Cats are spamming us now.

Several spam threads today have featured titles such as:ghghdfdfrrrsdeavedgdgd.

Proof it's cats:

Only a cat would post such a thing ... maybe we should set out some cardboard boxes and try and trap a few ...

I can usually buy mine off with some 'nip, and either a little canned food, or some Greenies for cats.

Don't worry about the cats; five minutes of paying attention followed by 20 hours of nap.

You know, I wasn't sure how to answer this... so I asked someone for advice.

"Murr-eeew...?"
"put-put-purr..."

This being the Dope, I feel obligated to provide a link to pawSense software.
Quote:
PawSense constantly monitors keyboard activity. PawSense analyzes keypress timings and combinations to distinguish cat typing from human typing. PawSense recognizes a cat on the keyboard within one or two pawsteps

If it didn't cost 20 bucks, I'd install it for fun.

The time and annoyance that software would have saved me in the past! I've often been driven to the point of madness trying to figure out what the hell my cat did to the computer. It's as if he has the soul of a fiendish hacker!

1] Open can of tuna
2] Threaten to give to dog

That should fix the problem ...

As the grandmother of a precocious just-turned 2 year old, I can attest that they, too, have the souls of fiendish hackers. I am still trying to restore my smart phone to full functionality after the aforesaid toddler pilfered it from my purse on Christmas.

A two-year-old would do so inadvertently ... cats do so with pure malice aforethought ... there's only so much cat pee a keyboard can withstand ...

I'm not so worried about my cats spamming as I am about them discovering 1-click amazon ordering. OTOH, that could explain this.

What better way to get a giant cardboard box to play in?

Why didn't I think of that? After all, you can't just order a big empty box from Amazon.

I once had a cat rename a file on my desktop something in the vein of the above ghghdfdfrrrsdeavedgdgd, except much longer. Much worse was when one (somehow) managed to delete a folder filled with hundreds of files from my desktop without sending it to the recycling bin. I had to try 3 shareware undelete programs before I found one that could recover all the files.

It took four cans of tuna ... but I got one of my cats to admit this thread has gone viral on the caternet ... I hope the SDMB IT gurus have robust catnip filters in place ... apparently there's world-wide feline animosity forming ... us teeming millions need to secure our keyboards for the next few days ...

I've tried, but the moderators don't accept "My cat did it" anymore ...
