that's not on sale anyway, and even some very expensive clothes that I have were purchased at a deep discount. Usually I pay less than $20 for jeans.

I wear jeans a lot because I have a lot of trouble finding slacks in my size. I seem to be right on the cusp of what stores will stock (although that's a whole other rant). I can usually find jeans in my size though. In the past I usually just went to Penney's and stocked up on their $20 Arizona jeans. However with their new pricing scheme and reduced inventory, I'm now having trouble finding jeans in my size and will probably have to resort to Levis at $40-50 a pop.

This site has them on sale at the moment, but when I bought them they were $229 I think. Mind you, I'm in Canada and imports are always more expensive here than in the US.

I chose "other", because generally I try to buy jeans that are less than $50, but sometimes I just get sick of the crappy quality and splurge ($50-$100) on a better pair which then ends up lasting me longer. The last pair of jeans I bought on sale at Old Navy for $20 started falling apart within six months, and they stretch out of shape really easily.

I'd chose based on a $30 estimation, but I usually buy everything on sale so I'd say in reality I usually spend under $25. I don't like to pay full price for jeans, and I'm not above Goodwill either.

I pay around $100 - $150, but I generally buy one pair of jeans every year or two. I can be a tough fit- I'm slim with full hips and a long torso. I don't have the time or patience to spend all day going from store to store trying on random pairs of jeans. It's worth my money to be able to walk into a store, get good advice from someone who knows their product line inside and out, try on one or two pairs and walk out ten minutes later with a pair of jeans that fits perfectly.

There's a very well-known (among the hip crowd) custom made-to-order jeans store here in Nashville called Imogene and Willie and I have always wanted to buy a pair of jeans there, but I don't because each pair costs $240-$375. I'd be too worried about losing or gaining weight and not being able to wear them for the rest of my life which is the only way paying that much would start to make sense.

I can get a new pair of Levi's, Lee's etc for somewhere between US$25 and $30. Real ones in a department store, not fake knock-offs. We're talking the basic jeans style, which is what I wear, and not the latest fashion edition.

Several years ago there was a clearance sale on the Sears web site and they had carpenter jeans for $12. I bought 30, and I'm set for life in the jeans department (unless at some point I gain 50+ lbs. which is highly unlikely).

I paid $50 for Polo jeans back 20 or so years ago and they were without question the best jeans I ever owned, and I'm definately a jeans guy. There's easily 15 or so pair in the closet now. I also just paid $50 for a month of free jeans passes (x3) at work in a United Way campaign. I like jeans.

Normally, I'll get a pair of Levi 550 for about $20 - 25.

Now my wife and M-I-L (2 separate people!!!) buy those Bling Jeans and there's no earthly telling what they pay for those.

Is the question the most I am willing to pay, or how much I pay on average? I voted based on the latter. Normally around $150 or so, but sometimes over $200, and sometimes as little as maybe $40 (I have a couple of pair of Levi 501s, but I've had them for years so I don't remember what they cost). I wear jeans a lot, so I'm more than happy to pay whatever it costs for a pair that I like and fits well.

Around $25-ish, BUT I'm pretty good at finding sales and coupons to get something that usually sells for higher. Gap jeans fit me best, and they're usually around $50. Sometimes Dillard's will have a ridiculous after-Christmas sale, and you can get $100+ pairs for around $20.

I'm sad to say that IME, the more expensive ones really do look and wear better.

I don't wear jeans any more. Mostly I wear skirts and dresses. I got tired of hemming up pants. Even if I buy the petite size, they are long enough for someone who has legs about half a foot longer than mine. Jeans are particularly hard to hem, what with the flat felled seams that are on most of them. With skirts and dresses, I don't really worry about where the hemline goes...as long as it doesn't actually drag on the ground, I'm good.

I used to live in jeans until I was about 30 or so, and then every time I looked at buying a pair, I thought about hemming them.

Most of my jeans are priced in the $50-75 range, but I buy them on sale and pay less than that. My most "expensive" pair is a pair of Lucky jeans with an $88 MSRP than I bought for $35 at Nordstrom Rack. The most I've actually spent is probably around $50.

Levi's only for me. As for over $100, any clothes that cost that much better be tailored or keep me from freezing outside in the cold.

My sense of what a decent prices for clothes is was set at EJ Korvettes about 45 years ago.

I have been wearing the Gap "1969 long and lean" jeans for years now and the ones I get (a dark wash always) are $70 plus shipping. I have to get the x-long length (hence my choice of these jeans). I try to buy when I get a gift card or there is a sale.

I have probably 5 pairs of them right now in varying states of wear, making them different shades. I always try to have 2 that are DARK as I like a good dark wash.

I could probably afford to spend more on jeans now that I have been in the corporate world for a few years now and cannot wear jeans, and therefore only wear them on weekends, so I have been wearing them out extremely slowly compared to before. I used to have to buy a few pairs a year but I can't remember now the last time I bought any.

But those Gap ones fit me so well I haven't had much incentive to look elsewhere - I literally just go online and order up a "fresh pair" when I need one. If they change the style or stop selling them, that is probably when I will find something else. I used to wear Limited jeans and Express jeans, but either I got taller or they changed the fit, and they were not long enough anymore. Then I found out that Gap sells 36" online.

I live in jeans during long pants weather. Usually, I go to the Lane Bryant outlet and catch them on sale for under $40. Sometimes, I'll get lucky and find them at Goodwill or another thrift shop for ~$7.

I winced a bit recently when I forked over $120 for a pair of jeans, but they fit perfectly and since then I've bought another two pair of the same in different washes. I also have some great Goodwill jeans that I really love. I admire people who track sales but I just don't have the time or energy for doing that.

Levis RRP is around $120 here ($130 for 501s). Understandable half a decade ago when our dollar was buying 58c US, harder to stomach now that $1AU buys $1.04US

Another skirts only person here. I'm very skinny with no butt and it's hard to find pants that fit right and don't look stupid, so I don't. With skirts, you can ballpark a length and get a drawstring or elastic waistband without looking too dumb.

The last pair of jeans I bought, however, was 2 years ago from Express. I think they were around $80.

I only wear Levi's 515 jeans. They always fit me just right. If I'm lucky I'll find my size for used blue ones on eBay, they're usually around $20. For work I have to wear black jeans that aren't worn or faded; I buy them new on the Levi's website for around $50 a pair. I look up coupon codes to find free shipping, or buy enough pairs that the shipping is free when they offer it.

In my life, my size has fluctuated too much to ever justify buying expensive jeans. Once I bought a $50 pair.. I still have them just in case I lose 20 pounds, but I'm not hopeful. I don't buy jeans often, but when I do, they're cheap ones.
