Changing the default endnote font size in Word

I'm writing a paper that is heavily end-noted. Word defaults to single space, 10 point font, Times New Roman for footnotes and end notes. I need to change all of that.

I've figured out how to change the default font (highlight the text, click on format->font->default). This would seem to be the way to change the font size also, but it does not work this way. Every footnote I write is still in 10 point font. I also cannot figure out how to get the double spacing to stick. I can double space a section by highlighting it, but the next section I will write will revert back to single spacing.

I'm using Word 2000, Win XP. If you can help, I'd really appreciate it.
