Cover Songs you'd like to hear

I'd pay cash money to hear Elton John sing "I Kissed a Girl" (orig. by Jill Sobule).

I'd pay in first-born children to hear Fred Durst cover Ben Folds's "Rockin' the Suburbs".
Quote:
Y'all don't know what it's like
Being male, middle-class and white
It gets me real pissed off
and it makes me wanna say fuck
:: snicker ::

Ah, he still probably wouldn't get it.

Nick Cave singing 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life' (Monty Python's Life of Brian, crucifixion scene). But he *did* do the Beatles' 'Let It Be', and he did it well, so maybe that's not too far out of his reach. Maybe something by Tori Amos...

Speaking of Ben Folds, I want him to cover "Prelude/Angry Young Man" by Billy Joel. Billy and Ben are frickin' virtuosos at rock'n' roll piano.

I hate her, but I'd like to hear Reba MacEntire cover some old BeeGees songs like "To Love Somebody" and "I Started A Joke". I've always though her voice and Barry Gibb's had a similar quality.

Chris Whitley covering anything by Skip Spence especially "Books Of Moses" or "All Come To Meet Her".

Spacehog covering "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" by Slade.

Wilco doing Billy Joe Shaver songs.

The White Stripes covering "Circle Sky" by the Monkees.

Beck covering "Alabama Song".

The "DK Kennedys" (Biafra-less reunion of Dead Kennedys) cover Jello Biafra/Mojo Nixon's "Buy My Snake Oil".

"And if that still doesn't work, I've got another idea.
Give in! Ride the punk nostalgia wave for what it's worth.
Recycle the name of my old band for endless reunion tours.
Singin' all those hits from the good old days 'bout how bad the good old days were!"

I dunno. I've heard Ozzy's version of "Staying Alive" and I wasn't impressed.

I'd like to see Nine Inch Nails cover "Horse With No Name" and instantly (with no lyrics changes) make it sound like a song about heroin...

Then I'd like to see Syd Barrett cover any random NIN song and turn "I want to fuck you like an animal" into a whimsical expression of delight. (Hell, I'd like to see Syd Barrett out in public at all...)

I'd like to see Tom Waits cover "Maxwell's Silver Hammer," just because it would be cool.

I'd like to force Billy Bragg to cover "Capitalism" (the Oingo Boingo song), but that would probably take an infantry division.

I'll go along with Why a Duck -- Britney could do worse than to give an all-Liz Phair concert. Besides "Flower," it would be fun to hear "Fuck and Run" and "Chopsticks"...

How about Elton John doing "Kiss Off?"

U2 could do a killer "Beat On The Brat" if they really wanted to.

And I'd love to see what Yes, circa 1984, would do with "Bitchin' Camaro."

KXPX did a great cover of "The KKK Took My Baby Away," and hearing Belinda Carlisle and the Go-Go's sing "I Wanna Be Sedated" was great.

If Joey were still around, I'd like to see The Ramones do several tracks from God Bless the Go-Go's, even if they'd have to change the words to "Unforgiven" and "Throw Me a Curve" slightly to allow for gender.

Did you ever hear his cover of "Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho (It's off to work we go)" from the Stay Awake compilation? Now that's a cover song.

That and "I Don't Wanna Grow Up" were the ones I was thinking of -- yes.

Actually, Tom Waits should do a whole covers album -- practically any collection of random songs would be cool if Tom did them. (Imagine his "Oops, I Did It Again"!)

For sheer campiness value, nothing beats William Shatner doing "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds." Yes, it does exist. It's actually on whole album of Beatles covers by the cast of Star Trek. The name of the album escapes me at the moment.

Any boy oh boy, can that man NOT sing!

I'd love to hear Garbage's "I'm Only Happy when It Rains" done as a smoky torch song. (Neko Case could do it, but then someone else would have to play piano.)

Sarah Brightman singing "Diamonds are Forever", aor Nina Gordon singing Vitamin C's "Smile."

Or the London Philharmonic performing any number of TV show theme songs.

Yeah, I don't have any taste. Sue me.

Lewis Farakhan be the narrator on Schoenberg's "A Survivor from Warsaw"

Orrin Hatch do "Hypnotize" by Biggie Smalls.

The Normon Tabernacle Choir sing "Joy To the World"--the Three Dog Night version.

Janet Jackson try to sing "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" with that small voice of hers.

Ever since I first heard Garbage's interpolation of "Don't Worry Baby" into the "Push it" lyrics, I've really thought that they could do a nice job with Dee-Lite's "Groove is in the Heart".

I would really love to hear The Aquabats cover NIN's "Herecy", or for them to cover just about anything else from "The Downward Spiral" -- "Ruiner" would be nice.

Marilyn Manson covering "Little Girls", by Oingo Boingo -- just imagine the video.

You know, for months I have contemplated the cosmic beauty of:

Clutch covering Cake's "The Distance"
Cake covering Clutch's "Escape from the Prison Planet"

It'll never happen in a billion years. But, ahhhh!!!!

1987-era Grateful Dead doing Stevie Ray Vaughan's version of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" would have worked very, very well.

Until you've heard Mae West do "Shake It Up, Baby," you haven't heard a great cover.

For those you who live in Dallas, Texas, and frequent Deep Ellum, I'm sure you know who Girl is.

The other day, I heard the perfect song for them to cover: Killer Pussy's "Teenage Enema Nurses in Bondage."

Somehow I could really see Judy getting into that...

I do this with a friend of mine, all the time. We make up amazing cover combos.

The funniest ones so far are Ozzy singing November Rain, with Lemmy as backing vocals.

[Ozzy] When I look into your eey-eeh-eeeyes, I can seey-eeey a love restray-nd...[
[Lemmy] AAAAAAAHHHHH, GHAAAAAAAAA, HAAAAAAA!!!

Another potentially funny one is Slayer covering My Endless Love, as performed by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross.

All the other cool ones I'd suggest have already been done by Tori Amos.
