n what is certainly one of the most mind-boggling-but-sort-of-logical marketing campaigns we've ever seen, The Hobbit has teamed up with Denny's to bring you Radagast's Red Velvet Pancake Puppies, Bilbo's Berry Smoothie, Gandalf's Gobble Melt, "The Ring" Burger, and Frodo's Pot Roast.

Yes, Denny's is serving a heart-attack-inducing rendition of Tolkien's Second Breakfast. And we're not sure what the heck "Lonely Mountain Treasure" is, but we're pretty sure it goes well with a hit of pipeweed

I'll admit, I had a good chuckle from this.

On one hand, it's such a cheesy and sell-out disrespectful cash-grab that it's almost not to be believed. And on the other hand, it's so delightfully smarmy and inappropriate that it's hard to not approve wholeheartedly.

I'm going in a different direction, and assuming that Second Breakfast at Denny's is an appropriate follow-on to Breakfast at Tiffany's (especially when breakfast at Tiffany's is basically a donut and a cup of coffee). So, to the tune of Moon River:

I had brunch at Denny's today. I started out with the Red Velvet Pancake Puppies (very good) and ordered the Build-Your-Own HobbitSlam with fried eggs, Seedcake French Toast, grits, and turkey bacon. The seedcake French Toast was good (it's lemon poppyseed cake), but a little too sweet for my tastes. I should not have ordered turkey bacon. Why did I do that? Eggs were good, grits pretty mediocare (the again it's pretty much what you'd expect of Denny's. I also had the Bilbo's Berry Smoothie, which was good.

I had the Shire Sausage skillet. I turned it into three meals cuz it was so huge (I was about to split it four meals, but got silly at the end and gobbled it up for third breakfast).

I really wanted those promo cards and silly me thought I would get all 12 cards for one entree. That would not make Dennys any money so of course it was just two cards per entree.

BTW, how much of Tolkien's heirs get this profit?

I got the Hobbit Hole Breakfast today. It was quite good. I'm actually a little sad that it will not last forever. Then again, how many times do I go to Denny's anyway? Plus it's a heart attack on a plate. But soooooo good.
