Wally's death a hoax?

Hi all, I'm a long-time lurker who just took the plunge and registered here. So from reading this thread- http://www.livejournal.com/community...ous/2277.html- it seems likely that the poster claiming to be Wally never actually died. Could a moderator substantiate this? And if it's true, why hasn't there been an official announcement about it?
