Christmas shoes?

Someone called where I work yesterday, saying she'd been in my department and had forgotten a bag that contained "pink Converse kids' tennis shoes". I looked everywhere lost items might be. No luck.

When I told her this, she said, "Oh, they weren't from your store; they were from Sport Chalet." Well, a Sport Chalet bag would be a sore thumb around here, but I checked again just in case. Still no luck.

"Do you have the receipt?"

"It was in the bag."

"Oh dear. Well, sorry; have a merry Christmas anyway."

She also told me she'd called every place else she'd been that day, and we were the last option, because we were her last stop. (We abut with the parking garage, so I can see that.) My co-worker says I shouldn't feel bad, because it's not our responsibility.

Which is true, but I feel bad anyway, because it is SUCH a pain in the ass to shop for kids' shoes. You have to try on dozens of pairs before you can settle on a pair that fits, that you like, that the kid likes, and that you can afford. And because of one careless moment, some little girl (I assume it's a girl) won't have her pink tennies that she was probably all excited about.

I wonder if they ended up in the charity bin? That would be a nice glurgey ending.
