Cellular modem help

After getting my wireless network, I've decided to go all the way to cellular modem capability.

I have access to the following phones:

A Motorola StarTac
An Ericsson A1228di

I'm on the Cingular network, should that influence what equipment I need.

And as far as laptops go, I want to use the phone on the following equipment:

A HP laptop
A PowerBook
A Newton PDA

I have only a vague idea of what I need. I know I need some sort of cable to connect the phone to the laptop. I would prefer to directly connect the phone to the serial port so I don't have to buy a seperate modem card. I also know I need a CCL file to tell the computer how to use the phone. That's all I know.

So, how am I going to doing this?
